That surprises me the most, to be honest. They’re worst than awol in the swl section, and that is a bar set really high…
What these people seem to ignore is it wasn’t some standalone issue, it was a change.
Pretty dumb to defend something with ‘haha f2p leech scrubs’ and ‘this is business’ if it’s a change - wasn’t it a business too during all those years, when the event mounts were usable to everyone, right from Tortage?
Many players used to log back during these events, roll a new character and level up. For them the mount was a nice convenience bonus, no walking-only until 40, just ride everywhere from the start. You could saw every time in similar events that Tortage was stuffed with new, low level characters.
Those players were kicked to the curb with this change, and mind you they are not just free players. You could be even a subscriber with thousands of golds on your other alts, this mount is still just a useless junk on your new character.
Which gets to the point of CaoCao, the false advertising. They promoted this event the same way as all the others in the previous years.
Never said, nowhere, that the mount will be unusable to anyone below 80. The first time you noticed it was when you claimed it on your character - and ofc then it was already too late, even if you have 80s with advanced riding you couldn’t pass it over to them. Just a junk dead weight in your inventory.
Not a surprise though, it is just the usual Funcom way: oversilence any bad changes, hide under the rug until the ragestorm fades, and let the fluffers and forum warriors to defend any negative moves. Not just this one (the total absence of any form of response on the issue), they always do it.
The Nebless mentioned Vanaheim, the (crap, debuffed) T5 items as sub reward, etc.
Funcom’s “solution” is always just to ignore all comments long enough until the players move on to some new topics.
I have no idea what was their goal with this change, why put the gift mount behind advanced riding.
At the next event I definitely won’t create a new character, instead I will just log in a few times to spread out the expertise points among the existing ones and then leave.
Over the years, these events were a nice incentive to a lot of players for returning to the game. I guess that’s over, nobody will trust in the “… and a free mount!” promise again.
