Why would anyone want a Coin of Crom?

Forgive me, I know this probably exposes my simpleton mind, but buying DLC is a basic transaction. Me, the human interface, takes human currency and offers it to the Great God Dev. They then bestow me with the feats required to do the thang.

Very lore-versed folks have reminded me the Gods in CE are illusions, or perhaps a twisted “ideation” of Gods. I just wonder how to fit Crom Coins into my CE universe. Battle Passes are, after all, interactable with :white_check_mark: tasks / chores :no_entry_sign:, depending on one’s mindset. This really seems to break the blood/brain barrier of immersion.

I guess thats my point; they arent part of “the immersion”. Your character has no knowledge of your interaction with a “battle pass” (I’d also be impressed if REH ever mentioned a battle pass…). Crom Coins exist in the Funcom sales interface only, not in the game world.

I’m not that much of a simpleton, I do get that. This just seems a bit off.

Let’s say I buy a Battle Pass for $10. Does it come with like 30 Crom Coins? Can you earn more by doing Battle Pass stuffs? Oh ETA never mind, I just saw 1,000 coins buy a Battle Pass.

Well one thing I learned while working in corporate… marketing always gets its way… Crom Coins it is.

Well Sairdontis it looks like you have a supporter in me yet again. If I were to sum up these ‘Crom’ Coins up, I would call them a product of consumerism and diservice to the lore. Surely there are numerous actual Hyborian age currencies and denominations which the game could have used in place of these. Most people around here know who I am and exactly what I advocate for. But the things I do advocate for in my thread all exist within the lore and all have citations to support them. But of all the potential additions which this game could potentially stand to add for Crom, weapon & armor duplicates, a statue, a purge, an altar, animal sacrifice, this is what he gets…a cyber currency used for microtransactions. It feels utterly blasphemous, and in poor taste to me. While we are at it maybe we should start making Jesus bucks, Mohammed bobbleheads, or wait why not a Mitra egg whisk, a Brahma slot machine, or the always charming doggy dollars.

Of all the potential ways to represent Crom in this game, I can think of few worse than this. And when I read ahead to the bottom of the conceptual page in my own mind, I find myself questioning the narrative and what is currently deemed suitable and granted approval in regard to the lore and usage in this great game. So let me see if I understand this correctly. We can have Mitra* worshippers kill the downtrodden and offer their souls up like some kind of blood sacrifice to appease him. We can include creatures from the Lovecraft mythos, an entirely different franchise. We can have artifacts from the Schwarzenegger movies, and we can have childrens cartoon figurines from Conan Chop Chop as ornaments, all the while playing on the two maps both derived from the Expanded Universe writings. But yet with a pile of references in the bank, all supporting a case for more artifacts for Crom, this was what we got. A cyber currency. I can only hope that there will someday be an Age of the Gods battle pass which will do the the mighty grim grey god some justice.

Too long didn’t read? The concept of Crom Coins is consumeristic and distasteful, and while I doubt it, consideration should be given to changing their name to that of an actual Hyborian currency.

This , yes, this please. In a world rich with other cultures and currencies and other forms of valuables could we not find and use of these as a I suggested of the most powerful nation in the Conan universe at the time.

And I thought, this thread was just meant as a joke for the fun of the community…

Crom also does not care about microtransactions.
Mitra might be more firm on fair prices.
Derketo would probably charge more for decoration and luxury items.
Ymir would crush the store.
Yog would eat you and turn you into a wallet and store their Crom coins in your skin.
Zath would not allow you to use the store because of gambling restrictions.
Set wants your money…all of it. He wants you addicted to the store.
Jeb Sag…Just wants head scrachies and cuddle wuddles…

They couldn’t use Fun Coins because there’s nothing fun about it for those who bought DLC’s xD

Explained this before, having a in game currency is just one currency instead of every countries own currency.

There more currencies in the world its not as simple as adding a price in dollars and euro’s.

If the price changes all they have to do is lowering or upping the amount of crom coins, not 50+ times of different currencies.

Think with logic, this would be a waste of time better spend in development or really anything else.

Not to mention Sony and MS want their cut of the in game purchases so they force game companies to have this alternative money so that they can sell this money in the console stores.

I don’t think Crom would care about your opinion either…just saying.

I believe Steam also takes a cut, but all these companies make no new money with the loss of customers over unsatisfactory product.

Back on subject though , with a game so closely tied to story keeping with that story you would think would be a priority.

Huh…look what I found

Look what else you found. Nothing to do with Robert Howard’s written works at all. How neat indeed.
