Testlive Update 2.8 - Discussion Megathread

I suppose I should link this here:

FPS drops EVERY time im in any location with snow\rain\ash etc. No matter of settings.

Hm, it’s either missing or is not an object in 2.8.

All these decaying structures/objects and the new rain system which causes fps drops.

Love the idea of emotes for thralls, and it is something which I have long wanted. But if I may offer a piece of bite of constructive feedback. I feel that seeing a thrall perform the same emote over and over, or having to change them over and over to circumvent this, may become a pain over time and detract from the fun.

Would it be possible to set them to ‘random’, and have the thralls run through the pool of our known emotes at random. More fun than watching one clap or spit for 48 in-game hours. I also feel that not knowing or predicting what comes next would add to the fun.

TL:DR: can we have an option to cycle through emotes at random?

Removing Fence stacking is going to make PvP servers more performant, but the gameplay is gonna be trash. It’s already super fast to get into a T3 base. By removing fence stacks they are making bases even more paper thin than they already are.

Personally, I am in favor of removing fence stacking, but only if they increase building HP or reduce bomb damage. From my recent experience playing, it feels like bombs may have already been nerfed a bit, but not sure.

Either way, it is currently so fast to blow into a base that an organized squad can raid most bases in the time it takes you to take a bio.

Thank you. Helpful information here. Imma have to test out testlive myself.

Kewl! Lemme know what you find pertaining to part placements and I’ll add it there with credits.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
We will pass this information over to the rest of the team for further investigation.

Emotes works only on thralls that are not following.

Is this intentional?

There’s the known bug in 2.7 that entertainers are unable to attack after being knocked out while in dancing animation. This seems to fix that issue, but it’s a bit sad compromise.

No, they removed one of the few ways to slow offline raiders, this making it more beneficial to avoid the pvp part of raid, and more about offlining. Again, show me the raid changes in the last year that promoted a healthier pvp base.

What you call ‘healthier PvP base’ they call ‘exploit’. But that still doesn’t change that this is a very huge PvP change.

It is. Completely changes the defense strategies…but no different than the foundation spamming anti-treb strategies had to be changed. However you have to look at the entirety of the server. As the game gets more and more detailed and massive, the toll on the server becomes more and more pronounced. While everyone builds their defenses, as you well know, this is standard practice. So you got 10-30 bases and each and every piece is putting toll on the server. This means that your fence stacking is putting 5 times the toll as 1 foundation.

Lets look at it another way. We all point to server traffic as a game’s success…well I hate to tell everyone this but it’s not. It’s the revenue that comes in. Just because a game is popular does not mean that its profitable and if it’s not profitable, then it dies. These servers cost money. Who is going to fund the updating of all the servers to maintain the playability of folks that want to maximize their base’s memory load on the server ?

Besides there are completely legit ways to emulate fence stacking. Honycomb wedge foundations withe fence foundation perimeters on each foundation. Still legit, still heavy on the HP, still slows raiders down to the point of snails crawl.

No, you are being dense. Healthier means to have people actually on. It is a big PvP change, to make it less viable to some gamers. The list is meant as where the priority is to improve those areas. PvP raid is the bottom. I am still waiting on an example of a positive change for raid. As in new mechanic, new dlc, etc. Everything offered over the last 3 years has been decor or pve based. Weapons changes that are introduced have very little though on pve-c ramifications, which is why they always end up nerfing. Again, the attention of the devs is primarily pve and rp based. Then tweaks are done that try and make them fit pve-c, and rarely even think about pvp raid. The only major addition for pvp raid was dynamic building damage, and was abandoned with out ever rolling it out to the officials. Mainly because the offline raiders voiced thier disapproval so loudly, and thier was a way to exploit it mechanically.

No I think there was more to DBD at issue there. From what I understand there is a large exploit that is available when it’s on that they didn’t want out there on officials.

I have come to terms with PVE focus on paid content because they actually buy more DLC’s than most of us in the PvP crowd. Better customers get better service. Business isn’t a democracy. Besides I like aesthetics in my building as well so these decorative DLCs work for me as well.

PLENTY of PvE people have chimed in about how this changes their gameplay.

As an award-winner, I also mentioned my craftable painting would not exist were it not for the (former) flexibility of the unmodded building system.

Every server is apparently affected by staxxing. I would hope someone can come forward and demonstrate this, rather than our taking it simply on faith.

No, I’m being flat out direct. The more I hear people complain about fence stacking going away, the more I’m sure it’s an exploit that needs to go away faster.

Well, I haven’t been to the mounds in any substantiative way since I started playing again, but no. I haven’t noticed any FPS loss from the rain.

oh, I am glad it is gone, removed Gray area. I personally use honeycomb. I am just stating the fact that raid is not a high priority for devs to balance. I understand, pve and rp drive dlc sales. Smart business. I just want to make sure my voice is heard as a red headed step child pvp raid player.

The Devs aren’t doing to this to remove it from PVE play or because someone was being fancy with a wall corner. They are doing this because people are stacking 100 layers of defense in a space of 20 layers and causing lag issues.
