POLL: Your vote about animation canceling

Yeah, me.

The changes are not limited to PvP, they impact PvE as well. The people who have been most affected are the ones who use 2-handed weapons. 1-handed weapons recover from their attacks in like a quarter second or less, it feels nearly instant so there was never a need for them to practice canceling, but with 2-handers, particularly the 2h-sword, the time you’re unable to move for your first attack feels unreasonably long at 2 seconds. On top of that, the time between when your attack actually concludes (you are no longer dealing damage or staggering your opponent) and when you’re able to move again also feels silly long and leaves you extremely vulnerable for an entire second for… no good reason.

Nevermind players, even npc’s and bosses have enough time to hit you back when the delay is that long, even if you’re actively trying to avoid them through positioning and making use of your range. Unwielding shortened this delay to 1 second and allowed you to move while your weapon was resetting, which made it possible to actually use these weapons without being anywhere from 4 to 8 times slower.

Between the 1h sword and 2h sword, the argument of “inertia” can be used to justify that the big sword should have a harsher recovery, and that’s fair. But a difference of 8x the time to recover feels both wrong from a math standpoint and unfair from a gameplay standpoint.

I am willing to bet that the other 2h weapons have similar inconsistencies in their timings. Apart from the daggers, the only 2h weapon I’ve used that feels like it has normal pacing between its attacks and recoveries is the katana.
