I’ve tried to post this twice already. Apparently, the forum moderators just want us to suffer and not be “Players Helping Players” because any attempt at discussing building techniques is considered an “exploit” under their new rules and will get my post removed. The first post linked to a youtube video that has some excellent techniques by smskcntr and had a couple of screenshots. It was unlisted within 1 minute of posting with no explanation provided. I had to message the mod who unlisted it to find out why it was removed.
The second post specifically said no circumventing the ban of fence stacking and to post some building techniques you use instead. That was unlisted while I slept overnight, again, with no explanation.
So I’m at my wits end here trying to get some build ideas on how to build a good looking PVP base. Does anyone have any build ideas that won’t piss off the moderators?
We’re sorry you might have missed our explanation. We’ll paste it here again to make sure to reach you:
"Unfortunately, circumventing the stacking fix with other means to achieve the same goal is still exploiting the intended mechanic of the game. Therefore, your post advertising workarounds was unlisted.
Please understand that any form of stacking of building pieces, placeables, and even having a huge amount of pets and thralls on the same area, affects the official server’s performance negatively.
We are just trying to provide the best service to as many people as possible."
The second post did not discuss any circumventions, though. It was simply about how to build a defensible base. I even went on to say that any discussions of such circumventions wouldn’t be allowed. Are we not allowed to build?
If I’m understanding these rules correctly, that means that any and all buildings in PVP are to be at the mercy of bombs because we’re not allowed to put any extra layers of protection between our stuff and the raiders. We can’t build large structures because “the servers can’t handle it” but we can’t build compact structures because it’s an “exploit” and “the servers can’t handle it”
So what are we supposed to do? It sounds like Funcom, and by extension you, the moderator, are saying that the server stability is OUR responsibility as players to manage, and not Funcom’s responsibility as the service provider of the game that we paid money for. The solution to this issue would be to upgrade the servers so something that can handle the stress of buildings like the one in the trailer, no?
The devs know that offlining is going to be super easy now, and really don’t care tbh. PvPers , the only way to not stress about losing stuff when you take some social time off during the week is to Uninstall the game. period. They will never do or even attempt to help us (pvp raid community)
To add to my previous post: Funcom just reported one of their most successful years ever. Shouldn’t some of that profit be used to upgrade their assets, specifically the servers, to bring in more players and more money?
Not to speak for @Caroll but it seems as if they are saying what I would inevitably chime in about: this isn’t the place to talk about exploits.
I’m not saying that’s what you intended, I just know that these sorts of discussions can stray that way.
For all intents and purposes, just for the record, the current “way to build” on PvP is to cover everything with a mass of honeycomb and roof pieces. It looks ghastly and probably grinds any chunk to a halt.
Personally I’d like to see honest suggestions, and I’m grateful you opened this thread, @Rekt.
The only real defense now to follow funcom guidelines is to vault spam a base. A long tube of a base with vault windows. The less annoying defense compare to others. This will prevent big bases and stacking and HAVE PURPOSE.
Kinda defeat the purpose on raiding a nice looking base. We are going to see vaults everywhere.
What if that was just the bottom layer to a castle? Like, the “Rats Nest” build would be catacombs beneath the castle itself. I can see some really cool ideas coming out of that too. Like Flotsam/sandstone ceilings over t3 player traps (1x1 walls with fences on top) that, when blown up, drop the players into certain death. I’m sure there’s ways to make the tube (THE INTERNET IS A SERIES OF TUBES) base look good.
OOOOH I JUST HAD A THOUGHT: Putting the bomb traps in the player holes. Break the ceiling over a dummy chest, drop into a player trap, BOOM and you’re stuck, injured, and very much not having a good raid this time
No stacking, and none needed! It looks to be about the same as one of my current PVP bases, basically the same equipment, about the same number of parts and placeables, etc. I’m not using horizontal elevators tho.
From experience, those traps and pits are great for casual raiders. You’ll get feedback in the chat about how they almost pooped their pants and would like their stuffs back if possible. The raiders that count keep one finger on the Tab key and will bomb everything that looks suss. Since there’s no proximity requirement for bomb jars, they can be placed at quite a safe distance.
If you are into feint bases, if you build a 6x6 or 6x5 minimum to fit a vault, FIRST place an outer layer of T3 Walls, then place the square ring of foundations. Distant enemies will think your vault is simply encased in walls, which may draw their fire.
" Please understand that any form of stacking of building pieces, placeables, and even having a huge amount of pets and thralls on the same area, affects the official server’s performance negatively."
That’s the players problem how? If the game is allowing people to do that they will do it. You build a base of course players are going to fill it with pets/thralls. a 10 man clan on officials can have 200 thralls/pets.
You think people aren’t going to do that?
If you truly are trying to provide the best service as possible then get better servers so people can actually enjoy your game without being in fear of getting hurrdurr dev wiped and banned.
Pretty much. It’s their own fault for having such awful official servers yet they want to act like it has nothing to do with it and go straight for blaming players who build large bases, stacking fences, having large amounts of thralls/pets.
Fish traps are utterly useless now all for server performance “well if we make fish traps useless and no longer afk ichor players won’t use them and therefor won’t lag server hurhurhur”
Soon stacking chests on top of each other will be illegal
Not sure of all the ways myself. So far I’ve just made sure the two ends (start and end target) were in line and of the same build offshoot. Then just stand at one end and point to the other and it goes right down in place.
