Really… “I know you are but what am I” response… you done? or is there going to be another immature response?
I’m sorry that you’ve run out of steam and are recycling the same points in endless text walls, but the point is quite simple. Feel free to carry on.
… i mean… you clearly aren’t angry at all… so… last time… we done with the whole attack thing or you got more in the tank?
I think this thread is like playing chess with a pigeon.
I dont think you got it. The answer to your request is simple.
No.
honestly never once did i ask or assume you were the solution provider to this question. Opinion noted… care to move on now?
I refer you to the ToS
Good to know… now… done? …or you just gonna keep this up all day???
Any chance you had at an official answer was lost when the thread became hostile.
But I think we’ve covered what the official answer would be.
Nope it just got lost in an echo chamber of noise about people’s personal experience and theories on how volunteering works …
Questioning people’s intelligence, refusing to accept any explanation that disagrees with you, even to openly admitting you ignore such responses.
And asking other people work for free, had nothing to do with it?
Because being a moderator is work.
You’ve really spent countless words repeating the same thing when you could have simply distilled this into one line…
“I don’t think volunteering would work and i don’t understand their business model”.
But here we are, same tired dragged out points with no new value being added…being echoed the same way, with no real hint of intelligent thinking beyond “I think” vs “i know”… its great you had an opinion, but to cycle a massive confirmation bias that your opinion trumps all others… thats where hubris and intelligence fails.
I’m sure there will be some new rebuttal that drags out yet another tired point after this one again… so have at it :)… question though was reasonable “why” …answer from two of you… “i dont like it”… ok… fine… anyone else? oh you still have the mic…off you go, give us yet another round of the same mindless noise.
Okay now that’s funny. You’re wrong about it, though. Exploit Hunters is more like the Sarlacc out in the desert: it lives forever and keeps its poisoned victims in its belly for millennia. ![]()
When it comes to emergent threats, what we have is actually an effective program. Exploit Hunters coupled with Funcom’s zero tolerance policy keeps discussion to a minimum, and the infection levels lower for new exploits in the wild. As just another player and partaker of many a server, this is very important to me.
If you want my opinion on why official servers even exist, it feels as though Funcom has maintained the covenant they made with us in Early Access. There’s a lot of talk about “playing as the developer intended.” That should be our mantra, because it serves both the player and the developer.
Official servers allow for an environment where we can play as our game’s awesome developers actually intended. The way they feel the game should be played. It’s a powerful statement from them and is a rare symbol of trust. In return, some of us continue to make inroads into exploits, and on the mighty shoulders of players-turned-gamemakers like Snowhunter, we regulars seek the source and extinction of bugs.
Admins are and have been therefore a poor solution to cheating, because they break the core component of the developers’ desire: the game wasn’t meant to be played that way.
Fk me… an intelligent voice arises. I disagree in parts but i’ll go ahead and mark this as being the closest to the solution.
Thank you.
The argument isn’t that Funcom is maintaining official servers to “appease a minority”. The argument is that the official servers are an additional feature players aren’t paying for directly. @Taemien didn’t draw any inference about the portion of the players this was intended for. You’re free to disagree with his argument, but don’t misrepresent it.
An assertion like that is not credible without insight into the actual codebase of Conan Exiles and the team’s development process, practices and infrastructure. I assume you don’t have that insight, but feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.
That’s factually incorrect. Most participants in this thread have been quite explicit in expressing their dissatisfaction with official servers.
Actually we did say that, maybe it was one of the posts you ignored as you composed your next rant.
Thank you for this insight, I didn’t think of looking at it that way.
I do have to say that I would love having a bunch of moderated servers. They could be paid for using the subscription model, but that’s not ideal. Once I managed to sift through @dorizzdt’s pretentious rhetoric and extract the kernel of original thought, I found myself agreeing with the idea enthusiastically: a group of community-moderated servers included in the official server list would be a nice addition.
But yeah, looking at official servers as “the way the game is meant to be played, without any constraints” is a fresh new perspective for me. I just wish Funcom could somehow streamline their patch process a bit more, so “the way the game is meant to be played” doesn’t include “endlessly fighting cheaters and griefers” ![]()
On the other hand, I know streamlining the development can be really damn hard.
You know what, I just tried to read through the entire thread and get caught up from the OP’s perspective. It really helped clear away the other things that aren’t important enough to even rehash. More essentially, it made me think about freeroam lobbies on the PS4 and how every other barcode could be a snooper, it’s a bit disheartening.
I don’t think I’d feel terribly free under a system of direct observation: I’ve been kick-prompted by a 5- or 6-man crew in Los Santos who was getting pasted by little old solo me. It’s not fun to be wrongly accused just because I’m pretty okay at playing with pixels.
Don’t get me wrong, I get a vicarious thrill when I think of the now-legendary tales of Funcom intervention. The Exploit Hunter himself went onto a server, spawned a few avatars, and killed a cheater clan he’d caught dead to rights. Last spring and summer, other officials observed illegal buildings on PvE and intervened to smash them.
Similarly, recently there were instances where a judicious use of force has placed enough pressure on a giant threat, that this threat decided to assail this very forum with a ddos, more than likely exposing his or her flank. With feedback like that, it seems pressure works.
The challenge we are about to face is the impending all quiet sonar: no more names on the player list unless the player pipes up. Any immediate self-regulating report system will not be an option under these conditions, so it falls to the old ways: document, harass, if possible provoke an exploit, and get it all on tape. ![]()
We have a clan dead to rights on video … logs of them admitting it … we also as my clan not only defended but police the pvp server yet the scourge which is the troll butt hurt cheaters remain… the moment our guard is down in they come exploits and all.
On my horizon as I speak is 4x bases each with unlimited god bubbles reminding us not only can’t we raid them with arrows now but should we even be able to raid them, getting the chests just slightly below the mesh is going to be time consuming and tricky… moreover when we fight with their network manual overrides we play the game of latency elastic catch me if you can (funny moment we saw one outrun a horse …)
If we had a but a human being to look at all this evidence and deliberate “I feel this is not as per devs intended” ruling … the villagers of 1974 could return to normalcy and begin rebuilding basis filled with theories on how “x walls would prevent a raid” vs “ so they can just walk into the bar, no explosives or hostility and just take stuff from any open station??”
What was the devs original founding intention here … I play eve online, even am a coalition director of thousands of players so I do get let player content define the economy of scale … but even that game draws the line on cheating …
Is that still going to get rolled out? I thought they rolled it back?
