A official funcom admin shud ve able to call in on the official server for this and other problems.
the snowflakes complain again…
if you do not like their clan name what better reason can you have for a war/raid?
My point whas what a posebitety to contact a admin online is needed whit all things that can go wrong. then what tools and what they can do… But whit this spec topic the law of public spetch (probebly the norwegan law) still applye even when you hide behinde the internet. Whats ok to say or not. To say som or do is a criminal offense.
Taemien, your calculation about how many admins would be needed is flawed. I’m by no means, and neither are anyone else as far as i can tell, advocating for the constant admin presence on all servers.
There are very easy solutions to all the “difficulties” you claim bar the possibility of admins monitoring the servers.
-
Admins “per server”: You say they have 387 PC servers, lets use that number for an example. They would need a maximum of 1 hired admin per 100 servers, and probably way less.
-
Reporting & verifying proof: You claim people would try to frame others, and that it would be almost impossible to prove guilt. It really would be quite easy. Funcom have the means of looking in server logs, that would easily be able to verify if (in my OP) example of 2 clans named in breach of racism conduct. They wouldnt even need to log in to the server itself. If the racism was by text it would also show in logs, and be able to be solved easily. With verbal abuse via the voice system, it would be hard, but there you have tools to mute, and could still report players, and if they continue to get reported, they could get monitored.
-
Cost: You forget that Funcom already employs GM’s/Admins in both Anarchy Online, Age of Conan, The Secret World, and probably others, an so already have the infrastructure to handle something like this. So the cost for expanding that, to Conan Exiles would be much much much smaller than you project. And there are tools available, already inhouse at funcom, that if not enabled right now, would just need to be.
In short, you (and i’m sorry to get a little bit personal) come with a lot of claims, and state them with such certainty that leave no room for a proper discussion, and yet those claims are woefully flawed, like i’ve tried to show with this post.
Conclusion, it is NOT too much to ask, when we are some who expects Funcom to live up to their responsibility.
Yes to have one online 24/7 in every server is not an option. But (its ofician server we talk about) to have a flag option call an admin online. That signal can go to an sentral hub that tacke care of all the reports. And then they combac in X h to deal whit it.
The flag system can be good on privat server to but then it go to the local admin.
Simple thing is FC won’t get involved with issues about racism.
You’re on your own to figure out how to deal with it.
Grow a pair.
You can call it what you like but its still brake the law.
Try to tell that to the people who are doing the offending.
They will laugh at you.
Yes most serten, atleast if they get away whit it and it give them the atentions they desperat need. Thats whay the law and the admin have to do somthing about it.
But neither one will.
The laws in your country don’t necessarily apply to the offenders and Funcom has no interesting in moderating such things in this game.
If you really think legal action needs to be taken, file a report with your local law enforcement agency and hope for the best, but I seriously doubt they’d care what some idiot is saying in a game.
As a minority who grew up in a racist town that had the KKK actually marching the main road up until the late 60’s, had kids dressing up in their dad’s klan outfits for Halloween, and dealt with a lot of racism directed towards me, I can’t help but agree with this statement right here:
It’s natural for humans to hate something, they always have, they always will. Many times there’s no logic behind it. Some hate people for their skin color, some hate for their religious views, others hate people because they disagree with them politically, hell, some even hate people for their choice in video game platforms. You could even go to a place where everyone gets along, are the nicest people ever, seems like a paradise…until someone not like them shows up. Then you’ll see attitudes change.
The point I’m getting at is some people are just ■■■■■■■■, and there’s nothing you can do to stop them from being such a way, besides taking away their freedom to be ■■■■■■■■, but if you do that, then you’re an ■■■■■■■. So sometimes, it’s just best to grow a pair and let people be who they are. If you don’t like it, then don’t have anything to do with them, or, in this case find a way to get them to leave. If it’s pvp, then force them to leave. Give them no peace until they’re gone. Make it so they don’t have fun. If it’s pve, then do the same crap I hear everyone else doing on those damn official servers and block them from doing anything.
