Usually when I hear someone say they have a problem time after time again on about 10+ servers. I think of the common denominator in all those situations might actually be the issue.
Now I’m not going to be so facetious and say that he is a problem player and shouldn’t play multiplayer entirely. I’m actually going to be honest from a situation I had personally with one of these types of player.
A couple of years ago, when I still playing CE without mods. I was on a PVP server that was quite popular. We’re talking about 50-70 players online during its primetime, and even during its off hours still boasted about 20 people. There was always something going on.
Admins were pretty good. Very good at being impartial and just keeping everyone happy and everything tidy. It was a tight ship. They noticed I was a bit more chatty with people and asked if I wanted to help admin. So I did. Things ran well for a few months, but some RL issues came up and the server had to be closed up.
We decided to play on another server, and this is when Dr Jekyl turned into Mr Hyde. They were always complaining about the rules, getting into personal conflicts with fellow players, and getting into confrontations with the admins. The server in question is still going 4 years later and is even more popular than it was then. Not only that but I had played on it a few times before this and knew they were fine. I just couldn’t understand the difference my friend had.
Long story short, they did some things that got themselves banned, and it put me in a very bad situation that thankfully the admins and the owner of the server understood and helped me relocate for the rest of that season. Because of some other stuff this guy wanted to do, I decided to end our friendship and cut contact with them.
What I found interesting is the fact that they had trouble on other servers prior to starting their own initially. Their story about how the server had this problem or that problem sounded plausible. And believable concerning his conduct as an admin. But after seeing how they operate on another person’s server it became clear that they were likely the issue prior to hosting their own.
So when I do suggest someone to make their own server, I am not being flippant about it. I’m being genuine. Some people just can’t abide by others’ rules. They need their own and are quite capable of running a tight ship that people can enjoy.
Except it is now. Because official blitz servers were tried and failed. There wasn’t enough interest. When this happens you need to prove that circumstances have changed.
I speak from experience. There’s been times in the past where FC decided to go a certain route that I didn’t agree with. So I made a mod to adjust things to where I thought they should be. People tried it and agreed. It helped build momentum and then things changed. I don’t take sole responsibility for such changes but I do believe I got the ball rolling.
If you truly do think a blitz server will work, try starting one up, get the other half dozen in this thread who kinda agree with you (you all should trust each other enough, you can even choose them to be admins and you guys can police each other, admin commands are logged), and start one up. You get the opportunity to test all the values you think FC should do as well, such as harvest rates, dynamic building damage and so forth.
If you get the server to be popular, you can post the results and FC will see what kind of service they could be offering. If they turn it down, you still have a popular server to play on. You all literally have nothing to lose. You can host it through a non-Gportal provider or if you’re not willing to pay, then I’m sure at least one of you has a computer laying around and a decent internet connection to host a 40 man server.
Funcom believes blitz is a failed endeavor. If its not, then they have to be proven wrong.
