Yet another complain topic

Yes, I know, these topics are toxic, game is fine as it is, go play single player / private, everything is rainbows and unicorns and bla bla bla …

Now if you are bringing up these arguments, please, don’t. Or at least take some time to think about them.

If you want to be constructive, tho, here it is: this game is derailing. I see lots of stuff which I really have hard time understanding “why” …

Golems to say one.
Why do we even have them ? What use are they for ?
To collect resources ? That was something that Thralls (or at least bearers) should have been able to do.

They just make the games run like sh*t whenever they are around. It’s even hard to interact with them for how laggy they are.

Yet we must be keeping the amount of thralls low because of server performance, when you just need 30 golems to make the whole server crash.

Now we’re getting fatality mechanics which… meh !
I’m sure they will just make the game even more laggy (IN COMBAT) without adding anything useful.

We already had the gory kills. If they wanted to do something cool, they could have added some weapon-specific gory kills without triggering complete and long animations, which just appear ridicoulus.

Yeah I’m talking about those guys circling you waiting for you to finish their mate before attacking you. Or attacking you without hitting cause you are inside the fatality animation.

Really, why doing these things ?
They game is already heavy as it is.

Also, if anything, we did need some STEALTH mechanic.

Now this topic is not to ASK anything to the devs, I just want to know if I’m the only one who feels this game is getting useless stuff that will only make it heavier and more laggy without adding anything useful.

Echos in the void my friend. This topic has been posted here many times. People are tired of revisiting the same gripes over and over. We know it’s broken. Funcom knows it’s broken. At this point these kind of posts serve no other purpose besides validating your feelings. Most people will 100% agree with you.

There does seem to be something of a throw stuff at walls and see what sticks, without cleaning up what doesn’t, approach at times. When something redundant is added, already existing things in game are nerfed or diminished to encourage the use of the new, worse option. None of which ever get finished.

That’s the big issue, we see many dangling unfinished ideas.

Sorcery, more spells coming?
When?

The Pet nerf was claimed to be but the first step in bringing them to parity.
But it stalled there.

Hypothetically these cumbersome execution attacks are the first step in multi-character emotes.
But given how long pet stats have languished, why believe this would ever happen…

Or, we can go back to the classic, where is the clucking Mummy of the Ring?

This game has all of the design cohesion and focus of a squirrel on meth.

But what is there to be done?
The dev have “heard our feedback” as tho we are the attention starved welps on TikTok who want to feel heard, rather than paying customers describing flaws in a product.
Their response of we have a good reason for everything we do is tissue thin feces from a bovine.
It may be an honest statement of their intentions at the time, but their follow thru is atrocious.

None of this matters, of course.
This game’s monetization is not aimed at those who interact in PvAnything. It’s aimed at Builders and those who wanted Sims with nudity.
In that, they were in a damned if they do (pay to win) or damned if they don’t (cosmetics only mean the only payer base to appease are doll house owners) situation.
But the gameplay has suffered significantly now that they don’t have to even pretend to give a hoot about those who are engaging in battle, against NPCs or other PCs regardless.

Age of War has been the least enjoyable of periods in this game, a peer of the long months when it was literally unavailable or had crash at load events constantly. The inpending update looks to correct one part while stabbing this one with another.

The negative sentiment is understandable.
It is shared.
But as noted, there is no good to be had posting here about actual game satisfaction.
No one in authority cares if anyone thinks the game is fun or enjoys the way it plays.

This one will most likely take off the bracelet soon.
Chapter 4’s inventory UI enshittification is most likely the proverbial last straw. Not just because it sucks, but because it comes so swift on the heels of the enshittification of combat. That’s the trajectory and this one finds little pleasure in constantly struggling against the core systems of a game, regardless of whether the other content is interesting (this one actually likes the purge boost and wild hunt ideas, even if the latter is grindy af and as out of place in Age of War as the Tavern system is).

This one’s hierarchy of fun has gameplay as the foundation, followed by content, then concept/tones, and then how pretty it is.
The Core Gameplay has been savaged non-stop for long enough to carry a child to term and any improvement is coupled with some fresh abomination.

It’s just not worth it anymore.
So this one will do what they can. And find something more fun. This one may complete the battle pass, or not, in idle hopes that the game is one day in the future better… But as far as actually playing… No, this one is likely done.
And as this one will not be playing, this one will have no useful feedback to add, so this one’s presence here will also close. Not that feedback here was ever relevant, with the specially curated playtest groups and such that had been cultivated.

So rejoice, this obnoxious old clown is preparing to take a bow. In that way, the forums will at least improve somewhat.