Being a minority myself I overlook much of the hate as some I actually understand .
When in gym class and it’s time to hit the showers I can really see the problem and why all the saltiness
Imagine being a plumber and your pipe is too small for the drain .
Wouldn’t you hate the guys with quality pipe as they will get most of the jobs you might want.
Yes to compare what to hapens on the net whit what hapens in real life is quite new and its unclear what state law that rule in this case. But it have bean a big deal on the forum so hope Funcom can clear ther polesy on the mather.
Not really, rather than looking at it like a drain, I tend to look at it more like a glove. Not every glove will fit every hand, some will be too small, some will be too big. Just gotta find the glove that fits. lol
I would gladly pay 10 bucks a month to play on a server that was policed by the devs or employees for racist or even troll blocking builds on the pve servers that cannot remove them by force.
Then do it and rent your own server. There’s many options to choose from, they tend to average around $15/month but the more time you pay in advance the cheaper it gets. If you don’t wish to police it yourself, then just find people you know and trust to help you with it.
If people can go from internet insults to physically assaulting minorities, clan naming enforcement in a video game isn’t going to magically stop them.
This is a SJW point of view, censor everything approach.
They were racist before naming their in-game clan “KKK” and even if the game stops them, they’ll still be racist. The only thing you’re doing is protecting people from seeing who is really a bad guy. If someone names their clan KKK, or anything racist-like, it should only help people like me avoid them.
It’s when dangerous people have to tip-toe around censors like this that we end up with more problems. Wolves in sheeps clothing at that point. So they have to name their clan “Mr. Rogers Neighborhood” and invite people in, just for those people to find out how crappy their new friends are.
I say remove all censors from everything. Let the idiots brand themselves with clan and usernames that I know I want to KOS and never group with
This right here a thousand times. I could not agree more.
Journalist and anti-racist activist here. This is a much bigger issue than folks are making it out to be. Amazon bought the rights to make a Conan TV show to run JUST after Game of Thrones ends, which will no doubt lead to an influx of folks to the game when it drops. One of the benefits of Howard’s world (Howard was pretty racist, by the way) is that UNLIKE Game of Thrones/Song of Fire and Ice which was written following a specific group of mostly white leading protagonists, we might get a high fantasy show with equitable representation of minorities who are allusions to (but not appropriations or parodies) of real world cultures. I’m actually a big fan of Howard’s original work precisely BECAUSE it allows for so much more moral and political dynamism. His world might have been constructed based on racist ideals, but you can still be a rebel in it. Long story short, Funcom has an obligation to show better custodianship of the Conan IP, because Amazon is going to have a conniption if their show gets undermined by a widespread perception of the Conan-verse being a contemporary safe-harbour for racist ****birds.
Hate groups in video games isn’t a new phenomenon. It plagues Steam, and in a practical sense is less Funcom’s problem than Steam’s problem-- because these communities are also organizing on that platform and buying products there, and their accounts haven’t been frozen. In my opinion (albeit, a Canadian one), creating a ‘KKK’ group in one game should preclude you from accessing any of them. You lose your right to interact with normal society when you flout its rules.
All that said, I’m on a PVP official server and have seen no overt racism. Some sexism/transphobia but geesh, it’s video games. I don’t expect miracles of mediocre people. Idiots are going to play too. I would be really happy to join up with some anti-racist folks and create a cross server network or consolidate on a specific server. From a PVP perspective, dropping a Yog on the KKK and “liberating” their slaves would validate me in ways that social-justice forum posts never will. I mean, if you’re on a PVP server, you DO have some recourse. PVE servers might need content moderation because there’s literally no way to address chat griefing. That’s actually why I don’t play there, PVP servers are more brutal-- but also much more polite.
And if the glove doesn’t fit, you must acquit.
