Testlive Patch (22.05.2020) - Followers re-balancing, Avatar fixes and more!

Hi, pve player speaking up. I wanted them nerfed so world bosses aren’t a boring stand and wait while snowhunter beats them to death for you. It adds challenge to the game when you actually have to be involved and help too. I’m a moderator in the unofficial discord server and I see people constantly talking about how OP thralls are in pvp and pve both. Where’s the fun in standing around waiting for them to make all the kills for you?

Wonderful so now they can be an hour fight and take up the full time some people have to play, great happy you enjoy this nerf. I mean that happy someone is. I myself do not let my thralls do the fight while I sit and watch that is just lazy or cheesy to be honest, I prefer to fight with the thralls or did when they worked, now that their AI is so broken since last patch much less fun to do a dungeon at all as its a hour fight for some scrap and a rock lol.

But again not all of us have hours and hours to do dungeons over and over and over to get enough scraps to build something but happy someone gets some joy.

Cant agree with you more. Some people complain that thralls just do all the work. In my opinion, if they want a challenge, solo the dungeon. Whos forcing them to bring thralls? lol

I’m not sure what you really want for me. If you’re on limited time to play, might I suggest playing on a server with boosted rates and easier combat? Or if you don’t want an hour long fight, be tactical. Stack debuffs, use armor penetration, maximize damage output for you and the thrall alike. I’ve never spent an hour on a fight, even when I fight without a thrall altogether

I am just confused on why they are pushing out this update when the last one resulted in so many bugs that have not been fixed yet.

You mean these ones?

@Tharl

Sorry I did not phrase that well.

Cimmerian Beserker = 100% Spawn
Votaries = Common Spawn

Yes and those are welcome fixes however there are others that I don’t see such as purges teleporting into bases and the Abysmal Remnant not engaging. Others may disagree with me but I just think that fixing bugs resulting from the past updated should be done prior to releasing any new changes.

Others definitely will. Every time they shift to bugfix mode, the army of angry internet comments switches from GaEm 2 BuGy to suddenly GaEm dEd nO cOnTeNt, and there is no in between. It’s always a good day when there’s both.

Long time player here (playing since early access 2k+ hrs played).

I kinda agree that thralls are OP, but they kinda need to be.
Let me explain.

You introduced leveling (which I love by the way).
This means that people now spend hours grinding the thrall to level up.
Lowering the hp and damage output will make it more difficult and more time consuming for us and make the thrall even more valuable in sunken cost.

With the purge as it is now, that means that they will die more easilly, forcing us to get new ones and spend hours and hours again leveling them.

May I propose

  • Keep the HP, that way they have a better chance of surviving leveling and purges.
Reducing the damage output with 25% in both melee and archery to start with and listen to the players what the result is.

  • Nerf the purge with an equal 25% in damage output, keeping survivability as it is now.

  • Fix the teleporting purges bug introduced in the latest patch (I think it’s related to changes in the pathing for the AI that is now thinking it can’t reach the base while it totally can)

  • Better match purges with the region built in.
For instance, I had 3 consecutive cultist purges ( Disciple of Sobek)
They cost me not only my base, but also all my thralls.
Such a purge makes sense near the volcano where they live, but not in the desert near the sinkhole.

I understand the need to Nerf the thralls, but keep the game balance in mind or you will kill PVE servers (unless you are on a private server where the admin has disabled the purge)

Looking forward to your feedback and decision.

Agreed however; releasing new content prior to fixing the bugs (at least the major ones) the past release created may result in compounding of new bugs. Unless this next update is bug free (at least no major ones) which we can all hope for.

Hahahaha. I saw this coming from a mile away but it still suprises me they would release the nerf without buffing player characters. At least, y’all know what the next patch is. Oh, and 40% is not just a bit.

Also, it is painfully obvious that pvp and pve need to be seperated if each patch or update released is detrimental the gameplay of the other.

Finally a survival game and not a “send my thrall to play the game for me” game.

I can already tell most of you complaining havent even been on testlive to try it. I just threw a new relic hunter at the arena champion to let it solo it, it did fine. Then I solo’d her with darfari light gear and a mace. I just solo’d the red mother with darfari light gear and daggers. What are w
You even upset about? This is a. Change that needs to happen for the health of the game. Being 1 shot by any thrall in game isn’t fun

I expected that this is clear.
With more encumbrance by default you could spend less points on it and more on pvp attributes.

Though that is not so complicate to understand.

It is when you dont mention attribute points like I’m a mind reader. Get a pet or a bearer ez

I play exclusively on PVE, for my gameplay Followers/thralls are my bodyguard and I certainly want my bodyguard to be more powerful than I am, otherwise I wouldn’t need them. To call them sidekicks I believe is not an accurate lens to be looking through. I certainly wouldn’t call the Mountain, the Hound or Giant’s Bane (from GoT) sidekicks, heroes or slaves. They were paid mercenaries or followers and they were definitely more powerful than the ‘Heroes’ they followed.

On PVE, there are many player character builds which require the follower to be more powerful than the player, for example resource gathering. Also, I use different armour sets/looks depending on what I am doing in game, when I’m not in full armour I definitely need a bodyguard follower to protect me.

I am in agreement that the followers should have adjustments, as has been done with this patch, but please do not regard them with a single lens. Also what applies to PVE may not apply to PVP so perhaps it’s time to start separating the rulesets on each server type instead of a blankent approach.

I am totally on board with reducing the thralls. They are currently way over powered. Here are my thoughts on what else needs to happen to make us the heroes while also keeping boss encounters epic:

  1. Give players a small hp bump. Maybe 75. Would need tested
  2. Adjust bosses - more fight mechanics that need to be watched and responded to and less hp
  3. Give players more attack options. Roll and strike, jump and strike, shield bashes that are not part of combos.
  4. Flatten all of the thralls. Rare ones from dangerous places need to be the most powerful, but the exiles you invest time in should still be useful.

Wasn’t replying to you, was replying to Funcom’s post, i just clicked the reply button and i suppose it replied to your post.

Nerfing thralls has a huge knock on effect on nearly every other thing in the game Balance wise. So unless Funcom you have something huge in the works related to player leveling and stats etc. Nerfing Thralls means you’re going to have to Adjust player HP, reduce and balance boss encounters and everything else inbetween, Shorten the time to level up thralls, all this needs balancing and further dev team resources.

PvPers are the ones complaining about OP thralls, so adjust thrall PvP damage, you don’t need to touch their stats for PvE. I’m usually not vocal about nerfs and balances, like with the roll mechanics etc.

But this is just stupid. This is going to break the game. So long for me being able to do any of the harder dungeons now, because i’m a solo player and i need my thralls to be strong to take the aggro and damage from all of the bosses because they’re all damage sponges.

Instead of nerfing thralls, just Double player HP.