What do you mean? On my server they are blinking while moving. This makes them invisible 50% of the time and saves 50% resources

True, there should be a separate button to trigger Fatality, there should be no invulnerability while performing it.

This, I don’t even know why do we have crouching in Conan? It should be linked to stealth, and stealth itself should be linked to agility stat. And then there should be a % chance to become spotted.
But instead they made enemies short sighted and deaf.

But on every RP server - crouched = stealth, as in most other games.

People complain that there is not enough offensive spells.
While Conan is not D&D and fireballs do not fit in here, we could equip sorcerers with some pesky skills that are lore friendly and mechanics are already in the game.
They could make enemy player hungy and dehydrated, they could apply some type of confusion upon him (drunk effect), slow them down (reuse over-encumbered state) etc…

Not gonna say that the game has everything for everyone, but there is something that people who don’t see value in everything should consider. Bug fixes alone, changes to broken mechanics that were implemented a long time ago for speed, etc don’t make for flashy (or timely) releases. Players expect something new with major updates. So if you look at the changes in inventory, the changes to combat, the harvesting ability of golems, the thrall sockets at doors, chairs and what have you, imagine what else they could be used for. This is an iterative process that is building on changes. Individual pueces may leave you wanting (I personally do not use golems for example) but now imagine instead of just following you, your thrall also did something. Imagine the sockets as not stationary thrall spots but points they start and finish from. Imagine what changes to the UI could enable like maybe linking benches and storage together. Those are all just hypotheticals, but they are big hypotheticals that require steps as they would take a long time to implement. I think we are seeing large scale changes to all the fundamentals of mechanics that take time (and by extension money) to develop. I’m most curious as to where it ends, not where we are at this exact moment.

I appreciate your optimism - and am genuinely glad that there are still people like you that see a positive future that’s worth putting in the effort to mod for. But if these hypothetical long-term improvements require months or even years of bad gameplay before they can arise, then what really is the point? Especially given that Funcom has not shown a great track record of actually finishing these things, so the future is by no means guaranteed. After all, as you say yourself, there is less benefit to fixing broken mechanics that were implemented a long time ago - so they add new broken things, unfinished, then, when we ask why they are not fixed, the answer is just a repeat of the same - gotta add new stuff, fixes aren’t worth the time…

Believe me, I feel very much the same - what will I really have to add to the conversation if Funcom have finally pushed me to the point of not playing? All I can say is that I for one will miss you if you are gone.

Appreciated, but lead your shots less.
This one moves slowly, if you don’t lead your shots as much, you will miss this one significantly less.

You sure we aren’t kin folk. Same way i judge a game.

to me, Pretty is the last, and possibly, most opinion based. area of a game.

I think some of it is, the stuff that some people find horrible, others don’t notice. Like, I use controller when I play for fun, so a lot of the combat changes weren’t even noticeable to me. I use keyboard and mouse in the kit and when I test my maps, but keyboard and mouse always feel awkward to me so again, I didn’t notice what others were angry about. When I haven’t cared for a change, it’s usually a shrug and not active dislike… but that’s just me. I do know that when I pick up other games over the last few years, I get irritated within 10-20 min and wish I hadn’t spent the money and just go right back to CE. I’m more upset that there isn’t another game that even remotely competes for my attention, but until that day comes, I’m locked into CE. I’ve always been of the mind that nothing is perfect. CE is however hands down the game I have enjoyed more than any in my life, so much so that it got me to learn Unreal Engine… something that a lot of people learn because they want to work in game development. I just taught myself so I can get more out of the game I love.

This is the most accurate summary I think I’ve ever seen about the game!

Whereas I particularly dislike using a controller (bought one last year because advice suggested it was far better for early Assassin’s Creed games - lasted one session before I went back to KB/M and tolerating the jank, lol), which may be a part of why I found the combat changes particularly egregious. Certainly I recognise that the experience is not the same for all. If it was just that one (albeit major) thing, or just that one chapter I would have more patience for it. Like you (and others), CE has been my favourite game for a long time, but unlike you (and more like LostBrythunian) I find less and less left of a game that I enjoy :man_shrugging: The incoming QoL changes feel like just one more nail in the coffin - maybe one day they lead to something good, I hope that you are right. I don’t know if I’ll be around to see it.

How about corruption blast/explosion? Not like it presented now, but to fill enemy player with corruption. With some decent amount, not like 0,00000001%.

On top of the mountain of bugs is the useless customer support. I have reported multiple times about someone who build a giant sandstone box above my base which now has a land claim on my base. This means i cant remove amd replace any part affected or i lose that part of the land. Ive given up and will not spend another dime on this game. Have 2k hrs in this base and someone was able to claim my land, ugh.
