That was my feeling as well even at the time. I think that the creative team was on board but simply at every turn told, no, no, no when wanting to finish the game.
What I love about CE:
- Building System
- Craft Stations and Thralls
- Decorations
Basically, you can really build your small fortress/citadel and populate it.
What I don’t like:
- Actual Thrall/Pet Balance
- Actual Weapons Balance
- Absence of an actual economy
- Absence of in-game events (it would be hard to describe, but I’d like some … I don’t know, Ranking).

The versatility. Whatever I feel like doing, I can hop into the game and do that.
The freedom to move around, climb, swim, dive, build stairs like in Lemmings, etc. is unlike anything else I’ve experienced. Just because there’s a fallen tree across the path doesn’t mean I can’t continue further in that direction.
I can build my own stronghold. Not just like in some RPGs where you get an existing house/castle/starship and add some upgrades to it. I can build it from the ground up to look like any house, castle or starship I want. And I can decorate my base with employees just the way I want. (Just please, more emotes for thralls, and clothing options for workers, and I’ll be happy.)
I can fight a huge variety of enemies and feel like a badass defeating them. I’ve never been fond of extremely difficult action games because I suck at them, but I can set this game’s difficulty to suit my needs to be challenging enough, but not too punishing. Now, if only those NPCs weren’t such idiots.
And the game is beautiful. Despite being here since Early Access, it’s still highly enjoyable to just wander around taking in the scenery every now and then.
Finally, a sense of achievement. Despite playing solely on Single-Player, I play with 1x exp and harvesting multipliers and never touch the admin panel. Whatever I build, I’ve done it by myself.

In hope of a better update…
I’ve been here a while, but Age of War chapter 1 is by far the worst update ever.
These things are great:
- Building
- Weapon variety
- Customization
- Exploration
- Greatly designed biomes
- Most dungeon layouts are exciting
- The moderation on official servers (maybe not always as good, but other games are way worse)
These things are not great:
- Combat
- Rewards for doing content (for example dungeons, the weapons are crap since AoW)
- The lack of communication from Funcom
- New things to do…
- The AI is very confused
- Never ending nerfing and changes to already existing content (the game can’t be a good PvE and PvP game unless they split changes is 2)
All in all… I wish the game was steered in the direction its good at, we don’t want another game we want new things to do and a expansion with new content. I don’t want the old stuff to be changed. I hate it not being able to repair my gear or having to deal with permanent damage.
So much content became pointless… leave the old alone and only improve… stop changing the game.

Mods and private servers. You could not pay me to play this game unmodded or on official servers.
Why did my reply get flagged? It was an honest answer, albeit a bit vulgar maybe.
Welcome to the club. You are not supposed to say anything negative without providing images/video of WHY you have such negativity. If in fact your post was negative. Document the evidence … then post. Lol.
But seriously. What keeps me playing? I bought ALL the DLC’s before they went Battle Pass/Bazaar. Waste of money if I don’t use them.
I have been noticing that the game seems less buggy lately. Used to be over 20 people on my server but now … I only ever see like 4 to 8. The lack of people on the server really cut back on the lag and crappy game play. Kudos for FUNCOM finally addressing some of the issues that were causing a negative gaming experience by making Less people play on the servers. (My server still goes PING 9999 almost every day even tho barely no one is on the server anymore … submitting a report only gets you the generic reply …
"Greetings Exile, We’ve received your official server performance issue report. We’ll take a look at what’s going on and pass the information on to our developers or our server host if needed. We’ll be in touch only if we have additional questions. Apologies for the inconvenience and thank you for taking the time to report the issue. Also remember that if you are experiencing any other issues, you can submit a new ticket. We’ll be happy to help you out!
ALso … a real life friend started playing back in February … so kinda log on and play to help out where I can. Third reason … BALDUR’S GATE 3 keybinds feel a bit wonky … still ironing that out … just got it a few days ago …
Anyway …

My wife (back then my girlfriend) find me playing in the morning but the shutters was closed so i didn’t understand it went 7 in the morning. My first choise was barbarian! Beautiful days.

So basically, sunk cost fallacy, cognitive bias, is what keeps you playing
I haven’t been playing it that long, only about 2weeks or something probably not even that and when i started playing it i loved everything about it, i always like building games, exploring, looting, mining for rss etc, great gameplay all in all tbh, it’s just disappointing when you start running into issues, i was playing NMS alot because of the same sort of way the game plays with building bases, mining rss… i like the landmarks and buildings in Conan and it’s immersive, I can’t believe I’ve only just found out about this game not long ago and it was released back in 2016-17… fell in love with it straight away

The mods that fix what the devs have broken.
So true. I’ve seen A LOT of gamers who can’t even extract a simple ZIP archive, let alone know what it actually is.
Pretty sad IMO, but it is what it is.
Consoles are there for people who just want to insert a disc and play (or download and play). Without having to worry if the hardware can run it etc.

Yes. And faith … FAITH that they will eventually fix all the bugs. It is like waiting for the … insert religious stuff here … sad
Yeah. It’s a common mistake to label young people as “digital natives” simply because they were born in an age with smart phones. And you know, they may know their way around Whatsapp and Play Store and Pokemon Go, but if you ask them which folder their Whatsapp media is stored in, or if they can find it in Resource manager, you’re met with blank stares and confused expressions.
Making digital devices and services as accessible as possible is essential because digital services are becoming mandatory in many countries. The same applies to video games, which have become mainstream entertainment.
I remember the days when we had to edit autoexec.bat and config.sys to get some games running on our PCs - and I still remember how to do that - but I’m glad those days are gone.

My children cannot control their pc only with the keyboard, they need mouse or pad. I berely touch them. But i am the worst when it comes to pc in my house
. But it’s not their fault, they find it easy why should they learn hard?

Engaging PVP interactions in the open world freeform gameplay, hard to find another game like it at its best, where I can door run, Fight with junk, have little “victorys” and gains.
Outsmart Outhink and Outlast my opponents, and it makes for a good teamplay game, but its increasingly difficult with all the issues to get clan mates to join me.

Over 5000 h in, mostly just the building part keeps me going. I hate basically all of the updates, they have made the game boring. These days we just start a new server, build in a different location in a new style, try different atrribute setups and after a couple of days it gets so boring that it’s time to start a new one so there would be even a minimal amount of challenge. And of course one thing that keeps me playing is to see how the updates affect gameplay in a longer run. I can’t just read the patch notes and say “that’s ***” without actually experiencing it myself.

I’ve been coming back to this thread for a while, and every time I decide I want to reply, I don’t really have much to say. I’ve come to the realization that my answer to “what keeps you playing” is “nothing much”.
Right now, my greatest involvement with Conan Exiles is the work I do on BUGLE. But does that keep me playing actively? Not really.
In fact, I’ve been on a vacation trip for the past week, so couldn’t play Conan Exiles. Now that I’m back, I don’t really feel the urge to jump back in.
I usually come back when there’s a major update, to try out the new stuff and see if I’ll have fun with it. During the Age of Sorcery, I had more fun with the updates, because they actually added stuff worth exploring. But Age of War started with such a spectacularly disappointing update that I can’t think of a single thing that I want to go do on the server where I play.
This last update made the PVE side of the game into all-grind-no-challenge snoozefest.
So I guess I’m hanging around because of BUGLE. Who knows, maybe the next chapter will be better.
