Surge etiquette 🧐 - PvE

Sorry for the delay @Frillen i failed to see your response to @Eniguman.
There are no hard evidence that Siptah is easier than exile lands on the named crafters.
But…
Taskmaster on exile lands, God Rath the oath breaker.
Task master in Siptah, the stygian camp on the beach ahead the Grey pool entance. It has 99% master task master. In age of sorcery it had a khitan caravan as well. In this camp i find alchemist as well.
Another really good camp for cook, alchemist, carpenter and Tanner i was very lucky in siphos camps front and rear and i was climbing the mount to get with the gravedigger Asuras pieces, legendary weapons and the bindings of the dead. Just a little deeper in the first camp you gain the maw of hyena for free  and the female boss to the second camp gives apes and yetis among other goodies.
For Lhior or how they call the top less fantastic armorer i was lucky on the south camp under the mount across the temple of the loon. The male boss of this camp gives eldarium tools and scraps as well. I believe that only the Northwest part of Siptah has huge difficulty on named crafters, but because it has access to the ā€œunnamed city of Siptahā€ the camp at the end that you get Brutus provides plenty named crafters too.
Crafters seem to be harder in Siptah for 2 basic reasons.
One, no teleport with map room and obelisks
Two Always Accursed purges with literally zero crafters :man_shrugging:. All this time maybe a taskmaster or two, but nothing else (maybe bad rng who knows)
But honestly, it ain’t harder, actually it’s easier and no, i don’t believe that surges is cheating. Surges are not easy, the npcs hit really hard and you may lost good Thralls in order to capture crafters. If you lost control of the agro it can become really nusty. Above all, you know it too, you may have a surge that maximum 4 thralls and crafters together and another that will fill 2 greater wheels :man_shrugging:. Everything is fking rng in Siptah, it can become tiresome.
Exile lands use to be easier for me, now Siptah is and i still don’t know this island like i know the lands.

I recommend looking for artisans in pirate coastal camps. They have a lot of artisans - several people for each specialization! ALL of my artisans were pirates. There you can even find the named priest of Zath. There is a separate conversation about chefs, pirates have a cult of food))) and 4 named chefs. In large camps, you can simultaneously find up to 5 cooks…)))
But it’s better not to go to the Stygians. No matter how much I ran to them, I did not find a single artisan, except for a cook and, it seems, an alchemist. They are greedy, and in their chests they have all sorts of rubbish))
PS And you don’t have to go to the Nkosi camp either, except for the doggi Brut, you won’t find anyone…

I think there is a reason for that… Simply because general crafter thrall hunting is way more difficult on Siptah, there are way less of small camps especially on the main island which is barren compared to the southpart which was added during early access.
To better understand why the main island of Siptah feels barren perhaps is because at early access launch there were no human camps on Siptah, the southern parts didn’t even exist, so thralls could be gotten through 2 kinds of surges, done by the Leyshrines or wild surges which activated themselves randomly but in set spots out of many possible.
The wild surges could be from many different factions, but they were limited to T1-3 fighters, archers and crafters, I kinda miss those wild surges, they were actually a bit fun when thinking back, and also gave low level players a chance to get some decent thralls early on

Anyways as I said Siptah was initially without human camps and players felt it was too empty so the devs added some human camps, but since players may have built in the areas they wanted to place them, they then warned us with a map showing where they would place so that players could move from the area before they released the 2.3 update

As you can see that is not a whole lot of camps and also widely spread out compared to how close camps are in Exiled Lands, also many of the camps had/have way lower chance of spawning higher tier crafters, I think it Was Firesparks81 who did a check on these camps (not sure it was him), but again Funcom wanted the main mechanic for getting good thralls to be the Leyshrine surges, and at the same time they removed the wild surges which actually lowered the chance for low level players to get a decent T3 thrall.
And a little later(2.4) they added the 3 biomes south of Siptah main island, which did add a decent amount of camps with a possibility to get some T3-4 thralls, but it is not low level friendly place for most players, it is far more dangerous than most of the Exiled Lands map.

