@Umborls, @Caroll do you guys have any reason to think this would be a bad idea or not feasible? Population seems very low on official severs. This could spark many players to play again and new players to experience pvp especially when most new players don’t get that chance. It’s a lot less dev intervention required imo.
The way i see it it’s more like you are the only one putting the effort in saying that’s a bad idea. Are you scared of loosing your home that mutch ? if Funcom add servers they won’t destroy the one you play in you know xD
Funcom could disappear today and all their servers deleted and the servers I play on would be unaffected. My preferences to where players play is irrelevant and unrelated to the points I’ve made.
I personally play on servers that wipe on a consistent basis as well as those who never wipe. My personal belief, since you’re so damned fascinated with it, is that they probably should wipe all servers PVE and PVP every 3-6 months minimum.
But I’m not in the business to tell them how to run their servers or to what demographic of player they wish to cater to. They’ve chosen to host wipeless servers, and have done so for four years. Pointing out that fact shouldn’t be construed as supporting, endorsing, or afraid of anything. That’s foolish thing many of you do every day.
Dynamic Building Damaged would solve 24/7 burnout. Your clan is offline cant be raided. But would make it pvp whenever players were on all the time.
My Sherlock hat went on, and I deduce therefore that you indeed play on whype-style servers. What’s your population, and does it sustain itself? This would be helpful to know, if we are actually spitballing about Official Blitz. (I hate the name blitz, wish they’d use the word Havoc instead.)
Another nice thing is you won’t see people “abusing” dbd because there’s no benefit to hiding offline.
While this one very much likes the idea, the golden time for them would have been during the merge-pocalypse last year.
Moving forward, if they have another shuffle, this one would like to see routine wipe officials.
Especially as Funcom has repeatedly told us Officials are not supposed to be the full game experience, but rather introductory.
When servers were merged at least they came out with sever transfers to spice things up. Now it’s a bit stale on official servers. I’m not trying to play the world’s smallest violin here but official are looking pretty empty. Adding a couple severs per timezone on each platform seems pretty realistic.
Yes at the very least every year
This comes up on the forums every once in awhile. And I always have to ask…
Why don’t you just join a private server with monthly wipes if you think it will be so fun?
Private admin abuse and servers can disappear without warning are a couple of reasons.
Technically it’s probably not abuse as they paid for the server and usually everyone else jumps on for free but i think that you get what i mean.
Try one of the 4+ year servers. They’ve proven to last longer than some official servers, and admin abuse doesn’t mix with longevity.
It’s been touched on a few times and I mentioned it in the op. Other than the reasons @XninjaPIX pointed out. New players almost always go to official or single player it’s just the way it is. So if another “softer” option is thrown in the mix it could be beneficial for retaining players. They can join and get a good taste of the game. Most of all they can experience this game’s excellent combat a lot faster then just building up on a mostly dead server only to just get offlined. I’d say a good chunk of new players leave after that experience. I talked about the lack of privates period on console versions of the game. No offense but I’ve seen friends try and open one only to have it remain dead even after advertising it. A lot of players just enjoy official because it is set in stone with no admin/rules other than croms sometimes heavy hand. As was stated the abuse issue has tainted a lot of players away from privates and I’m sure there are some good ones out there but the damaged has been done. I’ll probably think of more reasons.
I don’t know about that… personally I have a feeling the people who spread that rumor actually never played on private servers / or played on a single bad one then proceeded to spread rumors.
I see a lot of server admins actually putting in a decent effort to try and make things work and keep things fair and typically the only admin action they take is banning players who don’t respect the rules (much like what players are asking Funcom to do on official servers), and other than that they never even log in as admin and are just regular players like the rest.
Now ofc there’s always gonna be the random kid who buys a server just so they can mess with people joining there, but those servers generally won’t win any popularity contests ![]()
(Edit: I would like to point out that I am sure the phenomenon is more common on full pvp servers though simply because the ability of people to piss off other people way more, however I’m also sure there are good servers out there for that scenario as well)
In any case, that’s my opinion that this is more of a “boogeyman” / excuse that people tell themselves in order to keep themselves from actually trying to play on those servers
even though there’s a lot of quality of life to be had with mods in the picture.
Of course this is all offtopic and doesn’t add or remove from the current suggestion in this thread.
Not a rumour, I’ve experienced it every single time I’ve joined a private PVP server. I was privy to a discord channel at one point that was dedicated to documenting admin abuse and favouritism. Pretty thorough and shed a lot of light of the gaslighting by these admins to justify their abuse. “Well its my cousin/friend/grandma”.
You’re right, not ALL private servers have this issue. There’s one I know of that is very well maintained but I simply do not want to join it because I’m not interested in mods. I like the flavour of true vanilla for Conan.
The other problem is pay to win servers with paragraphs of inane rules. Or limit to this, no mounts that, no gods as well. Like c’mon XD
I haven’t seen a truly dedicated private server that meets vanilla yet without admin abuse or risk it will suddenly disappear.
Anyway, been watching this thread with interest. Not entirely sure yet on my stance but I think the suggestions have viability.
I’ve played on probably 15 throughout my playtime so I’m not spreading any rumors. It’s just the experience I’ve had along with many others. I’m not saying there aren’t good ones out there but regardless the issue does exist.
Yup this thread is not about private severs and very clearly says in the op what the issues are.
Yea like I said I can see it happening “more often” on PvP servers, since players have a very different mentality often times because of the potential annoyances.
There is however another side to this, that is if you’re already asking for periodic server wipes then it means you pretty much have the perfect mindset and playstyle to experiment with such servers. Basically if you don’t mind being wiped every few months anyway, then similarly you have nothing to lose by experimenting with a private server and if you notice admin abuse then you can just start over on a different one, essentially using one of those wipes to jump ship and try somewhere else till you find what you’re looking for ![]()
Edit: my reply was just a continuation to @Kikigirl 's post, we just posted at the same time
Again this is not about private severs. Feel free to make a thread about how good private severs can be but it’s really not the point here.
Because for pvp, many have experienced worse admin/owners than FC officials. Usually it is because the admins and ownwrs play under alts, as if that will make it impossible to not use admin commands… Just a reality, that and major favoritism to older lplayers on thier servers.
OK, I understand admin abuse as a reason.
But servers disappearing without warning? Is that really a problem when we’re talking about Mayhem servers that wipe every month anyway?
I think with any wipe you need to know when it is going to happen. My experience included making enough dragon powder to wipe it myself
only for the server to disappear.
