Will Co-op fix this?

On my Single-player, I’ve always had issues with items spoiling at insanely fast speeds when I leave the area. With decay setting at the absolute minimum, I can still have gruel spoil in a few minutes for example.

I’m thinking of starting over (I usually do every couple months or so), and I’d like to know if I start the game on Co-op if it would fix this problem? Or maybe there’s another fix?

I usually get around it by admin spawning in a preservation box and ice, but would prefer not to have to resort to cheating to fix it.

What are you keeping your food in? I don’t bother trying to get any significant amount of food until after I unlock the preservation boxes. I mostly live off of the Mitra food “Ambrosia” as it doesn’t spoil at all.

Like food I put in wheels of pain. I didn’t know Ambrosia even helped with hunger. I thought it just gave a mild healing buff (haven’t ever messed much with religions in game). Maybe I’ll just try that instead, though can it be used in a wheel?

Go into server settings and adjust item spoil rate

What is your spoil rate setting actually set to?

I’ve been playing Singpleplayer the last few days myself and have had a stack of Gruel in a Wheel of Pain that started at 100, and after several days of play its still around 94. So only used 6 gruel between breaking thralls and spoiling.

My item spoil rate is default at 1.0 (I don’t try to extend it since it also extends the time for eggs to hatch and similar effects).

I have it turned down to .1, as low as it goes.

Gruel takes 80 minutes to expire. At 0.1 that goes to 8 minutes. That would explain your issue.

No, at .1 the gruel lasts 13 hours and 20 minutes…unless I leave the area for a few minutes, in which case it insta-spoils.

Are you running mods? This isn’t happening to me with or without mods.

Yes, a handful.

Modlist

At least one of your mods hasn’t been updated in 5+ years. You might want to review your modlist there. There’s likely a few others that are out of date and potentially causing issues.

Stuff on campfires does instantly spoil if you’re not watching it. Even with spoil rates at 0.1. Best bet? Keep an eye on your food until it’s done, then leave the area. Correct spoils in 10,000 years should then apply. Compost can spoil stuff fast too if you’re hanging out on the other side of the map.

I never tried to use if for a wheel of pain. I don’t think it works. What you can do as a stop gap until an answer is found is make the gruel as needed. Plant fiber and seeds don’t spoil. Just keep a campfire next to the wheel and make it when you need it.

As far are religion. While it needs some love there are useful things in there. It’s worth diving into it.

The mod that’s the oldest update is the one that just makes your bracelet into a light. That could possibly cause this spoiling issue? Even though it seems to work perfectly fine for what it does?

The simple answer is - yes it could. I’ve previously had situations such as crashing everytime I opened the artisan bench (and specifically the artisan bench, other benches were fine) - that turned out to be being caused by an outdated mod that did nothing other than turn off the ‘wet effect’ to prevent rain.

If you use mods (as I do) and run into a weird bug, the first step is to test whether it is mod related. Generally the easiest way is to a) backup your save file, and then b) remove half the mods, see if the problem persists. Then remove the other half, check again. And then just narrow it down a few mods at a time until you home in on the one that’s causing it. The bigger problem is that sometimes it can be an interaction between mods that is the cause, and that can be a little harder to correctly identify.
