I still stand by the idea of one server. Your character selection dictates how you play in that server. Are you PVP, PVE-C or PVE? It opens you up to being attacked and to attack others but everyone lives in the same server environment and forces sides to actually play together and stop the stupid segregation.
so what I have learned from this absolute tome of a post, beyond combat balancing is not and would not ever be done for PVE (apparently lifeblood spears healing for the equivelent of a concentrated aloe potion or a golden lotus potion in that era is perfectly balanced in PVE) , is that yes you are bitter, you have your reasons, but you are the one infact being silenced, the true victim and you wont stay silent!.
Any single issue a PVPer raises 10 pve’rs who dominate the forums and dogpile with “what about me, all are done for you! changes effect me!”, here we are talking about hitboxes and gates of all things so while I have not personally told any PVE’rs to shutup and butt out, that is a sentiment I can increasingly understand.
To put it more succinctly: if discussing suggestions on the forums like adults is too much for any of you, that’s your own fault and no one else’s.
good words, try following them
Dude, the vast majority of the game is PvE. Any PvP player is already PvE, that’s why the pushback is one-way. You can’t tell me I don’t know PvE, that’s what I’ve been doing for 99.5% of the last 5 years.
Continuing to bury this trope in a long post will not make it go unnoticed. You have your position, somehow, but it’s not logical.
This sort of Nemedian DLC-based imbalance affects PvP, and the raiding therein. I don’t think it’ll get fixed without a Bug Report. Importantly, this sort of exploit would take about an hour to document, with a video, and possibly a narration. I suspect this is why there’s not Bug Report on it.
No, PVP players are not “already PVE”. If they were PVE, they would be playing PVE. They’re playing PVP for a reason.
I already explained that position and why it’s logical:
Continuing to ignore it is not going to make it go away, and it’s not going to make the “PVP is already PVE” trope true.
Yes, I agree. In fact, I agreed with that, and I agreed that Testerle’s derailment of the thread into “PVP vs PVE” was wrong, and I even flagged some of the off-topic stuff. I’m not against you on any of these counts.
In fact, I agree with you on most counts, and the only two things I vehemently disagree with are “PVP players know just as well as PVE players how changes impact PVE” and “group X should not be allowed to speak their opinion on topic Y” (for any CE-related choice of X and Y).
Would it? It seems to me like it would be enough to open a bug report post, explain that Nemedian DLC allows protecting your base in ways other building materials don’t, and attach the pictures Hoppsy posted earlier.
What am I missing?
what aspects of PVE do pvpers miss out on? we dungeon run, farm, build, even socially interact is quite typical XD.
This is sometimes not working, because they can’t comprehend the effects of some things because they do not play <!gamemode XYZ!>. And if you ask them out, they straight up deny.
PvP is people fighting each other on top of the PvE elements. All I did for 10 months was play Vanilla Conan Exiles, while I waited in vain for someone to unseat me. To me, and everyone I know in PvP, this is simply a mode of play of the base (PvE) game. ![]()
Several private discussions, including one here via DM.
It actually is. In order to do PvP you have to do some PvE content.
PvE is basically a subset of PvP. See: Subset - Wikipedia
Unless you can tell me at least 1 thing that a PvE player is doing but a PvP player does not.
I as a PVE-er am VERY sympathetic to these arguments actually. A game should be fun for every play mode. As you say, as long as everyone makes an honest attempt to look at it thru the others eyes, it need not be so contentious. “Not fun and here’s why and what I would change and how it can help everyone” is the best medicine.
I mean, I already explained that our motivations as players are different and that our ultimate payoff is different, but sure, I can point out at least 1 thing PVE players do that differs from PVP players.
Take a stroll through the Share Your Shelter thread and look at some of the most creative builds there. Is this how PVP players build typically? Will you sacrifice security for aesthetics?
The point I’ve been making is that those who choose PVE servers do so because they want to have fun with PVE content, rather than considering PVE content as a means to have fun in PVP.
This is not a binary thing. It’s not “either…or”. There’s nothing stopping you from having one character on a PVP server and another on PVE, enjoying both, and understanding both.
But the premise that “someone who only plays on PVP servers automatically knows what’s best for those who only play on PVE servers” is false, because the game is more than just the sum of its parts. Yes, the set of parts available on PVP servers is a superset of parts available on PVE servers, but the players’ motivations are different.
