Question of the Week: Is there a follower that is near and dear to your heart?

Video games seem to do a good job of making you have feelings towards friendly animal or human companions. In some cases, accidentally choosing the “mean” dialogue option to them is enough to make you reload an hour of gameplay. Though we all know they’re just made of a bunch of 1’s and 0’s we can’t help but feel close with them!

So we’d like to know, during your run through the exiled lands if there’s that one thrall or tiger or whatever that you just won’t ever let go. Whether it’s from great stats or feelings! Make sure to include their name as well if you’ve named them. And of course a screenshot if able!

On my offline or coop game it is a tossup between the Witch Queen and one of the Arena Champions. The Arena Champions spawn in with very different hair and features spawn several decide who to keep. I know it is cheating but offline for me is learning and fun. Now I am heading off to my server where I have to behave.

Spinas the Marauder (renamed Spinas the Baguette Man cause of a joke) will always be with me, close to my heart. He was my very first thrall and I spent at least 1/3 of my playtime with him by my side. The adventures that we lived together are inscribed in my mind for ever. Getting him is the first thing that I do to get started (yes I run to the north at level 10 hahaha).

And if I can speak of another boi, Ulrik the Mountaineer is also my good man (tho I wish he had a real mountaineer beard!).

Senk the Pillowdancer.

The old one, not the new one.

Sensible Senk, not punk rock Senk.

I don’t really consider her my “follower”, even though she does follow me in the game. In my head-canon, she’s my equal and has her own adventures while we’re not traveling together. It’s also canon that she’s a lot stronger than my main character.

Without further ado, my legacy Captain: Purple Ranja.

Originally a Zingaran adventuress and mercenary, Ranja’s crew was among those recruited by Thoth-Amon into the Relic Hunters. Realizing that they had become as much prisoners of the Exiled Lands than the actual Exiles, and losing hope of returning home with her riches, Ranja left her company of Relic Hunters and started a solo career. When the fortified settlement of New Sanctuary was founded north of Sepermeru, Ranja became a regular visitor, and this is where she met Kat, my protagonist.

Ranja isn’t my only “favorite” follower, although she’s among the first I customized with CharEditLite to become personalities rather than just nameless, faceless thralls. Other notable companions include

  • Jan Willing, a young hero (well, he believes he’s a hero) from the North
  • Shari N’Galla, a Kushite scholar and seeker of lore
  • Eskel, a former bandit who became a protector of a local community after meeting a wise old man
  • Lucia and Tenebra, the Sisters of Sorrow. Members of a strange cult dedicated to Derketo’s aspect of death, they bring death as their goddess’s mercy to the suffering.
  • Hans, Hans, Hans and Hans, four frost giant brothers whose father was named Hans and who was known more for his virility than his imagination.
  • The Black Knight who guards a bridge in the middle of a forest. None shall pass!

And quite a few others. As a long-time role-player and GM, I like writing characterful characters.

Vathis the Hierophant… the devs took em away from me, damn them (jk don’t ban me). I had a female Vathis on an Official server a little over a year ago when you were still able to knock em out and break them. They weren’t OP or anything, it was more or less bragging rights.

Erii the Ravishing & Hosth the Venomousth both served our clan well after the first Followers update.

The very first thrall I captured was black, so I named her Léanne who was my best friend in middle school, who’s family came to our country from Trinidad.

I took a break from the game before pets were introduced, so when I came back I wanted to try out the pet system.

On my first attempt I got a Greater Wolf, I named it ICE
I took it everywhere, I got him to level 15 when he was killed by a Purge, but he did take quite a few of them with him.

Next would be my Greater Sabercat I had on official PVP 1742

Used only Mr Snowhunter before the thrall patch, after that hit i found her abit to effective. I now show most love to Mei the blade and Captains bodyguard Undine or whatever shes called. Oh, and my female cannibal brute, she is so fierce

The timing for this post is excellent @Spynosaur_Nicole. It is the first time i public address straight to you because what i am going to say is really important, at least the way i see it. No matter if we choose to play a barbarick game, some of us have feelings too :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:. I mean how many feelings can you invest in a game?. I can assure you that in final fantasy 10 at the end my wife (she was my girlfriend back then) found me 6 o clock in the morning, watching the end of the game with tears running like a river(poor girl, still she got married me :joy::joy::joy:) . So yes i am a little sentimental, maybe to much, but i do not care what others think, i am what i am and i feel good about it. So the reason i address to you is to tell you again that the timing of this post is excellent because, the greatest damage that thrall update done to me was this one. What i meen is below.

