Thoughts on buying Isle of Siptah now (2024)?

, ,

Ever since Exiles came out I’ve gone thru cycles of playing a lot and then being fully sick of it. Isle of Siptah came out just as I was going into a sick of it phase, and I didn’t buy it. I’ve come back to the game (a couple times since then actually) and have been having some fun with Age of War this time around. I’m wondering if Siptah would be worth getting at this point. What does it currently offer that the base game doesn’t?

  • new worldmap, obviously. Is it cool?
  • new dungeons, right?
  • new armors?
  • it had its own version of a Purge, that was called a Surge, didn’t it? Does that still work in Siptah? Or did it get replaced by the Age of War base defense mechanic along with the old mainland Purge? Was the Surge really any different than the old-style Purge?

Who’s got Siptah? What do you think?

i got sipath but never played there, i bougth it just for use what was possible in exiled lands, like the rhino saddle.

Siptah is a fantastic map to play on.
But don’t expect all new features to be added there.
For example, you can make a tavern, but there is no purge base to raid.

I do honestly think it’s worth buying though… it’s a lot of fun.

  • new worldmap, obviously. Is it cool? very cool! It’s a smaller map, and it’s much easier to get resources earlier… but it’s a great map setup.
  • new dungeons, right? yes, but they tend to follow the same setup as EL dungeons
  • new armors? yes there are new armor sets, and there is a new type of metal as well
  • it had its own version of a Purge, that was called a Surge, didn’t it? Does that still work in Siptah? Or did it get replaced by the Age of War base defense mechanic along with the old mainland Purge? Was the Surge really any different than the old-style Purge? Surge is still around… it’s basically a storm in the middle of the map that spawns tough demonlike creatures. I enjoy it. You can also spawn the regular purges as well.
  • new worldmap.
    It’s very green
    Very little magma.
    No snow.
    Two forest biomes.
No weather other than the Maelstrom in the center.
Overall, it’s fun and has lots of verticality. This one would prefer more diversity, but resources for end game are spread well across the entire map.

  • new dungeons, right?
Several, called Vaults on Siptah. They all share a roughly similar aesthetic and most are on the medium size. Not as large as the one cellar or such, but they are definitely present and most have good rewards.

  • new armors?
Yes. The Slaveforged set has a good outfit for house slaves/sacrifices (light), bdsm slaves (medium), and a fairly nifty, other than the very silly shoulder guards set of actual armour (heavy). Then there are the statistically interesting armours and weapons you can learn in the Vaults and pirate or Stygian camps

  • it had its own version of a Purge, that was called a Surge, didn’t it? Does that still work in Siptah? Or did it get replaced by the Age of War base defense mechanic along with the old mainland Purge? Was the Surge really any different than the old-style Purge?
    Very.
While Siptah is modern purge enabled, the Surge is very different.
You collect essences to bring to one of three locations on the map that you then burn as an offering to an elder evil who then steals humanoids and drops them at that altar area for you to slaughter or enslave. They will try to kill you. Also, beasts and other things sometimes show up. Anyone can gank your summoned soon to be slaves tho.

There are several things to note about Siptah, it seems to be envisioned as a post game zone. Finding base Exiled Lands recipes is completely RNG gated. End game resources are spread evenly across the map. Depending on the server settings, about a fifth of the map is no build zone or is annoying to build in (the center, near the tower, building is often disabled during the Maelstrom).
Many areas that look like great build areas are no build zones for no discernable reason, no enemies spawn there, no interectable objects, just wide swathes of building not allowed.

There are only three and a half factions of NPC Humanoids other than those you summon.
Pirates, Stygians (stats like relic hunters but with their own armour style), and Accursed (carbon copies of Cimmerians, including gear and drops) and “Exiles”.

You will need a shovel.

This one’s favourite feature, there are cages with prisoners in them. If you rescue them, they become your followers, so you can have big damn hero moments.

Oh, and it comes with both Stormglass and Flotsam build sets

Overall, solid value for money in this one’s opinion.

One drawback is that it is rarely updated and any Age or Season events, if they aren’t skipped entirely, are only half @$$ implemented on the map.

The surge still exist on the shrines you can summon the surge to get good thralls like asier ive you have enough souls .

Its worth when you get it on sale.

I get all dlcs or expansions, no matter what game , on sale.

I just dont pay a monthly sub for MMOs anymore.

In my experience it’s fun to do the vaults and explore but the fun is short lived.

The map itself is beautiful, the thralls there are cool, but most of the content from recent chapters has been left out. They had the carts but no Bloodstone dungeon. There is no siege there currently.

It is an expansion but it ends up feeling like a child forgotten at the grocery store.

Oh, and unless it has been fixed the bench you use to get nice plans is utterly useless.

Siptah is a ton of fun to explore. The storyline of Siptah the sorcerer and the storyline of the elder races that came before are fun to piece together as you adventure through the lands. I think the issue it faces is that resources are plentiful almost everywhere, so you can often hang out complacently in one section of the map and never feel the need to expand farther out.

Which is a shame, because it has some really cool features that took me three play-throughs to actually find because I was happily mining everything I needed by the elder vault right outside my house.

You definitely will get your money’s worth in my opinion.

