What is the best way to track down someone’s base that ambushed you? I read their info from the event log after they killed me, but I’ve never seen one of their bases.
If it’s a large clan and they seem to be skilled, chances are they’re meshed.
In PVP people who aren’t meshed actually hide their bases unless they’re confident. If I were looking for someone, first thing I do is foundation sweep. Run around with construction hammer out, with a foundation selected. When you run into “this land is already claimed” identify the claiming structure and continue on. Scour the map.
Scouting can be a very interesting activity; in my case, it’s exciting and fulfilling. Generally if I was on a server for a few weeks I knew where everyone was and could anticipate based on available build spots, known hidden base locations and their behaviour where they’d end up next.
The best tool is literally a tool: the build hammer. Bring it out and ghost a foundation then you’ll be able to detect where anyone is built for the most part*. Otherwise, any placeable will do. Before AoS I always had some type of vase or pot in my personal chest for this. A bedroll will work just fine.
Maximizing your success requires a little prep but can be easy. You can run off in rags and use your eyes but you’re not going to be as successful. You will need to set aside time and willingness though. If you’re lucky you’ll find them right away but sometimes it’s the last place you’d think they’d be.
Looking on Youtube for popular hidey holes is helpful.
Now this is all barring the possibility that they are undermeshed. Also, looking on Youtube for known (recent) undermesh spots is helpful.
Scouting should be done when there’s less players online and not during combat/raid time if you’re looking to be as sneaky as possible. However, since there’s great possibility of running into other players you’ll have to choose running vs. fighting. That is up to you. But if you’ve found anyone’s base that were looking to hide and they see you, the cat is out of the bag.
When discovering a base always whip out your repair hammer to see if they’re home and know that currently refreshing on some servers/builders can be accomplished by anyone as it is bugged. Listen to hear chests opening and closing, thralls following, vocalization from a character. When you’re close, crouch to minimize the sounds you make and avoid jumping around so they don’t hear your grunts. Listening can also tell you if there’s production.
Minimal complement for scouting is:
• agility based non-epic armor
• food and water or something as simple as gruel
• build and repair hammers
• agility weapon
• climbing boots and gloves
• weak or aloe pots
• hot food or alcohols
The above is what I’d use if I didn’t care to lose as much or if I’m just starting out on a server.
Maximum complement:
• good light armor that offers either bonuses to agility, stamina, climbing or resistances. If you can use vagabond armor this was my favorite, you’ll be really fast. Add gliding joints and/or use spiderclimb and/or gloves of Jhil. Having a resistance armor such as dragonscale helm with gliding joints on wheel will protect you from all heat and cold. Dye it all black.
• if you don’t have dragonscale take a stack of firewater and half stack of ice
• if you don’t have access to most of the above, use skelos cultist master with gliding joints
• legendary agility weapon
• stack of concentrated or pure aloe extract
• build and repair hammers
• feasts to regen stam
• a wand and some bags to fly with bat for longer distances and/or the invisibility spell. The invisibility spell afaiac is not long enough and players can see you if they’re looking.
• cleansing brew if you do use spells
• before leaving use potions for stam/agility and bring a few of each for to consume in an hour
Make sure you can summon corpse because dying can happen easily. Either slipping off a cliff in the volcano into lava or accidentally discovering an exposed mesh spot that kills you instantly. Not only does this help you to recover you don’t want your body lying about for anyone to discover.
The attributes you choose will be dependent on your tastes and preferences but generally you want speed. I’ll either go 20 20 20 SAV or AVE. Some people prefer grit but it doesn’t do much for you in a PVP environment. Maximizing your efficiency will help by having Quickfooted and I prefer Extended Leap. Survivalist from Expertise doesn’t seem like its a big deal but you think less about your hunger and thirst.
It is up to you if you want Expertise/Beast of Burden. I usually do because if I happen on a decayed base or one that has holes and I don’t care about being in their logs, I’ll be able to bring home what I find. As long as I have spec’d for agility and vitality and ensure I’ve included the complement of good PVP agility armor and buffs, I’ll be able to hold my own in 1v1s and sometimes 1v2s. Plus, I’m a sneaky little slippery snake and can get out of most situations if I want to.
*Now as for detecting land claim in most situations. Land claim has it’s radius depth of approximately 7 foundations on the x and z axis but for y is from bottom to top of map. There are many places on the map that you can still build and not be detected, especially around and in the volcano where proximity to the highest building points are more than the land claim radius. You’ll have to climb.
Couple of tips:
• just because you found land claim and can’t see them doesn’t mean they’re exploiting or undermeshing, exhaust all possibilities first. I.e.,… see landclaim around a tree and you climb up, might be in one of the branches.
• most placeables don’t have land claim, this means that making a concerted effort to search every nook and cranny is advisable. Your target could be living out of chests in a crack or depression in terrain anywhere.
• start with the greenwall first and go all around, I’ve found 80% of anyone I was looking for this way
• if you want to run, being chased and pretty sure you’re going to die? Jump into the greenwall if you’re close by. They’d have to wait for your body to become a bag before getting your stuff which affords you time to summon. Cheeky, a bit underhanded but gotta do what you gotta do sometimes.
• use your map markers
• get familiarized with the build height
• make absolutely sure you check who owns any base you find, raiding or engaging friends or someone you don’t want to touch is not a good feeling after the fact
If you think they are studing your base to raid it, you can wait on top of a mountain or in a high place… it’s a long time… but maybe you can see someone spotting surrounding the camp… so, follow them…
You can move arround to spot players, try the paths you use, the normal or usual paths that people use to move around different areas of the map…wait near where you were killed.
I think it’s the best option, just observe from the top of some place…
Be sure you see down at the botton animals moving or anything…sometimes, from a long range you can not see anything moving. Is not spawned for you due to a long range.
