We have different experiences.
On a completely unrelated note, like @Eradicati0n mentioned in his appreciated video, the bookshelf doesn’t display any actual books just like the nemedian bookshelves.
… The sacred hunt event granted us with a reskin for the broken thrall pots.
There is undeniably a pattern there.
… And both bugs have been reported multiple times.
Do you have any idea what the purpose of having loaded books is? Do they change or something? I don’t get why they just aren’t part of the model.
This bookcase, and the Nemedian bookcase, use the variable placement system which offers multiple layouts in a single placeable. It flicks between different layouts roughly once every second when you have the ghost of the placeable visible
I presume it’s designed to stop monotony, which was an issue with bookcases from mods. You either had to have multiple models with different layouts, or just the same model each time. I presume the books not loading comes from a bug with the variable placement system perhaps not properly fetching the selected layout, but that’s just my perspective of what the issue could be
Thanks for explaining. A very nice to have feature if it worked!
It’s in a couple of other things too, the lavender plants jump to mind. Ironically, it seems to work perfectly there, the issue is just mainly bookcases
This one can also note the creeping ivy for the walls is similar in that it slow switches between shapes. Something of a novel feature that helps to give the growth a more organic look.
This one would prefer a way of player controlled toggling, perhaps with the “rotate” command used for building pieces, but as it is, it’s not the worst option.
The Ivy tends to work extremely well.
The Bookshelf, this one speculates, that first the bookshelf itself, empty, renders in, then at a much later priority of rendering, the books in whatever configuration are rendered in.
The bookshelf, in its empty form, is the placeable, the books are some sort of effect it generates.
So for the same reason that dogs on Siptah are often invisible, and that certain bits of armour load much later… The books on the shelf are so far back in the render order that they often fail to render because some sort of limit has already been hit.
Meanwhile, the plants are what they are rather than two stage item. So they render clean.
From what I’ve heard, the bookshelves not having any books is primarily a console problem? They have always worked as intended and shown the books for me and I’ve built multiple large libraries with the nemedian ones.
When the internet shuts down, everything works like it did before the internet lol.
Though it is a bother when everything was digitalized to have to look for the physical folders, the hospitals in my country still archive paper copies of their patients’ data. Plus I used to work close to police officers in my former job, and believe me, their tools and criminal data bases are in no way dependant on the measly internet. Same goes with transport. Just imagine if air traffic control was obstructed each time internet was cut, lagging, not working… we would see a sea of planes which could not take off nor land. Again, the software and computers are in no way dependant on internet. They DO have internet on computers, but they use it only for internal com or limited personal use.
I do not know how a gaming company procedes, but I can only imagine the software they use to “create/improve” the game itself is not internet related, so they can still progress in their work. However, they would have to either wait for the internet to come back in their town to communicate and update their servers, or find an other source of internet. Can anyone clarify?
Works fine on my Series X single player game
Makes ya wonder why that is, doesn’t it?
Just kidding, I know neither of us is wondering at all.
Holy crap. $30 for a carpet, a telescope, and some broken bookcases?
Wow.
Just… wow.
Well the telescope is new content.
I’ve paid $100 for an ok area rug, real world.
OT, I hate the prewrinkled rugs in game.
The paint is already chipping on this set for cluck’s sake.
@Eradicati0n 's showcase of this set is brilliant.
I had an idea while watching the review. The scratches, marring, and other cracks and distress marks. Why not incorporate 3 or 4 levels of distress for the entire set? And then simply make them rotate (as they do for bookcases) through those levels: Mint, new but well maintained, well-used, really super well-used, and almost falling apart.
This would be an incredible opportunity that might actually make all of the sets worth it for a higher price point. That way you could setup all of your new scholar chairs, and then you can set the really really worn scholar chair that you can tell is the one that the scholar has been working in.
I mean - you could introduce this for ALL of the previous sets as well. If the artists need some extra billable time.
Believe the bug reports I’ve seen were Playstation specifically
Gonna pass on buying the scholar set. It just doesn’t fit in for me or my builds it seems outa place it’s too clean and detailed. It’s like placing a 4K high detail portrait of the Mona Lisa on the wall of your house in minecraft. I could probably get it to work if I build a structure based on the lost city of Atlantis but I have no intention on doing that any time soon. I’m gonna stick to my wild savage witch/hobo theme.
i do kjnow of someone who has bought everything the game has launched, except this, the person believes its an abuse on funcom side, and decided to NOT buy it.
Thank you Cauthey!
Big support on the distress system idea. Probably best to have it on a toggle to avoid issues with not being able to see the distress in ghost, but it’s a solid idea. Not sure how feasible it is, I’d like to think it’s as easy as putting a texture mask over it, but I know there’s a 99% chance I’m wrong in thinking it’s that easy
