Last night I decided I would try to earn my ‘Out Of Love’ badge. This is the pony in question:
So I went on a ‘like’ splurge in order to achieve this. A large amount of which were used on this thread: Pets IRL Im curious I used likes until the forum for the first time said something along the the lines of “you have few likes remaining”, then continued until the “you have no likes remaining, please wait a few more hours”. It is now the following evening, and I have not been awarded my ‘Out Of Love’ badge. Is there a reason why it was not awarded? Have I done something incorrectly?
@AndyB or @Ignasi, could either of you shed some light on this?
From my (growing) Discourse forum knowledge, badges that require a “count” are often granted after various automated back-end database jobs take place; give it a day or two (and keep sharing the love) and I suspect that you will wake up to the badge one morning.
The “likes” count is a rolling total.
If I use up 50 likes between 10:00 and 11:00, ~1 a minute for example, the first like I used at 10:01 will become available to reuse 24 hours later at 10:01 the next day. Not sure in terms of the trigger (the database trawl that awards the badge) that if that job runs at 10:02 and that like is counted as part of the previous day it wouldn’t treat you as 49 likes yesterday and 1 like for the day before?
I’m planning to look in more detail at the back end when I have more brain capacity. I’m currently not “my best self”, so I don’t really trust myself to dicker around in my installatioin without a lot of sleep first
I am a tottaly noob here, i don’t know how to check anything . Thank god i know how to type, or at least i think that i know . It is my first experience with social media and forums. I don’t have Facebook or Instagram, i want my peace and free time for gaming. This forum is my virginity . It’s more than enough
^ I think its this, I often have website open, and lets say watch tv and glance over and refresh time to time. Before I see little numbers pop in top right saying stuff happen.

Yes. You didn’t give those ‘likes’ out of love, but because you wanted a badge. The karma of the universe recognized this and decided you don’t deserve the badge.
Or was it your love of badges that motivated you? I think that should count, but apparently the universe disagrees. The universe can be a jerk sometimes.

edit: I see what I wasn’t doing. I have to reply to an email that I get sent as a reply to my post. For that to work, I have to have email notifications on. duh.
I suspected that you may be right as soon as I read your post; you seem to have a good mind for technical, and for understanding the workings of the forum. Surely enough I checked this morning and the badge has now been awarded.

You too…!? HAH! Same with myself. In fact I am pretty terrible with technology period. I initially just came to the forum to champion the argument for more Crom features. However, I realised it was such a great and constructive community, and I began to feel a great sense of satisfaction helping out other members (especially new players), so I decided to stay and keep helping. But I digress. So needless to say, it was a steep learning curve for me trying to use it. In fact I was pretty darn shocked when I won that Chosen of Asura award; many members provide really in-deepth technical solutions, whereas Ive always felt more like this this guy when using the forum…
You know as far as social media goes, I dont necessarily feel like we are missing out. When I tell people that I dont use it and never have, its surprising that the vast majority of them tell me (essentially) ‘thats good, youre better off without it. Its very gossipy and nasty’. But then I am baffled as to why people would continue to use something which is a source of stress or unhappiness in their lives. Its not that Im saying everyone should just quit; people should do whatever provides them satisfaction and joy. But I just dont get it.
