Countering claws means either you are very skilled or the claw user is not.
The youtube videos prove they do dominate and probably make up the majority of kill clips you see (since spear nerf patch).

Well if that is so, you might have some ground to stand on regarding claws - I couldn’t say either way. I do posit that it’s possible there’s a degree of adjustment/learning a new meta rather than straight up imbalance involved though.
Lots of people jumping to the “flavor of the week” tool doesn’t prove much by itself, that’s how it’s always been in every game I’ve played. Note that I’m not saying it disproves anything either.
This is a forum, other players with experience on the OP will weigh in. I’m not trying to disprove, just show evidence and educate. Here is a video that shows claw use in PvP
alot of the use looked like 3 v 1 on the claw guy side.
And some were jsut straight up ganks before the claws were ever used. A better video is seeing them in a controlled test. Both fighters at 100 health, then introduce scenarios, 3 v 1, 1 v 3 etc. and see how that plays out. Here we are getting the endings of fights more than the context of when it occurred.
In the wild, there are so many factors, that what may seem OP is not as bad if you are prepared. Plus, there was a lot of the old meta spear. And hammers and daggers are hyper armor to possibly counter the claws 1v1.
All 100% right, I totally agree, and I’m not trying to say how it should be, just showing live gameplay (ADDED: some people are totally ignorant (meaning lacking knowledge, not the same as stupid) as to the use of an item if the demand is not there to experience it). And arena pvp and wild pvp are different because of this, but how many servers are won in an arena?
Obviously whoever wants to chime in can and say i’m wrong are you are welcome to your opinion.
Was not saying you were srong. And yes, in the wild is different than organized. But my point being, that in the wild it takes time to adapt. But in an arena, you can train on techniques and even see if there is a chance at overcoming the claws.
EXample:
Arena, if multiple known “decent” fighters test, and the claws win every single time, buy a wide margin, then they may be OP. But if they lose 20% of the time, and the battles are close on 60% of the others, then it is more a learning curve, than OP.
So now in the wild, i now know if i can force the claws user into certain situations i have a chance at beating them. And if they haven’t tested, they may be overconfident in the OP aspect, allowing me to shatter their dreams even quicker.
Personally, I think @Gnadolin, @Kholdenn, & @SirDaveWolf all know the right move here. I don’t really need the controlled study, the field reports show enough. The availability and stamina glitch issues should be altered slightly.
Yes, the stamina usage eeds to be looked at if it is faster than sprinting.
But, if you reduce the availability now, then the haves and havenots issue comes up. Some people will have 20 sets, and new players are SOL. The cat is out of the bag.
I think we need to step back and not take a i got beat, so now we need to nerf asap approach. Between this and archery, we need to look at it as a way to evolve the metas, and possibly have multiple viable options instead when pvping.
resource costs for armors with hardened steel, the acid arrows and cost, there are more examples of adjusting availability…these things get adjusted after release and therefore Is always a case of haves and have nots. It’s not perfect but it’s hopefully an improvement when they make adjustments. That should not be justification for failing to act.
LOL
Did I say it should be easy? No. If I have enough skill to 1v4 with no claws involved, then I deserve it. My argument is that garbage players can be good just because of claws, which totally makes experience and skill worthless.
Oh, and you can’t catch someone with claws who is low unless you have some yourself.
Doesn’t work in gank squads. As I said, you can drive them off in a 1v1 (can’t kill them) but you’re 100% screwed vs a gank squad.
How is a skilled individual being able to 1v4 bad pvpers not fair? Claws literally make you immortal unless you’re fighting someone else with claws, and in gank fests, good luck. I wouldn’t think I should ever have to worry about someone who only knows how to spam one button.
you run faster using claw’s attacks and spend less stamina than sprinting… does it makes sense?
How to deny that the claws do not need rebalancing?
It has nothing to do with learning curve. Actually there is not much secret in using the claws.
