Sword and Sorcery is a favourite genre. Especially as it contrasts against High Fantasy.
Not just in aesthetics, but also in themes.
Fatigue from overwrought (yet also poorly implemented) “special” effects may play to the strength of the genre, if anyone bothered to fulfill that nitche. The (comparatively) recent (2011) Conan movie was a great example of someone not understanding the assignment. Perhaps deliberately.
Also, the… whatever the cluck Sega is doing to Golden Axe (the new game coming so far looks like it is in competition with Beast Rider for wants nothing to do with the original and doesn’t understand why the franchise was popular award).
S&S is on the wayside not for lack of an audience or customer base, but for lack of a will to create a product for those customers.
High Fantasy is fine, but at best it is adjacent to Sword and Sorcery, and there is something of a fatigue with the either juvenile/young adult approach to the topic, or super hero (more like villain) drama with swords take. It’s a saturated field there.
Honestly, that’s one of the reasons Conan Exiles, despite bugs and bad faith business practices, continues to chug along. The Survival genre is getting crowded, but Sword and Sorcery flavoured Survival is still extremely lonely. The resonance between concepts of survival and Sword and Sorcery are extremely strong, a natural fit. The struggle is not just against men or beast, but a world which, not thru deliberation, but thru harsh nature, tests a person, forcing them to strive to survive… That’s a core principle.
Frazetta, Milius, and Corman could clean house today.
Honestly, this one wouldn’t mind higher price tags if the quality were there.
Devs deserve vacations and retirement as much as any other worker.
But it’s the fact that the initial buy in is often buggy af, and the content meager, there to just get a customer on the micro transactions treadmill, with already completed portions of the game on disc locked away as “DLC” that bristles this one.
Yep. After what Funcom have done with Conan Exiles I’m not touching Dune because they’re just going to do it all over again. I would imagine that some people are fine with that, but I am not.
Most people I know did it playing normally and still got it done fast. The old battle pass challenges I typically got done in 3 weeks just sitting down for 1-2 hours doing challenges 1 day a week. The new BP I got done in 1 week just with hardly even 30 minutes a day doing my normal stuff…
Find it hard to believe anyone wasn’t getting it done unless they just weren’t playing at all and if that’s the case why does it matter since you weren’t playing?
You should check their history with previous games. Conan is SOP for funcom.
Thing is look at the conan player count and player tenacity, if Dune does as well I’m sure funcom will be happy. And I expect there will be 200 hours of game play, but I expect to get fed up with funcom’s SOP fast. I am far more a Conan fan then a dune fan. Read the books, watch the old movies, not interested in the new ones.
That doesn’t change the fact that it’s affordable and literally paid for itself 7 times over.
3 months to complete 60 levels. If you buy the BP on day 1 and don’t complete it by day 90, guess what?? You shouldn’t have bought it. That’s not Funcoms fault. That’s not my fault. That’s on you.
I did not. I agreed to game that i bought back in 2018… but this stupidity started when conan was bought by some other business or something… like years later, then game workers and developers said it wont change anything… then not short after the game got weird dlc changes and abnormal prices … yeah " nothing to do with company that bought us"
and changing how game is like years later is basically idiotism, specially if it goes on pricing…
EULA said the same thing then, and if you hadn’t have agreed to it you wouldn’t be here.
I prefer games that evolve. Of coarse evolving usually mean getting better.
Costs go up, prices have to. I’d be happier with the prices going up if that up went to the guys making the content and doing the bug fixes. But I doubt seriously if that is the case here.
if cost go up then users go down because job payouts does not go up
As example, i am student… long story how and why, but i generate 50 $ a week, for what need to buy food as i get free spot while studying,so around 40$ food 10$ for hobbies, if something is more than 10$ like 4 digital things that is not normal… 39.99$ for literally 5 pieces that modders did better for free…
Its not even upgrading game but pushing away players who likes game… i can admin conan IS ONLY game where i spend money so much to sponsor devs but this shit on pricing is making fun of this …
I honestly don’t expect the price increase to effect most people that are shopping the bazaar. I’m of the opinion if the prices hadn’t already put you off shopping the bazaar; or kept you from purchasing much or regular, the new pricing wont either.
And I live on a fixed income, so broke all the time. As prices rise my income doesn’t.
But that isn’t why I don’t shop the bazaar, just makes me more frugal. I don’t check the bazaar hardly at all, but there are times i have seen content I thought was worth the sale price and I had the croms. So not why i didn’t buy.
I’ll suggest that funcoms reputation for bugged items, low content Q&A, and their buyer beware polices costs them more sales then the prices. Certainly has for me.
If you want a laugh fro is a word and I used to have one.
Wrong. while they had normal regional prices i buyed it because i could afford it… but now the main game is like 75% cheaper than 4 items in bazaar, yep i buyed for 1200 cr those building pieces and so maybe 2400 ( while they costed me 10$ not 39 99) as now so last 2 thing , bacharan and this sky watcher sets can go suck crock butt… literally game itself is i think 4.99$ on discounts with 1 map, and buildings and story, meanwhile some broken items, that cant even get used, 39.99 xD…
If they add some building set that is on 2400 again and regionalise CR i will buy it like again and as i once did , but to transwer money to $ it fooking cost me more than the dollars shows… because of money rate tax… as buyer who buys stuff in different value than region has
Didn’t Tenecent the owners of Funcom recently get their backsides handed to them with some terrible investments?
Seems like i heard that somewhere where they got some bad stock or over purchased and went way over budget or some crap.
If that is the case the issue is probably them trying to get all their money back by pushing the limits on the store pricing, though let’s be honest it’s hard to tell with these companies what is recouping losses and what is just plain greed.
In either case, it’s punishing the players that did nothing wrong in a sense.
