Funcom and mmo´s isn´t working. How will they provide support in Dune if they can´t even handle basic support in Conan Exiles. Every update a big pile of mess and Funcom takes weeks to provide a fix for even the smallest of bugs. They are not known for their creativity when it comes to pvp. Pvp in Conan Exile is a joke. A bug infested and abuse infested joke that aims to clear out servers. 6 years into Conan and not even offline protection says it all.
Also and that is my biggest issue with Dune is that their deccission to create this game as mmo is not what most survival fans nowadays expect from a good survival game. Coop play is the newest trend in gaming. People like to game in small groups, with family and friends. You must be a real mmo fan to like those kind of mass play.
Chinese players prefer mmo´s and grind and that seems the audience Tencent is aiming for.
I also expect Dune to become the next big “bazar” project for Tencent. And I am not willing to buy another Funcom/Tencent game with that kind of FOMO shop.
Hard agree here. The appeal of Conan is the sandbox element. If Dune ends up being a modless MMO with a Bazaar then there’s basically no reason to play it unless you don’t have a job.
I played their Perfect World set of games. Besides all the cat shops, each game had its own world. Yes, that is lonely from the brink.
The problem with their mmo’s is that they are all paid content (free to join). I don’t understand their* purpose other then monetization.
Their purpose being is CCP found itself making money off these cat shops, so now it just a matter of a gulping loot. I’m not sayin in the same direction.
I expect Dune to be better than those Perfect World mmo’s.
from what ive seen from the dune awakening development, conan exiles is a dead game. in 2-3 years from now the game will be left abandoned for good, and for the better…honestly a competent dev would be able to make something of CE but for the current devs the smart thing would be just to move on to another game . as for dune, i will not buy it in its alpha thats for sure, or any other game for that matter.
The only possible circumstance that would compel this one to participate in that game would be close friends asking for aid and then explicitly only to erase some pompous, hypocritical, narcissistic, wanna be theocrat of the cosmos Atreides from existence, thus improving the community by shoving one more ecclesiastically sponsored mass murder apologist back off the board.
I have loved the Dune universe since I read the books 30 years ago.
And I think Funcom may have made a decent game out of it - just as Funcom always did: Too high ambitions + not enough polish = games that I love and hate simultaneously.
But Dune is a Tencent product and there are no hopes whatsoever. It will be 90% monetization hellscape and 10% ex-Funcom-vibes. Just not worth it.
EDIT: You know, the crux is, that Funcom has all these old classic licenses, and with them come a lot of old classic gamers. I think, ironically they try to enforce all this new monetization stuff on the audience that is most aversed to it.
Dune is an extremely complex universe.
It is a very mature and sexual universe where the place of man and his role is highlighted.
To fully understand Dune you have to read all the opuses in the series and not be satisfied with the first book (and even less so the film).
Camping Dune solely based on the first opus will not allow neophyte players (public) to completely immerse themselves in the game due to lack of overall understanding of the title.
An MMO is in essence a game with enormous content, a game where developers must update regularly and correct all bugs and problems immediately.
■■■■■■ has showed his inability to be reactive, how can they believe that they could be on dune!?
Tencen is the owner of Funcom, look at what we do with Tower of Fantasy, an MMO where everything is hiding / bridher behind a paywall. He goes as much as all the Tencen Games.
Basically a MMO is cronophagus, it takes time to optimize your personality and thus be able to make the content of the games, the characters must be balanced and complementary, given the trend of Funcom has nerve their games, I doubt that they are successful make an acceptable dune.
To finish this long monologue, a surviving games must be a cooperative experience (we survive more than alone than only) Mutuality, complementarity must be the basis of a survival games.
Why PVP, simply for incited players to pay to win as Tencen does so well with their other MMOs.
Same for me, seing how they manage things on pvp server of conan, there is no way for me to jump on another game of fc untill i see something that made me think that what i have saw on conan will not repeat on dune.
Even if you DO have a job, the MMO model just doesn’t work. Or at least, it doesn’t for me. Playing some repetitive grind for no particular rewards is just plain… pointless.
Conan exiles works because its a sandbox. We can go where we want and build stuff we want, and we can buy cosmetics to use. We can be Creative even if there is some grind involved. The point is it isn’t ONLY that.