Compared to the crom coin ingame shop, the expansion is a steal even if not factoring the map in. Three armor sets, a really great building set, some other stuff.

The map… is nice, but weird, so it’s a matter of taste, I’d say. The Exiled Lands have a progression: desert, praerie, jungle, northern plains, snow, volcano.
The Isle of Siptah does not. It’s apparently set up more for endgame multiplayer gaming, including PvP: Resources are scattered across the map, so no one clan or player can monopolize a kind of resource.

It does have a story, but just as the map around it, it isn’t set up as a path leading through the map, but as hints scattered around in a large circle, without a clear beginning or end.

I, personally, like the map, for the way I use it: As an extension of the Exiled Lands, and island my character can travel to and back from.

I also played one or two games on the Isle of Siptah from start to finish. Works, too, but I miss parts of the Exiled Lands.

The map itself is quite nice. Some rather challenging outdoor regions especially in the south of the map. It’s a bit less lore-heavy, but more hack 'n slash. So, when you want to kill something without going to jail, this is a good place to do that.

I spent more time on Siptah than on EL. Overall I liked it better. 3 key points:

  1. More named NPCs
  2. Much more interesting are the legends that underlie it.
  3. More monsters!

I wouldn’t think twice. Always loved Siptah. Completely different experience.

Siptah reviews, eh?

OK 1) what style of play are you?

PVE and PVE-C? map has essentially biomes but it’s sort of static replication. The forest areas are all redwood everygreen syle trees unlike the diversity of shapes and sizes and branch formation in the jungle areas of EL. So yes you can build tree houses and due to the similarities and closeness of the tree, you can literally build towns in the sky with a consistent basis. But that consistent basis leads to boredom once you master it. Now there are also cliffs, plains, various small caves, dark volcanic area and desert like islands. Also you have 14 vaults that are essentially dungeons where you get extra perks and it’s can be fun for a bit. Resources are plenty and so you really don’t feel the survival aspects much after level 20.

PVP? This map just feels like it was designed to be a pvp map. Very reminiscent to battle royales in it’s circular nature and the center is where the action is. If you are a stealth PVPer, don’t bother. There are very limited spots where you can remain hidden. This map is more for those that want large in-your-face bases and defending/ assaulting said bases. Because the stealth game is practically non-existent in comparison to EL, if you aren’t there ready to defend, you will get offlined.

What finish?
That is one of this one’s bigger gripes, that there is no complete the journey and escape the island end. Unlike Exiled Lands where one finally gets rid of the bracelet, Siptah has no finish that this one has found.

What‘s also worth mentioning siptah doesn’t have a map room. For fast travel you have to use sorcery (teleport stone).

Its worth it if you buy it as a DLC, since you do get two building sets and some armor. That stuff can be used on any map, even custom ones. But if you’re looking for another map… then your mileage will vary. If you’re utterly bored of Exiled Lands, it can provide a decent experience.

However if you’re on PC I would recommend custom maps made by some excellent creators instead. Many of them have much of the unique content you see in both Exiled Lands and Siptah as well as their own.

What you describe is the Maelstrom. The Surge used to be tied to it, but now you just load an altar with essences, pull a lever and it’s raining men, hallelujah.

So the surge is a location-bound lottery machine for getting thralls who would otherwise be unavailable on Siptah.

The Maelstrom is the huge vortex centered on the Tower of Siptah that spawns creatures from other dimensions. It’s fun, and I regularly take my thralls in there for training. It can get pretty intense towards the end if a lot of critters spawn next to your location.

Personally, I love the Isle of Siptah as a Single-Player. Resources are more evenly distributed, there’s lots of room to build, and the scenery is beautiful.

Vaults are decent fun every now and then, although the critters there can be pretty grindy - they never heard of the NPC hitpoint rebalance while locked inside, obviously.

I made a return to the Exiled Lands for the Kurak dungeon, and I may do so again for the Siege. Funcom said they’d want to add the Siege to the Siptah map too, but didn’t have the time or resources to do so yet. So maybe it will get added at a later date, maybe not. The way I’ve heard, it’s not exactly solo-player material anyway.

The thing to note about Siptah: once you get used to the higher-level equipment, the Sigils that power you up, and the abundant resources, when you get back to the Exiled Lands, you will feel like Superman next to some Kryptonite when you no longer have all those superpowers.

It’s a much smaller map. So no need for world maps. The dungeons are very easy to solo. There are no purges to speak of. However there is the malestrom, which was fun at first but again got boring quick. I went back to Exiles. Overall, I didn’t hate siptah, but I got bored with it quickly.

Thanks for sharing your opinions all! It’s on a mild discount right now, so i think I’ll probably get it.
One more question:
When you say its End-game content, I assume that means your character can go back and forth between Siptah and EL. Can you bring resources and stuff back and forth in your own inventory? Can placed thrall followers follow you back and forth?

Unfortunately, you cannot currently move between Siptah and Exiled Lands. That feature used to exist, but it broke - characters got stuck between transfers, etc. No idea when, or if, it will be fixed.

Tragically, transfers are not an option.
There server transfers for awhile.
But alas.

Also, while Conan Exiles is a good game that has it within it to be an Excellent game… Frequently intent and implementation don’t align quite as tightly as this one would like.
