I enjoy playing on official servers as they are official
But having come back and scoping out the servers I am finding that they are either populated and have big clans that are basically land claiming everything making it impossible to build…
Or having gone back to my old servers that they big clans left but keep logging back in to reclaim everything they have laid out which is basically the whole map making it impossible to build…
Obelisks are walled off and I mean legitly walled off you cant get out and your locked in…
One of the new dungeons has a wall around it as well next to the obelisk…
My thing is… has there been any word at all about either a set time to wipe servers say every 6 months or every 12 months… but something so that everyone can start on the same page?
As of right now there is kinda no point… at least for me to invest in dlc’s or anything since I cant even build anything…
I get it that some clans are big and have 15 or more people and they build build build… but the toxicity of blocking off obelisks and claiming large amounts of land… walling off whole halves of the map…
This is a sign that the servers need to be wiped at some point… there needs to be a timefram in place I would think to stop this… otherwise most of the servers are simply just gone and unplayable…
So is there anything at all thats planned or anything that was mentioned about official server wipes?
A wipe every 3 months at each Equinox will be fine.
It is not hard to start from the beginning, i did it every fews weeks when I swith server.
By playing 4 hours on evening, in less than a week you are setup :
day 1 explore the map (exept cold and volcano), medium armor, iron tools and weapons.
day 2 small base near sepermeru, wheel + map, get a bearer 3, steel tool and weapons, create real base at a good location + map. Get level 2 or 3 thralls.
day 3 wheel at mounds + map, get a fighter 4, hard steel tools and weapons. Get level 2 or 3 thralls.
day 4 star metals tools, get recipes, dragon bone weapons, upgrade all in T3.
day 5 craft bombs and arrows, explore all the map, buils maps.
day 6 ready to raid, then you will get all level 4 thralls
I’m all for it but dont hold your breath. The path appears to be to join or host/rent your own private server with people you trust. I dont see wipes ever being a thing.
Wipes are typically needed when the database is corrupted or just convoluted.
With decay, its not needed for cleaning up maps.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t they try seasonal servers and found nobody played on them? At least not the official ones. People don’t tend to like wipes.
A big factor was the absence of Gods. On PC, i hear they returned, but have not seen if they help. Use to be, if you built too big on PVP officials, players would God it. jow, thow, block off brimstone, then farm steel in the Mounds, and you can T3 5 times faster than a clan can create bombs.
Im not sure that I would be in favor of regularly scheduled Server Wipes.
If I knew everything I did would be erased in ■■■ days, I dont think I would be as motivated to make the personal investment of time that I do currently.
It makes no sense to wipe a server to get players at an even setting. I’ve done thousands of block builds within 48 hours after a wipe on a 1x unmodded PVP server. We literally had clans quit because they looked at our base and noped out because they felt they couldn’t compete.
The only reason to wipe is to clean the database of errors and data corruption that can’t be fixed through SQL cleanup. In which case you literally have no choice but to wipe or rollback.
There in lies the problem, even the “abandoned” ones have refreshers who may just be taking a break hoping for a population resurgence. Who decides they aren’t as important as populated over built servers?
on my server which is pvp… obelisks are blocked off and the warmaker dungeon is blocked off…
So I mean I guess some people dont like server wipes and thats fine… but when you experience something like this its kinda a dissapointment…
I could switch servers but I feel like I would be doing that over and over again… I dont mind getting raided and my base destroyed but I worked hard leveling my guy up and learning recipe’s and I have leveled up 4 times prior…
I dont enjoy leveling much after I have spent so much time doing it already… I just feel there has to be a better way to deal with things like this
No need to. Purges and decay take care of things. If people are solely logging in to refresh, it means you have a 6 day window to raid them. Wipe them.
Just an example…I recently decided to find a dead server so I can play less and still build up to level 60 for pvp if the server picked up. Surprisingly, out of the 8-10 different ones i started to level on, within 15-20 minutes every time, a level 60 would log in. Then 3-4 of the clan mates if it was raid time. No one else. Tested over 3 or 4 days on these same servers, and it was the same, log in, the Dead Server Alphas??? would log in. Which means they will wipe me if i even try to start building up. So what appears dead is not, going back to who gets to decide whose stuff is more important if they just change a few servers? I personally think that all (PVP for sure) need to have decay times on every item, including those stored in preserve boxes (old school preserve only multiplied the decay x 10). This attached with cost to maintain large claim areas would remove both over building by inactive players, and also remove the bird dogging to keep others from even getting started.
There have been players on servers since before the start day. You wipe those servers and FUncom will lose half its players. The servers are self cleaning.
Servers are not self cleaning lol… not if people are refreshing…
Also purges solve nothing… they have an active player that comes on and keeps things fresh… even if they get a purge… that purge could happen at any one of there zillion foundations they have landscaping the map that are all connected by a long strand of foundations…
Literally log in one spot and you have refreshed everything since its all connected…
honestly its fine… again your dealing with people who have blocked obelisks and dungeons… everyone here is saying that they would quit or they would lose half there player base if they did that lol but they wouldnt… I promise you no one would quit…
As of right now its fine right… there not gonna server wipe anything so the servers which have high amounts of griefing land claim and blocking off obelisks and dugeons will get to stay there like you guys want…
But there are those of us that actually want the game to be enjoyable for everyone… I am trying to find middle ground here… no one else seems interested aside from a few that have said so
We don’t have an issue with walled off obelisks or dungeons on the PVE server I play on. If there was a server wipe, all it would do is make me get a private server and forgo public servers entirely.
It may not be difficult to start over, but that’s not the game I play. I like building, so I build. Others on my server like building, but not in an aggressive manner to despawn bosses, block travel or world bosses, or spite, as a rule.
When that happens, as it inevitably does, we report the player and let the process take it’s course, then collect the resources from the bases when they decay.
Perhaps the answer is for Funcom to stand up servers which will be wiped and let players who want that environment to play in it.
Everyone is still going on about foundation spam like a wipe would clean it up.
When those people who do that would have it back up within 2 days of a wipe. Imagine if for a moment you had to take a break from the game because of a storm, work trip, or family vacation. They wipe while you’re gone.
You think, “great, I can use obelisks for once.”
You login and see them blocked off already, because you weren’t there the day of the wipe. That will literally happen if there’s a wipe. Sure you might have a chance of getting those things. But you better make sure you’re there on that day getting them.
And for everyone else who isn’t there, and mind you only 40 players per server can be on at a time, so the 41st and 42nd player and so forth is out of luck.
Yeah, i am not for a pure wipe. There just needs to be an ingame mechanic that doesn’t reward power farming for a week by a clan of 10 and then refresh just because. The game should reward players that log in dialy (or close to it) and engage in the mechanics, whether that be PVE or PVP or raiding. Again, with perma storage, body vaulting, daisy chain refreshing, one can not even play, and still destroy the fun for a lot of other players.
By adding in a cost system this would reward those that can play 10 hours a day, as they can “afford” large r builds. by having some sort of decay for EVERYTHING (not over the top, but weeks for some items) it would move the game to a use it or lose it on officials. And would also allow people to play as they see fit, vs, having to just play more than others.
