!Tot custom is invaluable. It cannot be understated how much it adds to the game, on both RP servers and otherwise. Conan is a great base, but !tot’s various additions are the ingredients that make the cake good, and put a cherry on top, for good measure.
Please work with the modder to ascertain what can be done to resolve this issue. As someone that isnt inclined to spend much money on the bazaar, I can attest that tot does not give you access to things you don’t pay for. And I’ve ended up buying a few packs because of seeing the fashion options displayed on tot placables on more than one occasion.
Tot really adds to your bottom line in many ways. I wouldn’t be playing if it wasn’t for the RP community and the RP community wouldn’t thrive without the customization and immersion offered by these mods.
I am also one of those server owners who does not want to live in a world without ToT custom. A lot of the enjoyment would be sucked out of the game for me and I have over 10k hours invested (not including money sunk into it) over the years. I am very disappointed in Funcom for not just simply reaching out to the mod author. Instead it had to be found out in the dark. Causing server owners like me to be stressed out and have a lot of hard discussions with people. I’m hoping things will get worked out so the mod can return. If it does not, a lot of money wasted and not a lot of promise for that money to continue going forward.
There is not much more to be said that hasn’t already been stated, but I will say a small piece.
As a server owner that keeps a close watch on the Conan RP community in general, the massive amount of feedback I’ve seen from server to server, including my own, is that should there be a lack of TotCustom, there will be a plethora of players letting the game go. While plenty write from a place of doomsday-ing for the purpose of making an ultimatum, there is a lot of truth behind the reasons.
Outside of that,
There is a discord server for CE server owners and admins alike that has Funcom representatives present.
There is a discord server for CE modders that has Funcom representatives present.
The information was available to find to talk to the modder directly with whatever appropriate party necessary. An email, a warning, a notice. None of the community had to be part of this process to make change, or find different solution to the issue. Instead, everyone that used this mod or played on a server that had this mod, is audience and victim to an outcome that no one understands the reason for. Had the ending been the same, where this mod was going to have no potential return, then at the very least, there would have been an explanation paired with the removal (provided to the modder to share), rather than everyone wondering what the big mystery is and being left to fill in the gaps, which will always be deduced with a negative, unfavorable light.
Hopefully the decision is reconsidered and a solution is found for all sides feeling burned.
The only thing Conan does better than Ark is graphics and text chat. Here’s a short list of things that Ark does better, and it is by no means comprehensive.
-Building pieces actually go where you want them
-The crafting systems aren’t unnecessarily large and convoluted (Like, seriously, 15 types of hide?)
-Server performance is better in every way
-Server fps doesn’t crumble when you hit player number 41 (Servers can handle up to 200 people)
-You can start with nothing in terms of thralls (dinos) and work your way up to better ones, instead of being on an eternal hunt (Breeding for stats)
-Combat is not a mess of rubberbanding even on low population servers
-Combat is far more streamlined and skill based, rather than personal lag based
-There are MANY more maps to play on than the same 3 over and over with various small additions to one of the three (Sapphire and other non SW modded maps simply don’t function well enough to stick to)
-Voice chat offers various ranges, instead of one consistent range (Whisper, Speak, Shout)
Here’s a short list of what Conan does better, and it is comprehensive.
-Text chat is nicer
-Character customization/Graphics are better
I’m literally here for the graphics and character customization - Something the CE: Races mod on Ark does better than IQOL and other non Tot Custom mods on Conan. Lacking that, I can’t actually think of a reason to stick with Conan when Ark does… Quite literally everything SFW better.
Take a look at the Sponsored Mods program. They ~actually support their modders~. Every month they pick a few modders and ~pay them to continue developing those mods~, and it’s not an insignificant amount ($5000 USD). Imagine the wonderful things Conan would have if Funcom cared half as much.
Someone on Reddit posting about this, implied that it wasn’t Funcom who did this…
It was their Chinese parent company… Tencent; who wants to find a way to make us PAY for features like this. Its like the 3rd reply down on this reddit post.
You know, as somebody who has not a lot happening in my life due to various personal reasons, Conan was a way to connect with people and make friends. Funcom’s highly questionable decision to remove probably one of the best RP mods on the workshop has not only put a nail in the coffin for the Roleplay community, but even PVP communities. Sometimes people join a server with DND-style content and want to be a dragonborn, or an elf, or they want their thralls to look less like they got hit in the face with a sack of wet potatoes.
With the removal of Tot!Custom, not only is everybody’s customizations at risk (which for me is well in the dozens of hours just for my character alone), but it also has me seriously questioning why I should even keep the game installed at this point when I could use the disk space.
Look Funcom, I’m not gonna beg. If you want my money you’ll have to stop messing with the modders that actually saved your game from becoming irrelevant a long time ago.
