Yeah that works too. Just doesn’t seem reasonable to play a game in a persistent world and expect to keep your progress when you aren’t playing for long periods. Especially in PVP where it can cause real problems.
a wipe will not fix the problem, it will only postpone it to a later point in time. a wipe therefore has a very low priority (if it has any priority at all), in addition to the effects it has on normal players, since it does not help to solve the problem.
a wipe will definitely not happen, even if one ignores the statements made by funcom several times: there will only be a wipe if there are technical reasons for it. So incompatible changes that cannot be remedied with a simple reset of the attributes and feats.
for the “body vaulting” issue, I suspect deeper issues. the problem has existed for so long that it was actually enough time to fix it. so it’s either really intentional (I doubt it) or the fix is so expensive that it’s regularly de-prioritized against other problems. however, a wipe is really no solution to this problem.
wipe officials for 3.0 or riot
The time when such a thing could have been more fairly implemented has come and gone.
The merge-apocalypse was the best time to do a wipe of such a thing was going to happen.
Instead of a clean and fair slate for all players on officials, Funcom opted to put a full screw job to an apparent minority. If they wouldn’t clean slate when they were already wiping whole servers, this one sincerely doubts they will do so for a new update.
A full wipe after the selective wipe before would be ruinous to the existing player base on officials.
Those who were spared previously (a select number of whom have enjoyed gloating about it while taunting less fortunate players) would likely full quit with a similar if not modestly smaller rate than those who had been on wiped servers in the last round.
Those then going through their second wipe would probably be a touch more resilient to such things, if they chose to stay on officials after that debacle. So only moderate hemorrhage from that group.
If they add new servers for the new update (which this one almost expects not unlike when Siptah launched) it would possibly behoove them to make those temporary or periodic wipe servers, noted upfront.
TLDR; The partial wipe didn’t make many friends, a full wipe is not going to help the health of an already beleaguered player base.
If your new player, and or coming back… and wanting players to lose there years of work to have fair chance…
Join a Empty Server or a New one instead. >_>
Zero reason for a wipe. I get argument for it, I do. Returning Player/New Player have Options that Don’t effect long time players.
Also, CE has been … nerf’d? It takes very little to Level to Cap, or even farm some of the things.
If this was start of Year 1 before Multi-Exp changes.
I think side fix for 3.0 is some new cleaned out server, with no transfers to them. So everyone is New.
BUT…again. Anyone not familer with game is gonna have hard time versus someone who know how get lv60 in record time.
Expect one either way…
(if this thread is anything to go by
)
I can see this with one slight difference in that all of the official PvP servers with little to no structures on them be wiped and all characters assigned to these to servers be treated as if they died and spawned upon login of an existing player to one of the beginning starting areas (maybe give a choice of starting point or not) naked and with an empty inventory retaining levels, stats, and feats.
Yes please they need to take out al the duped stuff, I’m also talking about years of duping and old items that can’t even be used probably making the game lagg and optimizations horrible, also unbanning all the accounts to start with a clean slate and make. Players come back
Suggesting you rent a server and implement this for yourself and leave the rest of us alone.
We’ve been through similar, if not as large updates, in the past. Penalizing players for a longevity of involvement is a poor business model.
Source?
Then, if no harm would be done there is nothing to stand in the way to it being done.
99.999999% of the player base would not be affected by Funcom deleting your account, but I am thinking that would be objectionable to you.
Advocating for penalizing players because you don’t like their progress is certainly a choice.
I just think it’s going to be difficult to get new players invested in Conan when the old players are literally stalking them by the time they ever get out of the spawn desert.
I start a new character - usually on a new server, about every two months and have done so for about 16 to 18 months. How come I have never experienced any of the things you’re talking about. I’m spread around over Chinese, Japanese, US, and even EU/AUS servers so it’s not likely a regional or cultural disposition that is to blame for players acting like you’re describing. I think there just must be a select few (very few) servers populated by those sorts of people (I’m taking your word for it that this is even true at all). If you or others are on one or more of such servers then I suppose the points you’re making might be (might be) considered reasonable.
To me they in no way, are!
ALL of the PvP servers I’ve played on are populated by some of the most generous and considerate people one could imagine. Almost all clans will (at least) leave noobs alone to grow and become strong enough to initiate the first major challenge and very often (at most) offer to help them out and give them some kick-starter gear and/or tips. It’s always been the case in my experience that if an “alpha-clan” starts picking on n00bs as you suggest is common, they will have a really hard time maintaining a presence on that particular server.
For PvE it just doesn’t matter… You and your clan are playing against the environment and not other players. Resources are distributed on the map evenly and generously enough that there is literally no competition. You’re playing for the sheer joy of adventure and discovery. It’s not possible for it to matter that one clan as transferred goods that another may not have.
Thus, in short: NOPE! Terrible idea!!!
If you wanna take away everyone else’s progress and achievement then start a private server and do that - but please do not suggest FC do that to everyone just because you think so. To me you’re thinking on this matter is just plain wrong.
I can say in my expirience, ive only been hounded out the door from the start 1 time, since launch, we couldnt even make a lvl 60 gear set raids were so frequent and so many people in number, we couldnt keep restarting. I agree with you on this for sure, shouldnt let one or two bad expiriences ruins the game for you.
EDIT: This was a one clan server where everyone on it belonged to one clan except ours of course
@TeleTesselator yeah I sometimes think people worry too much about what could theoretically happen, and assume the worst of PVP players (not unreasonably perhaps
).
I’ve played on fewer servers than you have, but quite a few in my time and I’ve also never seen this systematic hunting of new players people talk about. I suspect it’s a myth, or very rare and localised like you said.
Yeah I’ve been attacked by established players as a new naked character a couple of times, but uh… that’s why I’m there right? No real harm done. And I’ve not generally seen people being raided unless they have T3 structures or are level 60.
I hard reset my server frequently. Part of the fun is the journey. There’s not much to do when you’ve done it all already.
Source? How about all the players saying they would play if Sorcery came out and players returning since Sorcery is coming with this update. And incase you want to say source again, google it.
99.999999% of the player base would not be affected by Funcom deleting your account, but I am thinking that would be objectionable to you.
Advocating for penalizing players because you don’t like their progress is certainly a choice.
Apples and Oranges. Accounts =/= a character on a server. Didn’t say I didn’t like their progress , I raised the issue of duping and body vaulting duped items.
The fact that they said this from the begining maybe? The fact that many of us like myself will not play a game with regular wipes for a reason…
Saying source? All the time is usually a tactic to try curb an arguement, it would be relevent if it was actually to learn, but it hasnt been this way since this reply was popular like 10 years ago. And at that noone should have to do all the work for you… if your genuinely curious, look it up. Not trying to be offensive, but that is literally the laziest ploy of all time to the point im shocked it worked on the avg person for as few years as it did, and im seeing it again.
Hoping that 1 year later with the release of 3.0 they will finally fix this.
Because this unpalyable on Officials everyone has this “fly base”…
@Usernameextra I have a personal rule never to cite sources in internet arguments. Sources are for academic papers. Plus I’ve learned from experience that if someone doesn’t agree with you, they probably won’t agree with any source you present either ![]()
This is very true, 9/10 times i wont cite either… but on an occasional time id put everything out there if i was pushed to it, and sometimes this shoots me in the foot because alot of people dont always like hearing the truth, especially about a game were here for( not saying i harbor resentment, or that its about this game) usually if im in constantly sending replys, its because i know i can if i have to use the nuclear option, i just try not to do it because it makes me look like a di ck, and as you said you cant tell someone anything when they dont want to hear it.
