Why I don't Play PvP Anymore, and Other Musings

Ok I’ve re-read it.

I see the humour in it but I also see it as more of a rant on behaviours than anything.

But it’s probably:

Mea culpa mea culpa mea maxima culpa…
I should read a threat before I emote it…

Wanna some :cheese: to your :wine_glass:?

Which point did we miss? Your rant is no different than the complaints it seeks to bring to light. So you buttered your toast instead of using jam… :man_shrugging:

:joy: :joy: :joy:

And this is why i dont PvP on officials either. I do so privately though.

Epic post.

Thank you sir.

Nice to see people who can laugh at absurdity. I prefaced the whole post with those things I knew would happen.

The self-serious would not get it
The easily offended would be
And, although I did point it out, there are those on this forum who have never have a single kind word for this game, or for Funcom in general. I expected them to comment, although none really did. There are people whose sole contribution to the forum is a series of dislikes on posts, no matter the topic.

Also,

This was neither ranting nor whining. I had a blast putting in together. For those things, see just about any thread on changes to the game.

EDIT:

I would like to put this a little clearer. The point of this post was to poke fun and laugh at the easily foreseeable swings from the gaming community.

This is not limited to Conan. It does not matter.

It is the classic, “Oh man, you what I asked and I don’t like it. Take it back”, mentality that is inherent with any group of players.

Feel free to laugh, because we’ve all done it.

That’s all you had to say from the beginning.

Keep in mind that a large portion of the community that participates in the forums are ESL or barely. So some of those who commented on this post didn’t understand what you were trying to convey.

The fact that I had to point it out, even though it was quite evident is not restricted to non-English speaking people. Those who’ve had their sense of humor removed were not amused, if PMs are to be believed.

Did you know that I had a post reported for breaking community standards? What did I say that was so terrible?
In a thread I detailing the findings of the previously mentioned testing to find a problem. One member of our community kept giving every post a thumbs down. No comments. No additional information. No added value to the discussion. He just managed to convey the social media equivalent of sticking his fingers in his ears.
I saw one post didn’t have the thumbs down, and I pointed out, “Hey you missed one.” That was it. I did call him out specifically, so that’s probably what it was.

These are the types of people I am making fun of here. They contribute zero but complaints.
I usually read the Players Helping Players section and try to assist. I will report bugs when I find them. I don’t spend any time demanding Funcom “Do Something” to rectify a bug, even when I lose an entire work shop because of a foundation problem. Due to my job, I understand how coding works, and how unintended consequences are common in software.
Adapting to change without undue complaining is a state of mind. I enjoy this game. I enjoy playing with the server community we’ve built. Over the years, I chatted with 80-100 people on our server. Do you know how many of them have posted on the forum? Three. Maybe 5-10 even read anything here.
This forum is not indicative of the player base in any way. The vast majority of players don’t interact with it at all. For a player to say that this or that is killing the game is ludicrous. It’s affected him, and for him to think that attacking the staff is the way to affect change is pure narcissism. Present a reasoned argument with sound thinking, not feelings.

So, no, I am not big on spoon feeding and tried to let people figure it out. I assumed that there would be complaining. So, thanks for that.

Also, PvP is the biggest group of babies.

(Oh, how I am laughing at that one)

I don’t think you appreciate how confusing your post was based on your intent. The only thing that tipped me off was the reference to taking a joke (which I shrugged at) and while I did comment initially as I had that assessment still stands. You’re not really changing my mind here.

I also do not think you appreciate how complex language is. So for all those that don’t speak English normally or are ESL they really are not going to get it. But if you don’t speak plainly of course most won’t get it either.

I know the person you’re talking about, being that there’s no thumbs down option, it’s the frown. But so what?? Ignore them. Does it really make that much of a difference how they react to a post with emojis? Would it have made you feel better if it was a heart instead? Did you ignore their other contributions or only focusing on the negative that seems to have induced your action here?

Ultimately the intent of your post is to make fun of people, correct? Ok fine. Your positive contributions are great but does it excuse away your intent here? Or in the example of H’s frownie faces?

I’m not sure you really have the high ground

But ok, haha people act ridiculous “point fingers”.

I had to have mine removed, it was infected.