Other option is to do nothing, just taking normal care with other players…prepare you base…and wait…
Maybe is just a player who finds funny fight against others players more than fight against bosses…even me is better than A.I.
Talk to him normally, well, calling him “bastard” as a funny joke!!
If someone want to raide you, this will happen…
Maybe are normal raiders,or players who like to do a raid with normal attributes, normal explosives…with levelled thralls and a T4 base you can resits one attack or two.
If they are a raider´s clan…with the “top to the top” weight attribute in one member,“top to the top” strenght other member, etc…and killer thralls…in that case you need more people, and…be in the server when they, finally choose to raid you.
3-5 guys will blown away enought base and kill enought thralls to stay some months out the game…
Or what you are trying, find them and raid them.
You can also hide crouched behind the bushes, naked or with others colors in your armour, they don’t see you!!!
Trick:Fall from high up and leave interesting things on the corpse, several so that he has to look… wait hidden between a wall and a bush… and when you see someone looking… kill him…poisoned steel daggers with penetration kit applied, normal one with 10% penetration…they bleed out opponent very fast!!!
If you notice, players usually go through some paths, not all of them…
I’m a FREAK and I use different paths than others!!!
you can use a mix of picitsh wizard armor mixed with a few other sets for excellent stalking gear, dye to match terrain. may take a few tries but ultra effective
I have my settings on low so it gets rid of the (admittedly beautiful) clutter. So I can see people hiding in bushes ^^
It’s better to emote to lying down within a rock.
I´m a fair player,i know that nasty cheat from shooters…i play with sunrays and things like that, and,i prefer gamma settings a little bit down that default settings, brightness and contrast too…less gamma, less brightness and a little more contrast…i use medium/high settings so tweaking those three settings you can have a cool image from game, darker but prettier…armours and bazar items are not cool on low settings!!!
Sooooo…that was that girl´s trick…sooo that´s why she run off very quick from there after trying to hit me…it was night, she was playing on low settings,i was playing with darker settings but don´t use torch,so i took the torch out and she, simply, was blinded, was dazzled, it was like a flash grenade.
Or maybe what makes she run was that difficult to find weapons kit,i don´t even know if it is a bug,i found a corruption kit to applie to weapons and i was carring a Dragon axe with that kit!!!
In Conan Exiles i play darker and still can walk without torch,in sigle player and PvP…to avoid someone spotting you…just need to take care with high mountains, using as reference, them and other high and elevated places to direct you or looking at the ground,at the north or in the jungle, to don´t fall down and things like that.
Now i play without health bar,i changed my singleplayer server and in multiplayer you can not see enemies health bars…so,neither if it is a T4 enemy.
Weird and freak, but i think is more funny…and dangerous!!!
I hear ya, if I could play high with all effects (my PC is capable) on Officials I would. But I’ve learned if I want a reasonably stable experience I have to have settings on low. No problems playing high in SP. Cinematic pushes too hard and I’ve had no desire to upgrade as the gameplay was more important to me than if something looked really nice.
Learning that low and removing most effects showed otherwise “hidden” things was a bonus.
But by far not a cheat.
I didn´t mean to call you cheater…i know that laggy servers sometimes,i don´t know now if still there are servers with 70 slots…or i,really, don´t know the number of slots now,50?Maybe…it´s must be something not about the number of players but something else…i have got Lagg issues with 2-3 or maybe less than 8 players and with more than 20…other times with full capacity,40 slots, was fine…not laggy…but i know that problem…world time adjustements?,ping?..incorrect M.A.C. direction?Bad phisical phone lines?..and also Hackers/cheaters…i have read about them but never meet them…good players are not cheaters but killers!!!
I use medium settings to avoid that…in others games too…with 64 members each team, and with those bugs and Lag errors too…and that so big update fix log…but i like to see the most cool i can without any Ping,Lag loss.
Oh, when done precisely, you can still hide fairly well. (I played for 3 years on laptop min). It takes a lot of dye experiments and armor looks to perfect. I will try and make a guide for the forums sometime if you’d like.
Seeing you’re on Xbox, temporarily add them to your friends list, then you can track them down when they’re on Conan
Bear in mind that could also backfire and aid them in dodging you. As an avid roleplayer, I find it far more satisfying to avoid metagaming, rendering the takedown all the more impressive. I recommend Cerontheses videos, he’s a master of pure skill ownage and revenge.
There’s an ‘appear offline’ option for Xbox
Ah okay I was unaware.
How do you know it’s them from far away?
I’m not sure what you mean.
There is no name over the character. If I see someone running around… how do I know it’s them until I’m close enough to lock on?
You can’t other that their known visual appearance. If you know their preferences in color, armor and weapons you might be able to deduce.
There´s no way.Just follow him from a distance to spot where he goes,if he goes to a base, take out you building hammer to know who he is.
Maybe Funcom is making changes, yesterday with building hammer in my hand my own constructions were not shown,no owner!!!..mine,so i don´t know if something is changing…maybe for better,in my opinion,as the rest of the update,in my opinion too.
To follow someone is sometimes difficult…if you are not sure where he turn, stay in the way you have lost him…i mean…you are somewhere, then spot someone and follow him…you run a distance,he take a path you are not sure or jump and fall quickly and can not see where he goes…try to spot from where you have come, stay there, find a better spot covering where you lost him…maybe he go again that way and can follow him further away. It´s a very long time.
Or just attack him…if he is not the one you are searching,DON´T TAKE the equipement and THE MOST,DON´T thrown it to ground…just type something funny…maybe he will not take revenge, just try to kill you if you both cross the same place.
Maybe with an arrow,if you hit him…damage bar will be shown…but i´m not sure if you will spot the name or even damage bar will be shown,it depends on the distance.