The MMOs of old are just dead to me. The whole design is abhorrent.
the game is obviously not made solely for the book readers dude, it would be too small of a market. the game is just another jump on the survival sandbox trend using the dune title to give it some depth and lore either because its easier than
creating an original story or just because they already have the rights.
why everyone thinks its gonna be an mmo? its obviously gonna be another sandbox survival.
anyways, as far as lore goes I trust in funcom to do justice to the title. in terms of gameplay though im pretty concerned.
So the chapters and ages with all the big game changing updates and addition of content was??? Our imaginations? You start off with lucidity like that and i can’t take anything else you say seriously.
Same can be said of any developmental companies games. I mean how is GTA 3 doing? What is # CoD up to now? Or, counter strike or Doom…
WoW hasn’t been a top ten game in a long time. In players or sales.
I’ve played good PVP games, Conan isn’t one.
We’ve been here before but I am opting for a simple warning. I was surprised talking in chat; when people weren’t wanting to string me up, the number of people that think it’s automated and sense they haven’t gotten a warning; like with thralls, they don’t think they are violating any rules.
Since you don’t get a “you can’t build here” notice it must be ok to build here. They think some one is either making false reports or hacking the system to get people banned. Because they didn’t get any warning about braking the rules.
Note other similar games have a land claim block.
tencent has no say so over what content funcom makes. They set up their/the standard system and it’s up to funcom to fill the pass/bazaar.
tencent has a long record of buying games, setting up the monetization, then let the game go in to maintenance mode, and just recycle they passes. They’re not going for long term players, they are going for a one - two year turn over of players.
After meeting a player with a full clan roster of ghosts so he could have 100 thralls, if you did a by the person count added to a clan, you end up with a lot of full ghost clans.
See above.
Depends on the price point, like to do a beta. If I realized small land was going to continue to be so claustrophobic, I wouldn’t have gotten it.
Stop right there.
Wish I could argue with that but I’m retired so
All games have a life span, no one is arguing with that fact. But Conan is still alive, kicking, growing and moving forward. So far from dead. You know tencents Ring of Elysium is still running? I loved it when it first hit, then tencent bought it, we got the battle pass, season thing, with new “events” every season. And we could count on the new season starting on time; as is. usually broke with events wrokingggg I got fed with the broken updates and the devs moving forward to fast to fix anything. They had to have new content ready for the next hard release date. I gave up on it. Thought it was long dead.
Nope, few hundred people still playing so servers are up, battle pass is recycling. The events are long over because the game is out of development.
Sound familiar?
Conan isn’t actually going to die.
Always love reading your posts.
From what I understand the game may not be very soloist friendly. Sounds like it’s pretty clan oriented.
The one thing funcom has going for them is their experience with sand.
MMOs lack cerebral gameplay, which is why so many people enjoy them. You can turn your brain off and get those wolf tails for 6 hours, or hunt skeletons. Other games are more focus-intensive, and that can be a turn off for someone who wants to just vibe for a bit.
That said, I really dislike MMO pay models and the gameplay of games like ESO bore me. Some MMOs are breaking away from tab combat and that’s great, but their core gameplay loop still boils down to the fetch/kill-quest model.
Tencent is Funcom’s publisher AND parent organization. They very much so have a say in what Funcom does. They literally own the studio.
I also agree that Conan isn’t a good PvP game. The actual fighting mechanics are usually fun (less so post-AoW), but the rest of it inhibits them. It’s more of a “Get offline raided by no-life players” simulator.
You clearly hadn’t played Final Fantasy 14 Réalm Reborn to say such things!!
Certainly there is farming but this is part of the accomplishment of trades which allows you to manufacture items for yourself, your guild or for sale at the market.
The essence of the games are the dungeons, raids and other instances which can only be done with several players (from 4 players for the dungeons to 48 for the big raids).
pretending that you just have to unplug your brain to play, especially in dungeons/ raid is completely stupid.
you had to have a minimum of skill and constantly think about your actions and your position.
You had to be concentrated throughout the instance at the risk of wippus (no error has forgiven) and when you spend several hours on a single raid, falling as a result of errors is frustrating (moreover if you are the cause of Wipp en series, more people want to play with you).
Not only should you operate your brains, but in addition definitely question yourself.
Basically tencent gives funcom a jug of water and says “sell kool-aid”. What flavor and the amount of sugar is up to funcom, tencent doesn’t care as long as the kool-aid sells.