  1. Diego. My first greater hyena. He was my best friend, my dog , my baby. Once I allmost lost him in a fight and i decide to keep him safe in front of my fire place. He had his own bowl in front of him, a rag under his feet and i always had exquisite meat in the feed box for him.
  2. Stavrula. My first bearer lvl 3. My assistant, my company in the dark nights of the game. I remember, playing solo in the beginning, every time it was getting dark, i was placing a camp fire on the ground, i was cooking some stakes to share with her. I was really sad that she was always standing and didn’t resting, so to the first light of the day, i was running home to release her from the great burden she was carrying for me. When we returned to the house, after our farming journey, she was placed next to my bed , i was taking all her burden and thanking her with a bear hug :joy::joy::joy:. Ofcurse she had her own cupboard, so i was taking her armor, weapon and shield to dress her with something light and relax :joy::joy::joy:. Ofcurse when i slaved my first male named bearer, Stavrula never left again my bedroom and tho she was level 3 she was my bearer manager :joy::joy::joy:.
  3. Monica , my everlasting love, my first snow hunter. I have no words for this thrall. With this thrall i concurred all the exile world. With this thrall i learned the game, i took all its knowledge, i reveal all the map, i kill every single boss and ofcurse gather all the necessary for the end game. But when the time came to use the keystone, i just couldn’t do it, i was looking at her and i couldn’t. So i decide to watch how the game ends on YouTube:joy::joy::joy:.
And then the update comes. My friends are powerless now. No problem i will just keep them inside. One day i had a purge, by mistake my front door was open while i was fighting, they went out to fight the great croc, out of my site and ofcurce they died, honorably, fighting for me, once more for the old glories, but power less anymore.
    Diego
    Stavrula
    Monica
Farewell you will always be in my heart, Always.

I 've told you to the beginning that the timing is excellent, i have passed my grief for my conan first beloved companions. I know it is a game, i know it very well, but still when you name something you get a sentimental bond with it, especially when you name them with names that marked your real life.

Diego, he was my first dog, a black Labrador.

Stavrula, my friend in my fifth class of juniors, she was the fear of all the school, nobody was going against her.

Monica Bellucci, no comments :joy::joy::joy:.

Thank you for this post and especially for giving me the chance to farewell properly my exile friends. Thank you Nicole

I have to add in Ritualist.
She is surprisingly nasty with worldbreaker in her hands.

Ooh and Grrr Legbiter. He makes my pants strong.

Back when bearers were OP, i had one called: amzadi the wanderer
she was my favourite, and only actual follower, the others were just guarding or decorating the place.

i was building my base and she was following me, everything was fine until, for some strange reason, she fell through a draw bridge and died, it was so random… i was pretty sad, never found her again.

i build a grave in her honor in the catacombs below my garden

RIP Amzadi the wanderer

As a matter of fact there is. I am usually a real hard case when it comes to my slaves. I consider them dirtbags who are lucky to be allocated the Light Armor and Gruel they recieve. However, I do have a soft spot for this little lady right here:

Yep, a mere level 1 (legacy) Cimmerian Fighter with less than 200 hp. So what is so special about here you you ask? She is actually the first slave I ever captured in Conan Exiles! I dont know how, but somehow this little lady has been with me since the very beginning, when I only had a 2×3 Sandstone hut. She has survived hostile passers by, Corrupted creatures, a followers falling through the ground bug, accidental balcony demolitions, and somehow, even numerous Purges; and this was before it dawned on me that it would be a good idea to lock any valuable followers inside during the Purge. Although I do just that nowadays, frankly its a miracle that she has lasted this long. Finally, in addition to all of this, she is also a Cimmerian like my character.

Lian.

I usually get a nordhiemer lvl2 gear him with the best I can, and head off to clear lians area. I do this as early as possible. So I’m often not very prepared for the hellish fight that awaits me. More often than not the camp itself is cleared with no difficulty, but lian usually makes short work of my thrall. And I’m left battling it out solo.

I usually have a roll near, in case thing go sideways. Which they more often do at this stage in the game.

But eventually I knock him out. Drag him licking my wounds back to my wheel, at this stage it’s a single wheel. And I break him.

All the while I’m cheering and plotting. Why? Because to me, once I’ve gotten lian, the exile lands don’t stand a chance. My entire empire is built upon that single lians back. I get other thralls, and they help me get more and more.

And the fallen nordhiemer? Their gear is usually transferred to lian. And when he out grows it, the weapon and shield find their home on my wall, a tribute to their sacrifice.

When it comes to gearing up my thralls, I have a rule: they keep what they kill.

So usually my thralls gear ends up being very different from one to another. They usually start off naked, except for lian. That first lian. I force him to wear the gear of the nordhiemer who he slain. Both to honor the sacrifice, and as a trophy. Until he outgrows it, and he comes across something better

After my earlier list of fighters and adventurers I think I should award an honorable mention to one of the craftsmen in my service, too - the most trustworthy used carpet salesman in the Exiled Lands, Hodur the Humble:

This is an older photo, before I put a redeemed legion pauldron, God breaker grips, Champion legs, executioner hood and picitish boots on her, all with bulked plate (Which adds another 2 points to strength to her and increases her armor rating considerably.). She also packs a Sword of crom with a master kit and stays stacked with exotic feast.
-She is on a PVP Official server and she is a veteran of many of raids (Defensive and Offensive) and is well known among our enemies for slaying them and their thralls. She single handedly defended my crafting area against a offline raid, killing the attackers and making them lose all their loot. Earning her the name Athena, a goddess of war and destroyer of all whom oppose her.