I mean, I’ve seen PVP players say things like “PVE is easy anyway, it doesn’t matter how the changes affect it”, and if that doesn’t show they don’t understand PVE players, nothing does. ![]()
I get that. My only advice at that point is to agree to disagree with those people and move on. If your words are true and you have conveyed them effectively, a few unreasonable dissenters won’t tarnesh your message. Filling a thread with useless arguments will assuredly.
I’m sorry but that simply isn’t true. I have been loath to show off my builds because they’re not glorious. But they are beautiful and creative. I build on PvP because I want people to think I’m (sorry) a PvE Stan who can’t fight. My nice big floofy castles were there to draw fire, and it was effective.
You’re not making this point. You’re saying it, and you’re repeating it. Doesn’t make it true. PvP players all acquiesce to the PvE stuff when the fighting is slim. I’ve seen more players leave because they ran out of stuff to do than ones who’ve been bombed into submission. By about 4:1.
There’s nothing else to do, often, but build. The new DLCs really help with that, and sadly, I never got a chance to really dig my hands into Nemedian. I was already pretty much overbuilt as it was.
Once you’ve built your main base securely, what’s preventing a player on a PvP server to build aesthetic buildings as well? Btw often used as decoy bases or even loot stashes, because some are not bothering to raid those because they think it’s purely aesthetic.
Seen plenty of builds sacrificing security for aesthetics, smart builds too that the aesthetics themselves become the security.
I have seen amazing arenas, hippodromes, Castles, even an xmas tree.
People left presents for new players under it by the sinkhole, official pvp XD
Playing PVE doesn’t make you a good architect and I could login to any PVE server to prove that.
I want to have fun with PVE content too, I probably do more PVE content than an average PVEr, hell I am running jhebbal sag right now, and you know one of my goals on official PVP right now? I want to collect all the Lore notes.
Sure I can fight, I can raid, I can rain down destruction and I have, my motivations have consistently changed, I played forced RP pvp as a dafari cannibal clan on official where we created strict in character rules and wore only aesthetic pvp gear and stayed strictly in character we smashed and dominated and had fun doing it “WE WILL EAT YOUR FLESH xd” .
this weird discription where PVPers are monoliths and their motivations are a known quantity is bizarre, I have met so many varied people playing on pvp servers, from zergers, to people that want to dominate, to those that just want to build and occasionally pvp, diplomat super friends players, great alliance holders.
I’m a builder first, a farmer second, a raider at a distant third, and a pvper in dead last. My PVP builds are built for defense first, but maintain an aesthetic quality. I can’t stand boring boxes and (now that fence stacking is gone) Vault spam for no reason other than to have vaults. I like my PVP bases to have RP rooms like taverns or reading rooms. If someone blows into them, they can wreak absolute havoc in my pretty portions. Once they get to the core, though… That’s when it gets real.
Other PVPers build differently, and I respect them too. Big cubes can be imposing in their own right, and I’ve seen one clan a while back that played as nomads. Little sandstone camps dotted around the map with a couple of boxes in each one, and a small horde of horses. They would roam the desert and highlands, taking potshots at anything that moved like true mongolian archers. They were a hoot and a half. And with no central base, they could bounce back every time someone took them on. I miss those guys
Ah actually yeah…I do. 98% of my time is PVE stuff of exploring/scoutin, dungeon crawling, building, and grinding mats. It’s gotten to be that I just leave my character spec’d to this and bestial memory if I know I’m going into the thick of it vs the other way around.
Without the PVP aspect, there would be no reason to scout out different base locations as where i land initially is where i will stay and the materials collected without fear of loss keeps me in the same place. I tire and within 4 months, I realize I’m only logging in to reset timers.
I would agree if they remove the verbiage of DLC’s are cosmetic only. I don’t have a problem with vision changing but they just have to actually say they are changing.
Or simply add the term “largely cosmetic” ![]()
So I had this huge clever post written, with quotes from CodeMage and Barnes, and a bit about agreeing to disagree. But I don’t feel like it would have achieved anything.
@erjoh and @anon83039162, I’m in your “being in tribes is bad for all of us” tribe, for what it’s worth. Oh and @AxeIsAnnoying I don’t really think you’re annoying, I like your posts. I was just trying to be funny and I hope it came across that way.
This. This is what happens when you make charisma potions.