Start a fresh game in both Siptah and Exiled Lands and see how fast you can get decent thralls especially at least T3 blacksmith(needed for crafting steel cheaply), T3 Alchemist(needed for easy oil production) or any other at least T3 worker thrall, my bet is that you would have all you need in Exiled Lands long before you have it on Siptah, even if you count out Sepermeru and Sinner’s Refuge, pretty much any type of T3-4 worker thrall can spawn in most exile and dafari camps, that is not the case on Siptah, some of the Siptah exile camps don’t even have a crafter spawn and most that do is limited to T1-2 at best.
On Siptah your best bet is pirates mentioned by @Teng, but even those camps have a fairly low spawn chance for high tier crafters, they also don’t have many of them, but they do have a bunch of archers and often high up shooting down at you, and after the Age of War update beginnings are way more rough, these guys can kill you very fast without much levelling or good armor - It is not that I don’t like a good challenge, I do, but Siptah just feels… too much RNG, still like to play there once in a while though just for variety

You are absolutely right, except for a certain type of brutal Elder purge, I have never gotten anything else than accursed purges on Siptah which did provide me with lots of T4 fighters, but like you literally zero crafters :joy:
Personally I don’t mind Siptah not having maprooms and obelisks, I actually liked that part of it, however for quick access between a thrall outpost and main base I just used battlestandard to kill myself and respawn with full inventory at main base or the other way

Yes you can absolutely do surges to get thralls and a T4 surge usually spawn a decent amount of T4 crafters.
Surges has and always will bring out the worst in some fellow players, there is a lot of stealing, I remember once doing a surge alone, pretty much all that I knocked out got stolen + a lot got killed by jerks.
However my main reason for not liking the surge system is that it is kind of ordering an unspecified but good quality pizza… Yeah bad comparison, I know, but it was the best I could come up with :joy:

I have always like the hunt for thralls and occasionally running into a T4 crafter at the many small camps in Exiled Lands which are so plentiful that there almost was one for every hundred meters unlike on Siptah.
I especially loved the T4 crafter hunt way back when their name meant they had a speciality that only a few others could do, anyone remember how hard Grrr Legbiter was to find? :joy:

when we had character transfer, I had 2 accounts when playing solo, a spare account that did nothing but travel back and forth, guess what the most requested trading object was?

On Siptah the most requested trading objects was RHTS, T4 crafters, stacks of Grandmaster weapon and armorsmith fittings.
In Exiled Lands the most requested trading objects was Eldarium bars, tools, weapons and armor.

Damn… I miss being able to transfer, there was so much fun trading back then… Oh well Funcom gives, and Funcom takes away, that is sadly just how it is :pensive:

I feel like I am going in circles between how things was and is now, better stop here before I start sounding like a broken record, if not already :joy:

I really envy you playing Siptah early access. I am not Saying that now it’s not good but it’s this overbuild south that’s more nusty than the surge troll.
Siptah is lovely and i start missing this damn island.

Yeah the south part of sIptah is overbuild on most official servers except for the vulcanic part, but that place is just too dark for me personally to ever consider building a base, and the lag and massive amounts of bases in the sunny part of south islands is just too much for me, so there isn’t much left except for the main island and there I prefer the west side close to the river, because sun and you can see where you are going

About early access gaming, I simply love it, you get to see a game while being built and are somehow a part of shaping its direction, it is a great way of gaming, sadly it is a very rare thing for people on consoles to experience, I think you would have liked it, quite often they start out being way more unforgiving than when they get fully released, it is an experience sort of like seeing a child grow up - I can definitely recommend trying out early access games if you ever switch to the dark side(pc) :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Yeah I play with a few friends on a private server, I have not been able to get any of them to play on official servers for a year or so, they simply don’t want the hassle there anymore.
However I did manage them to once in a while play together on our own private server, and recently we wiped it and started from scratch on Siptah, usually it is either Exiled Lands or Savage Wilds which a totally awesome map made by modders, but this time we agreed on trying Siptah, some wanted a lot of mods while I prefered as close to vanilla as possible and on a hardcore barbaric setting, we agreed on only 1 mod but on normal settings… Damn I would have loved a slow and hard progression and could have lived with some sexy mods, but seeing how difficult a fresh start on Siptah is after Age of War changes, maybe it wasn’t the worst idea with normal settings

Do it Stelagel… Just do it
