Why so many problematic updates?

In my experience with modding you are describing an almost universal problem. Updates break mods.

It doesn’t always happen, but it’s very common. So much so that it’s usually recommended that you don’t update your game once you have your mods set and sorted, which is obviously a big issue if the game is online.

I’m sorry to hear you’re having a bad time, I know how frustrating it is to deal with update issues, but asking that development stop as too not mess up mods is a poor solution to a problem that only effects a subset of players from one platform the game is available on.

PS and XB gamers don’t have mods, any official server pc players don’t have mods. I’m sure a large number of private pc servers do use mods, but I also know some don’t. I won’t presume to guess at what % of pc servers use mods but I would assume it is high

Some way for server owners to lock the version of their servers could probably solve the problem, but it could get messy fast, seeing as all the servers players would have to be running the same version of the game.

They wouldn’t need it (read my other messages).

Me neither. But I’ve messed about with that dedicated server I’m talking about. You can even log on to yourself at 127.0.0.1 -
The dedicated server is very light weight and something like a 5600x can handle 20 simultaneous clients if your internet can - all while running your own client at the same time. You can test that on your own box too.

Anyway, it was just an idea - maybe a potential solution to get out from under the Funcom auto-updating server-client matching that seems to occasionally be killing the modder experience when everything falls apart.

Oh you do huh?

Tired of seeing these extremely ridiculous rants after every freaken patch. You want to ACTUALLY support mod authors? Stop making these bull crap threads. You are not speaking for myself, or the vast majority of the mod author community. You’re just a server owner who uses our mods (for free).

This, coming from the same person who DEMANDED that ALL mod authors agree to THEIR specific window of when WE would be allowed to update OUR OWN MODS (yes, for real, multiple times). And you, have the audacity, to act like you are supporting us?

Enough. Stop with the ridiculous conspiracy theories that Funcom is out to get mod authors. And stop speaking for mod authors and acting like you are out for our best interests (you are not, you are out for your own and NOTHING else).

They do not CodeMage. If you want to hear what’s real, you know how to reach me as always.

Sorry, from the inside of what? I get the feeling that when you say “devs”, you’re talking about modders, rather than Funcom devs.

Not a single one of the game dev industry people I’ve met or worked with was stupid enough to say things like that when there was a chance of someone blabbing it out to the whole Internet. People who work as devs, for a salary, tend to be more cautious when they talk about their current employers, no matter how much they disagree with those employers.

Well, crap. I honestly thought this dude was a modder. But I’m starting to have a hard time taking this whole thing seriously.

The irony in this one is strong coming from someone who basically managed in a day to get on the nerves of so many modders by making ridiculous demands and attempting to dictate their schedule. Your name is well known in the modding community but not for the right reasons.

I rarely get personal on these forums but with some people it is just not possible to stay out of it.

The majority of Conan players are on console, not pc. Mods aren’t something they need to care about. That’s on you if you use them.

I know you, but you know about 50 million other people, you are like one first people I can remember in Conan lol… i have to admit this isn’t the worst, it’s not even that bad its actually one of the less severe updates… so yes it’s getting better- but I still have stuff to fix the map I use won’t load… I see you working on it too and helping others, thank you! I came and shared what I learned to try and save others pain. I believe I even thanked you on your pippi forum… if not… thank you multigun! I was wrong about this and have not problem saying it and apologizing for my past trauma… it just looked like a disaster, it’s mild. I was have to go to my corner now.

Oh god, get me a copy from EA, PLEASE!!

Are they? You have a link on that… I would love to read about it. I’m being sincere- I’m watching the game world change. I think at one time it was PC if you are correct? Even the console people on my server still use mods. I’m glad they can play!

sorry your annoyed but are you speaking for others? I’m annoyed from the past with funcom- the old one… sorry my trauma from all the lost work and wiped servers makes you upset at me.

I’m over on the Pippi forum, I rarely bother you mutligun… I’m not evil… .but I was wrong about this update for the first time in conan history is was mild… I will admit that not that i spend the last two days figuring it out. I try to help I’m not just hear complaining to folks. I’ve bene problem solving since I woke up and there are still fire to put out.

My other concerns are still very real… mixing siptah with conan is bad… it just is. It should have been sperate game or an extension to the current map. Even an instance. At one point not long ago, one of the updates was so bad most some servers were down almost two weeks, vanilla servers were down too… it’s not like there is a good track record in the past… if you can’t admit that then must just be some horrible evil creature for saying anything or please see my concern as having some validity. I don’t like most of the updates. I don’t like a lot of the content compared to the modders content… its a fact for me. You don’t have to be mad or upset that I don’t like that, you didn’t personally do anything wrong at all, but I do want to express myself and not leave this a sour feeling for you… This game is the best game on the market. It’s just extremely challenging running a modded server, it’s has to be a true passion. There is little glory and a lot of work… and can’t imagine what multigun deals with in a day. I do praise pippi… it’s main reason I play conan… that’s all Multigun… I couldn’t do anything without it. And i get along with most of the community… some people don’t like my truth, it’s alright… sometimes I don’t like theirs either.

here’s the link. I think I time stamped it for you, but the Lead Designer says over half the players base is on console.

thank you! I did a search and didn’t find what I was looking for.

you are the type of person that should just stop responding to me please. I don’t care about your inputs all now… have a nice day! peace!

Yes, I have. I’ve had to wipe due to previous updates. Not this one thankfully.

Its their product to do so. They are allowed to do this. They have a right to do this. They have an OBLIGATION to do this.

Let me tell you something. I am a server admin. I had to deal with broken mods in 2.7. I am also a modder. I had to also deal with a broken mod. In both cases those were my decision to have to deal with those things.

So let’s talk about a feature in 2.7 that likely caused a few mods an issue. The ability to pick up walls, floors, and ceilings, and get back building pieces that drop with the pieces you pick up.

Mods that add building pieces would likely need to update in order to function with this change.

Funcom has two choices:

Give the players this feature. Players who use mods and players who don’t use mods, and PC players and Console players can ALL enjoy this feature. But cause modders to have to update or fix their mods because the blueprints in unreal need to be adjusted/updated to be compatiable.

Or do not add the feature. Modders don’t have to do much here. But modless and console players are SOL.

You really going to say that section option should have been taken? Actually don’t answer that. I think Multigun already exposed your true colors:

If this is true, then yeah I’ll side with Multigun on this.

Definitely this. I have gotten nothing but support from Funcom and our wonderful modding community when figuring stuff out in the devkit. Much of the information is easily searchable and even if its not, someone is there quickly to answer questions.

Wow that is interesting information. I would have assumed a much lower precentile was on consoles.

You haven’t been chastised until you have been chastised by Narelle. I have never seen this person be anything but helpful, kind, and understanding on these forums. I am a bit shocked really, you must have really POed the modding community.
