PVP is dead now thanks to OP horses

Im all for adding different gameplay but for the pvp community this game was fun due to the savage battles we have all been in which created unique stories and history for each server. Ive spent over 2k hours logged into this game going through all the growing pains learning how to pvp, testing out different fighting mechanics with every weapon, armor mix and attribute build to be able to hold my own… for what when the game now has horses that are ridiculously OP.

My squad are all decent at pvp (if anyone wants to see how decent we have a private pvp server your welcome to come spar in) literally got massacred by two players on horses… their was eight of us with thralls, lol, made us look pathetic how is this allowed in the game?

Am I the only one who feels this way?

How is it any different than a weapon or armor combo that you mentioned were so adept at? I mean if you think horses are so OP, what about 54 strength weapons? They are OP for noobs. Sorry but you just look like someone that got their ego bruised by someone better than you. If your enjoyment is about picking on folks less experienced or powerful than you, then keep looking behind you…there is always going to be someone better than you.

if horses are so op then get your own and learn how to use them as you said you did with everything else.

I have no clue what I am missing here but thus far horses have been a pain in the ■■■■ to fight on. I really want to know what made 2 horses so strong that it allowed them to kill your squad. Hit and run I guess perhaps but then a skilled player can hit back just as easy.

Horses are also extreamly limited by terrain, would take very little to move to a terrain where horses would be more of a hindrance then a benefit.

I feel like I am missing some secret here cuz to me horses have sucked in combat, but are pretty good for getting around the map. Hit and run tactics might be decent, and they make kiting easy but these are bad PVP tactics and easily mitigated by players (though pretty decent in pve)

Maybe instead of saying there op and you got your ■■■ handed to you, explain to those of us missing something how they are op and why they need changed, what makes them soo op. (and no you losing 2 two people who may have just been super bad ■■■ at pvp does not tell anyone anything)

Peoples there is already an active thread discussing this issue.

There’s also a thread declaring that horses are too weak now:

I guess rock will always hate paper who will always hate scissors.

I’ll stick my neck out one more time, largely to repeat what I already said in the thread @Croms_Faithful referenced: Foot almost always loses to horse. If you’re standing on your own two feet and somebody is riding down on you, expect to be trampled. Think outside the box. Maybe get the hell out of the way & start shooting. Foot almost always loses to horse. Why is this so hard for people?

You can go ahead & flame me now, I won’t be back to this thread to read it.

You are right, it wasn’t a great explanation at all. Basically they do hell of damage and cause bleed so it there is no climbing away the turn radius makes them almost impossible to escape and you cant roll dodge out of the way. Everyone saying they only go on certain terrains you are correct, that said think where brim stone is and most farming places are easily accesible for horses so saying run away or stay off flatland is ridiculous.
I never said the 2 players were not good I only said they man handled a squad of 8 with 8 thralls, and no we weren’t picking on them, they were ob camping and we pulled up and got smacked. Yes a horse should demolish foot 1v1 but bro when multiple players are attacking and you cant knock off the player and get 3 tapped cmon something has got to give. Regardless I was asking if I was only one who felt this way and or opinions not trash talk.

thanks for the additional details, though I am wondering how the turn is so good. I must be missing a secret because I can’t get the horse to turn well for the life of me, but then I am used to the mobility of being on foot which makes sudden shifts a hell of a lot easier.

Though, I disagree horses are OP, I don think it would be cool to add in pikes and things that counter horses just because it would add more fun and elaborate fighting. though I also fear such things or even nerf to horses would make them such to the point they might as well not exist and that would be pretty sad.

I mean we have endless games where there’s no mounted combat and very few that have mounted combat.

If you pull back on stick while pushing forward and turning you can do a 180 in a split second and still have momentum to charge in that second an kill lots real fast but when there are trees and rocks and uneven terrain etc they are not good

Two feet at maximum 5 miles per hour can not fight a four leg horses at 20 or 30 you can dodge them easy if you know how to I like people that don’t know how to dodge because it’s slower I went against most enemies from mobs, warmaker, dragon etc and do not get killed in some cases no damage but you have to take hit box with timing and doge into the horse but at an angle at the last second into the weapon I do it on everything but horse is also 3 times your size 10 horses in real life against 1 man can not garentee a easy victory hit horses leg it cuts of you fall off stap in throat you die but in game you have heath so 1 horse can take on many cause of speed and maneuvering plain and simple

Try carry bleed and posin weapons take kill it fast even food will run out fast as damage will keep up do to lots of hits and could kill or dismount also arrow to the leg and it should slow as well meaning your numbers win fast also carry 2 or 3 archer thralls with good arrows and they die real fast

You have to adapt I don’t see people in real life attacking a m1a1 abrams tank with a stone spear. That would be funny though

You must be terrible at PVP, everyone knows two handed katanas (Especially the black blade) is horse riders ultimate bane. Even with a lance and precision it wins.

Here we go again with terrible pvp comment… go to “practice your pvp server” davies677 I guarantee best out of 10 you might win one and Ill live stream so everyone can see you get smacked up otherwise keep wise ■■■ comments to yourself. 1 weapon (black blade only) no other Katana works you dumb ■■■ is what your suggesting is the only counter? If you want to be a jerk don’t post here I just wanted other opinions not comments from clowns.

Thanks for the suggestion gloating tomb

will have to try the relevant combo on pc see if it works, could be a good tip. Might make horses more enjoyable if I can get the thing to not turn like a truck.

as people develop tactics to deal with horses I am sure complaints about them will dwindle. I feel it is less horses being op (though they should be slightly op since there is a time and effort factor to get them and keep them alive) and more they are new and require new tactics to deal with.

yes…

I agree…

Thanks TimeLord75. Like yourself I am going to keep my contributions on this thread to a minimum. The primary reason being that I am a purely Offline Singleplayer, and have had only a small amount of PvP experience in the past. And as such, I dont much like to give advice outside of my ballpark.

However, @Taino_Dlasavage I do recall a few PvPers in other threads have said that they like using either palisades, or the terrain itself as a preffered countermeasure against horse riders. By the terrain itself, I mean that many have recounted that they like to stand on a large boulder and fire arrows at them, or lure them into a narrow passage where they can no longer manouver.

@SirDaveWolf and @WhatMightHaveBeen are two of the finest PvP players in the community. They may be able to further elaborate or even provide better advice than myself. I hope this helps Taino_Dlasavage!

I wouldn’t call myself one of the “finest”. Experienced and just really thick skinned. But yes, fighting horses is a chore. the best way i have done it if caught out in the open is to pull thru large NPC villages, close to cliffs, and if possible towards someone elses base during raid time to try and pull aggro from archers. Trying to stand on flat ground and attack a horse back rider is not smart. The only issue I have with horses are the the no player stam usage, and the bleed on every attack. Other than that, they can be dealt with.

Perhaps one of the most modest too. No need for self-depreciation, you are a seasoned veteran who by his own admission has gone from server to server wiping toxic alphas, and from a PvP lens you give sound advice. Good enough in my books.
