Why so much "Game Dead" stuff as is/ not?

100% agree. Some people just need to complain and focus on the negative. And when you try pointing out the positives, those same people accuse you of “white knighting” (why are so many nouns used as verbs nowadays?).

People just need to understand Funcom is made up of human beings, and no human being is perfect. I believe they do an awesome job, much better than I could do for certain.

They respond to forum threads all the time, they add content to the game and update it regularly, and they do all that for free. To me, that’s the most insane part. I have no idea how much running and maintaining servers costs, or how much FC employees get paid, or how much developement of new content costs…But I know it all does have a cost, so the fact that they do it with absolutely no charge to us is OUTSTANDING!

I personally choose to buy all the DLC’s to help support them, and I get plenty out of it (mostly from just a few, but I’ve used them all at one time or another). But people don’t HAVE to buy them. It gives you no advantage in playing the game. So someone could buy the base game and never spend another penny on it if they wanted.

And still, they are constantly working on it. They just gave us 2.7 which has some nice updates, added a temporary new event, and are working diligently on the huge 3.0…I fail to see how anyone can call the game “dead”, or say that FC doesn’t care about the game or the players.

Right, true. But such streams aren’t for those people. Those people will always be with us no matter what as you both rightly explain. This:

is for the rest of us and serves two purposes that I can think of and likely several I can’t. One, and likely the most important, is that we (the non-raging adult-like players) get to understand what’s going on as well as understand some to the reasons behind the changes to the game or policies. And the other is that with properly indexed youtube streams - which is the norm these days - those interested in replying to people having trouble or who aren’t sure what’s going on, can link them up to the official information - and do so without having to wear out our keyboards. There are in fact many people with legitimate concerns and questions - not everyone here is just venting and blowing steam.

Anyway, it’s just an idea. I like it. It could be a good thing. It could be great. And it also could be a total waste of effort. I dunno… But I would use them. I think to be useful in this way, they would need to be listed in a pinned thread (above) though: Links to the video and links to the indexed segments. And it would be mighty cool indeed if the people streaming also took and addressed a few topics from this forum, twitter, discord, or wherever Conan Exiles is being actively discussed.

Whatever, I won’t die without it but I think it could solve a lot of potential problems.

Well the player count supports the “Game is dying” crowd sadly. Also the current decay bug and game pass log in bug, going on since the last patch whithout any acknowledgment from fc do not paint a nice picture.
Putting the game into the current state and not providing a quickfix over the holidays is like shooting yourself in the knee.
I am lucky to play on a populated official server, but none of the gamepass people can log in, if they don’t uninstall a cumulative windows update ans nobody sane is doing building changes at the moment, while shelved chests disappear and disappear.
Sad

I am… I have my main base packed up in boxes

and will be using this basic pattern (that I roughed out on TestLive):

to create a 3 or 4 story base using three redwood trees as centers for each of those rings.

Oh, wait… you said nobody sane… Nevermind! :alien:

Yes but what question can be answered off the cuff by them as opposed to one of the design team without a ton of prep and talking points by the design team? If the “I WANT ANSWERS!” crowd shows up (and they always do) and one of the community team doesnt have new content to discuss with a set of prepared highlights, I’m afraid it might become borderline cruel and unusual punishment for them.

Awesome base design, but won’t it be impossible to put a roof on?

Where do you get the player count from? Far as I know, it’s not available to the public. And if going by what you see on servers, that doesn’t seem like the most accurate way to judge.

I mean I’m sure it’s down from when it first launched, but that’s because there’s a large group of players that just bounce from game-to-game. Whatever the flavor of the month is. But I see videos of PvP and there still seem to be a good number active on at least some officials.

Tricky, yes. Impossible, not even close.

Nice work. Some very cool patterns.

Then you aren’t looking very hard.

Oh please, you all have been singing the same tune whether the average player count on steamcharts was 1k, 8k, or 20k, its always “game dead.”

Typical gamer logic right there (and not the good kind). Far more important that they get to spend the holidays with family, then clock in yet more overtime, during the holidays no less. Game dev burn out is extremely common, and players are the biggest reason for it.

Hear, HEAR !

I know I make a ton of suggestions, but for the love of God they can wait until after the special and precious time with family and friends especially on the holidays.

Games in their right place on the rungs of life.

They should do all hands on deck. Get the artists, janitors, and even their children to get in there and start bug fixing. And then start spending money on anything and everything devkit related.