You lock on the opponent and press the mouse button, only sometimes you might not lock.
If he tries to fight back, you wait for the breach on his attack animation and then go up. He will run out of stamina first in any situation, even if he tries to run.
This weapon makes the player’s skill less important.
Takes away the versatility of the game (just like the spear did in the past).
You can run away without to worry.
Stamina usage is lower than any other weapon.
Stamina usage to run away is lower than sprinting.
Besides that you can get infinite stamina and there’s another point …
You can use the claws to get away faster than sprint when you are over encumbered, so no need to worry about spending points in encumbrance, not even 20 points to avoid crippled debuff, because it doesn’t affect a claw’s user speed.
On top of that, the weapon is anti climate. why not buffing daggers for example?
We actually used claws just yesterday to carry away loot from a base. No need for 50 ENC, just use claws.
Looking at the video, the claws seem to be good at killing people who aren’t even trying to fight back from behind. Every kill where the other guy was actually trying to fight back was done with a spear. And, of course, not everyone documents the cases where they, themselves, got pwned, so this material is potentially biased.
I’ve no experience with PvP, and the claws aren’t my favorite weapon in PvE (its attacks carry too much forward motion), so I have no “side” in this argument. Just pointing out that the video didn’t convince me towards either direction.
The claws are annoying, but still most of the argument is that it makes it easy for bad players and most of the arguments against the counters is, they doesn’t work if it’s a good player… Well if your problem is bad players with claws then the counters should work I guess…
Maybe the claws should be toned down a little, but I don’t really see the problem in 4 bad players having a chance against one good
Really just to show people who had NO IDEA since they weren’t so numerous before and many could have no exposure to them. It is absolutely biased lol.
Bestial Claws need to be nerfed asap or or taken out of the game because we already have the other jhebbal temple claws that don’t spoil Conan’s gameplay like these new claws.
Funcom needs to have stock strategy this year as the game can come to an abrupt end.
I have been playing since launch and as passionate about the game this is not what I want. I experienced the different stages that the game had, bugs, improvements etc … and in many of them we players have to adapt. But it is ridiculously clear that with the claws there is no need for adaptation. In my case I play on Ps4 so it is only necessary to press the R1 frantically and boom … pvp is over.
I appreciate and respect all functions in the game, collecting, farm, building, decoration, story, raids and of course pvp. But they all depend on whether you stay alive or have a chance to stay, and with the claws it is over.
You see, I started to die a lot for the opponents with the claws and decided to “adapt” and go to pvp with claws … result was that I started killing all my opponents just by pressing a button … I should be happy with that ? Those who died to my claws had no chance to roll, few got a few hits with the spear … the fun and challenge are over.
In my personal loot I have chests I don’t even use anymore with all the other weapons in the game … I said them all … and why waste time behind them? Why kill a boss for the legendary key and weapons? Why waste time in the renewed Nameless City behind gun fragments? Why go in the submerged dungeon behind Dagon’s weapons?
Now this is getting worse … no one else makes armor because they are useless against the claws … everyone is coming out naked and clawed for the clashes … and are they wrong? Wasting time behind armor master? To lose them to the claws? But I believe Funcom will review this as it did with Lifeblood spear and the Crom Sword … although getting these is much rarer than the claws …
I can go on but it’s fine … I haven’t even mentioned putting poison in the claws …
The 2 servers I play … emptied … of course not only by the presence of the claws but as I said at the beginning, every action taken or not taken from now on by Funcom will be crucial to the life of the game … .and the company still has 3 more dlcs to launch and sell.
Always hoping that this amazing game will continue to be amazing.
Looking at some previous PvP videos, where primary bombs and spear were used: The guys were also already running around semi-naked and killed all others…
And why not use the claws itself? This is what I dont understand in any reply… You dont want to adapt or? But even noobs can use claws… So why dont use them?
FC should remove the stamina/sprint abuse, because that is clearly a bug or unintended.
