So, we were pretty noob, just got some DLCs, and wifey went a bit nuts with placeables, in particular jade cats.
She’d put them in our clanmates inventory when they were logged out, in their “secret” chests, perch them atop crafting stations… wherever. She placed one at the top of a rarely used elevator and we (all) fell to our death multiple times but kept forgetting to revive the damn thing.
Then the server got itself a boogeyman. Brilliant solo player, a bit of a ghost offlining, very effective at finding and exploiting weaknesses, and a little obnoxious about it in Discord after. (I dug it. Heart you Gozer).
Anyway, we had an event on the server, a clanmate & I finally ran into him (and his Godbreakered Kisthis) in the flesh. He misconstrued my excitement, and having run afoul of some pyrotechnics, murdered the both us and hightailed it to our base for what I’m sure he felt was a perfectly justified retaliatory strike.
My clanmate bolted home fully expecting to find smoking ruins… and instead found his corpse beneath our elevator. We - the bumbling, rookie buffoons - took diem the boogeyman… courtesy of wifey’s stupid, brilliant jade cat.
Since then, they’ve become our thing. A gift, a curse, a reward, an apology, a warning… the jade cat is all these, and more.
I always build in the same location and i always build round a base. I like the round bases since they are simple and i can fit a wheel of pain in it. I tend to really only have one base, since i like the idea that most people in real life only have one home and travel back and forth with what they need to do (plus its hard for me to manage multiple bases). Also every floor is at least 2 walls high, it just simply looks better. As much as i like the building system in this game i dont really go crazy with builds as i would like for some reason. Guess i just get caught up with thrall hunting and farming weapons.
Wow, there’s a lot of people listing quirks things I do as quirks that I figured was just my own OCD-ness!
Like others, I always logout naked on my bed. This is partly for RP reasons, and partly to avoid screaming CROOOOOM! should I login to find I died in my sleep and lost everything.
The bedroom always has 3 chests/containers close at hand. On the right is armor, in the middle is my default loadout, and on the left is situational gear.
Armor sets are stored each on their own row in the order of helmet, check, arms, legs, feet.
Hotbar is always 1. Glimmermoon, 2. V-I Daggers, 3. Trunch, 4. Rope, 5. Tool 7. Drink, 8 Light Source, 9. Food… that’s right, there is no 6!
My characters are always female, and always reprise a D&D character.
I keep my favorite character’s appearance settings written down so that I can quickly recreate them on any server or save.
If my character or a follower has pretty hair, then masks, circlets, or headbands shall be the only “helmet” they wear (unless running the Fashionist mod).
Each character (and their guards) each have their own color-theme, and all their armor sets use the same theme so that they can be mixed & matched without clashing.
In-base guards are almost always female, male guards are relegated to the outside unless somehow particularly esteemed.
My first tiger pet must always be named “Richard Parker”.
If someone has logged out in my base in a spot that isn’t disrespectful, they get some pillows, incense, a comfy rug, some tankards, and possibly a dancer to watch over them. If they logout someplace rude though, it’s hammer time!
I keep a box with as many level-up items as I can in base so that if a friend or I decide to start a new alt and we’re in a rush, we can power-level ourselves as quickly as possible.
Maprooms must be aligned with the volcano in the correct orientation, with Sinkhole aligned to the center of the wall it’s on.
Quirks well it seems I have a few, in my personal game I only bring home male npc to work inside, I kill all female dancer with boobs that are to large for that poor woman to carry. Oh ya I do that on the server game I play with friends too. Can hear them when they find a very well rounded female dancer, " Don’t let Heaven see this girl, death will come early for her if she does!" lol It keeps me busy, there are a lot of huge chested dancers in the world of Conan.
If I find a crafting Thrall and its named and bald I seem to always hit its poor head to hard and it gets brain damage and dies, I always feel bad but there seems to be a very huge number of bald men in Conan, this keeps me quite busy also.
I always build my starter base close to the dregs, then I pick every aloe for miles until I have like so much I will never run out before I move from that area. I build my house so there is always an open area off the bedroom so I can sit outside with cover to watch the sand storms. Love them! Wish they came more often.
I dress my crafters in one outfit, my dancers in another , fighters and archers each in special outfit then color code them to their job and the base I am building.
I always go to the Unnamed City and get the map room at level 10 even if can not build one for ages, its like a right of passage for my Heaven , if she can make it though the city at level 10 I feel she may survive this harsh land.