@Kikigirl is not wrong, the OP reads like every other complaint rant post.
I still don’t see any humour in it.

But that’s just it. No one does. I learned a long time ago its not about being better than others but about determining if the standard that is applied is worth a confrontation or comment or a jabbing joke? We put it out there that we can’t promote a standard we fail at mastering and that’s a recipe to ensure we will always be something less than what we were originally…vs better because the standard promotes us to be better. We don’t have to be perfect but we should acknowledge there is a better way and strive towards it even if we are doomed to fail it ourselves.

In other words, there is no high ground. We are all swine in mud. That doesn’t mean we should just accept it and wallow in it but figure out where the pit is less muddy. Eventually we get to a position where we aren’t muddy any more but that doesn’t matter because we are still aren’t pristine and so we continue onward and upward and hopefully keeping in mind the mud pit we came from as motivation that we can achieve so much more than we think we can.

I think the disclaimer at the front diminishes the humor a lot because it sets a different tone.

As one that skims disclaimer stuff and just get to the meat of the posts, this didn’t affect me and I took these scenarios as comedy skits that have the sting of truth to them (the best type of comedy IMHO) and makes you think. If you focused on the disclaimer stuff in the beginning, I can see where it got confusing.

Leave it up to you to bring that philosophy into it XD

But nah, it ain’t that deep brother. Neither the post or my point.

This here, exactly, is the problem with most things here. People don’t think thoroughly enough. They see an apparent problem, they ask for a micro-level solution to that problem, and they don’t think about the wider repercussions of said “solution”, which ends up causing new problems.

Funcom is partly to blame, of course. When implementing updates, especially those based on player feedback, they should consider the impact on other, related, things before overbuffing or overnerfing something. But we, the players, should by now have identified this pattern, so we should know to be careful what we wish for.

This.
Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, shall complain about boobs’ size.
We know how that might end.

So what I’m hearing is that combat on console sucks, which is a justification for it sucking on PC too. Gotchya.

Yeah, but the problem is Funcom doesn’t just address the players concerns, they address the concerns PLUS add their own garbage ideas in. We wanted Legendary Weapons to be better. So we got better Legendary Weapons PLUS not being able to repair them. The players wanted horses. We got horses PLUS a thrall limit. We wanted thralls to not one shot players. So we got weaker thralls PLUS buffed NPCs that now one shot thralls. And so on and so on and so on.

Time and time again Funcom addresses players feedback by adding in their own dumb ideas. They need to stop that. When we say “such and such is a problem” they need ONLY address the problem. Then see what happens. Try changing one thing at a time rather than a whole bunch of things all the time.

All of the changes have made PvP way too easy for those who just want to raid and kill others, trying to defend your base is basically pointless. The old explosive jar placing system was great, you couldn’t just run around snapping them on anywhere you pleased but you had to put them down carefully. But NOOOO, let’s make 'em snap like any other placeable so it’s ridiculously easy to raid. Thrall nerfing never should have happened, they should be able to defend a base a bit longer that they now do. It also makes the game unbelievably boring to play when there isn’t anything special to go for anymore thanks to the removal of purge thralls and making the rest basically similar. There are many other aspects and changes i really dislike but let’s just go with this for now, i have a headache.

So after well over 5000 hours me and my friends also moved on to PvE thanks to PvP being a joke these days. And just to be clear, i also don’t care what anyone else thinks. I want interesting, challenging and rewarding gameplay and not this trash and i will continue to express my feeling as i have done so far.

Thank you.

It is pointless as a solo, so I changed it up. And, the customers seem happy.

Age of Sorcery ch3 was way to easy. If you have an active clan now, no worries, right?

But that is what everyone has been screaming they wanted since game release. We want “balance” which requires FC to put in their own two cents on consumer requests that is also steep in what they want the direction of the game to go in. The legendaries being unrepairable is a balance attempt since they are significantly better than weapons you can make. The direction they want players to go in is to redo dungeons and content over and over again and so how they balanced the legendary gear makes perfect sense. You may not like what they have put out there but every single PVP player on these forums have requested them to step up and balance things.

Hey everything can be a life lesson. If I can’t learn something larger out of a situation then why participate at all?