Cause we both know raw inexperienced and generalized manpower and expenditure of revenue for its own sake is the fastest and most effective way to fix any bug that could ever exist.

Okay, I get it, but I can’t 100% agree. Yeah, people will always complain. When they get out of line and start being vile and vitriolic, they should face the consequences for that. You’ll never get rid of complaints, but you can get rid of toxicity.

I don’t care how many idiots come here and complain about “censorship” because they’re not allowed to be unconscionably rude to Funcom staff (or others, for that matter). I don’t care how many people get salty over forum bans and create new accounts just to keep having a temper tantrum on the down low and take potshots over and over in the same breath in which they lament threads getting derailed. I don’t care how many snowflakes think that the First Amendment of the US Constitution somehow applies to a private forum that belongs to a Norwegian company and has a multinational and multicultural audience. If persistently toxic, be it in attacks on Funcom or defense of Funcom, then bye bye.

I know I don’t want that kind of crap here, but I’m not the one who decides, Funcom is. So if they don’t want it, they need to stamp it out. Out there on the rest of the internet, there’s a difference between 4chan and lobste.rs, so I don’t see why there couldn’t be a difference between official Funcom forums and Reddit, for example. Wanna be toxic? Not here, you can create your own subreddit or Discord or wherever the flying fuсk is the most popular venue for that shіt.

It’s almost nice to hear that one these days, given what else I’ve been called here. The toxicity here is a G.I.F.T. that keeps on giving.

Because verbing weirds language.

Are we gonna do this dance again? On second thought, no, I don’t think we will. Either show me the numbers or stop making empty noises.

No, you don’t get it! People are losing virtual bits of stuff in an imaginary world on some videogame servers! That’s much more important than spending time with your family, dude.

I swear that’s the mentality of some people, because woe unto anyone who points out that fixing gnarly Heisenbugs is not a function of how many warm bodies you throw at them…

So they are getting paid to sit there and wait for the next stream? Nothing else to do? So after they rephrase the questions with no content to release, what questions that can be answered are left that arent addressed when they do a content release stream?

When will X be fixed? No answer will be given

Why was Y changed? Answered at content stream

Various forum post topic? If an answer was available, they would have answered.

Its no win for them.

Or they are working on it and it is taking more time than expected possibly. All that would take is more communication on the difficulty of the problem and that they are working on it and even better if they could give more insight on what they are doing to correct it as possible.

Sry for the hijack guys… :innocent:

Yes, a pitched roof without holes would not be possible - Funcom does not supply enough pieces for that. I’m going for a flat roof with green shrubs lining the perimeter of the roof. I’m about 75% done. Been on it for about 90min maybe.

Or they can just focus on fixing it. We dont need to know how the sausage is made. We have no right to an explanation. That just leads to Monday morning quarterbacking that leads to “oh its just X” or “I could fix that in an hour” or it involves something that they’d rather we not know, like an exploit or some such. They are actively developing the game, both bug fixes and new content. For our part, we should report all bugs as we find them. Funcom will prioritize and fix as development goes on. That’s all that is really needed and anyone who looks back fairly can see that they have been working on bugs constantly. Anyone who looks back fairly can also see incessant whining about their pet game mechanic/bug not being addressed. I cant fault them at all for not sitting down kore often for abuse sessions. When there’s content, that’s appropriate as there are also a host of bug fixes that come along for the ride to highlight.

So incorrect and worse to say to paying customers. How strange of a comment to make on a purchased product.

You have no right to explanations on how the products you purchase are made. Sorry but thats the foundation of IP. Anything they tell us is only relevant in so far as we see the result in the game. “We are working on fixing X” is different than “We will have X fixed by Friday. Maybe. Or maybe not because the fix we think will work may not work” or “Oh on Thursday, programmer Josephine was sick so now it’ll be Tuesday.” Customers don’t have a right to any of that information. Thats just modern entitled mentality.

You are wrong on so many levels but I also know from experience that you won’t listen to any of them.

When customers don’t get information about their purchases that sows the seeds of distrust in the product they bought and makes them not want to purchase anything else from that seller/manufacturer . The longer this time window is the more they distrust . This is basic human nature and basic business. Again I am sorry if you can’t see this .

You dont see a difference between how you use it and how its made. Cant help you there. Go ask a chef for his recipes. Go ask Apple for source code. You dont get to know everything and if you expect to, get ready for disappointment.