I always organize my inventory by Weight. This way, I can maximize the amount of items being hoarded while minimizing the amount of time spent sorting it out into storage containers. When I get full I just quickly deal with the heaviest items that accumulated, and then only sort out the pile of lightweight ones later when I feel like it.
When I deposit armor into storage containers, it must be arranged in the manner I find most aesthetically pleasing, so every set is organized precisely into the 5 slots per row from left to right as follows:
Helmet, Torso, Leggings, Gloves, Boots.
Yes, I realize (and appreciate) that the order you and Larathiel describe reflect the order of the slots on the inventory screen, but this is the order I always find myself sorting armor into. Maybe because it places the most visibly significant and iconic pieces at the start? I’m not really sure why.
I actually tried at one point to break this habit and arrange it more logically by how a person might equip the pieces in real life (Leggings, Torso, Boots, Gloves, Helm) but I didn’t like the way that looked… which tends to be the overriding factor for me when no functional differences factor into making a decision. Heh!
Great picture btw. I think I’ve had that saved somewhere on one of my hard drives for awhile now.
Quirk 1)
I always log out after hanging from tall ceilings, because there’s no gravity to logged out bodys I will not be in the way of my mates because i’ll be floating above their heads, and it’s easier for them to look in my inventory while i’m logged out if i’m floating. (has no one else noticed that it’s easier to open the inventory of players when they are above you rather than under you?)
Quirk 2)
I often use vanity cam while farming so I can look my back, anyway my char is mining/chopping so it’s not really moving
Quirk 3)
I always make my female character with big juicy mozzarellas, being vegan i can never enjoy big juicy mozzarellas. It’s also easier to recognize your clan mates if they all have big juicy mozzarellas.
Perhaps more of a habit than a quirk but I always align ceilings, foundations and fence foundations, the ones that have directional markings or features anyway, in the same orientation. Just looks better.
Same order I use. It’s top to bottom and makes sense logically! Anything else is indeed heresy.
By the by, a quirk in this and other games is that when I’m just derping while chatting to rl friends over voip, I’ll roll around, jump around, and generally turn my surroundings into an obstacle course.
I cannot count the oddities that i have to this game. Still i can name some of them.
1)The biggest reason i play pvp it’s because someone will steal me or destroy my base and will give me new reason to farm . I have to mention that i never steal or raid.
2)Ofcurse like you Nikol my ‘Bella’ (i give to the character, the name of my dog) always sleeps on her comfort bed. Plus the bedroom must be fully decorated, no matter if i play pvp.
3)I cannot say that in my real life i am so organized person, but in conan everything must be in order. Everybody in my clan is waiting for me to organize the base because no matter what they do, i will reorganize. The funniest thing is that all the time they ask me to find something and i feel i am their mama (no way i am a guy).
4)My most important worker is my witch doctor. Ofcurse i have a great issue with the armorers too but my witch doctor is having a label over him writing ‘Employ of the week’ . The biggest reason i love this worker is the white dye. All my armors except guardians are white. Guardians is black.
5)I love to restart. I play in several servers, all kinds(pvp, pve…) because i farm extremely fast what i need and then it’s boring. But before i build, i have my own run, to take almost the 70% of the knowledge that the game provides, see almost all the builds of the server, before i decide if i ll stay and duild something too.
6)I just can’t drop down a thing. The reason i play all the times full encumbrance is because i can’t drop down anything. My greatest issue is the leather. After a week of gaming (PVP) i have more than 5 chests with leather and i don’t know what to do with it.
There are many more that will take me all day to wright them and you don’t habe on day to read😂.
All my characters for the longest time have a constant desire for culinary perfection. I will never eat human flesh, raw meat, or insects no matter the situation. As soon as I can unlock more complex foods than steaks, I never look back and will only eat things such as feasts, stews, or other complicated recipes.
I’ve also never had a home without a carpet, that’s too barbaric even for a game about barbarians.
Lastly, I swore an oath of revenge against all the Elk Kings, and ever since one harrowing encounter with them at a very early level I will actively kill them on sight, no matter what I’m doing. I don’t do it to harvest them for anything in particular, I just really like killing them.
I find phobos (fear) actually has a presence in this game so I never retreat by default, the ammount of times I have seen someone looking potentially hostile, drawn my axe and shield and turtled up and advanced towards them even knowing full well I am in an encumberance build, and has made them flee has been countless.
I find this game really locks in predatory instincts, if you flee, they see the fight more as chasing down prey, but you make yourself look big and aggressive, they may think twice and seek an easier meal.
