Bookcases? Really?

So it was P2W because PVPers could store more using less? Sorry, but I am a bit confused on this.

On the contrary. The free items store more than the battlepass ones.
But I am annoyed because the battlepass cupboards are massive in size, so its illogical that they store less than the physically smaller containers.

I could be wrong, but whether you use 5 crates or 1 with 5 times the capacity, you are loading the same amount of inventory regardless when it renders in. In fact, I would expect greater lag from rendering in fewer, more compact high density storage since everything contained will load the moment that box comes into range.

My understanding was always this, that the items in the containers were the lag culprits, not the containers themselves. Correct me if I am wrong.

The more placeables you have to more lag is most likely generated. The take away is… stop hording useless junk.

No nerf everything!!! We get banned when someone looses a fight so the server stress works it’s self out.

I find it funny when you bring in pvp when it’s convenient for you all but for this nerf like all nerfs is funcoms doing. Maybe if you ask for a buff now they will listen though💪

You do have all our support and all our love and you know it! Would be wrong to do a suggestion here? Next time you will decide that you want to do something, please ask for our opinions too, only if you want not because you have to!
The Arcane “chests” are literally huge and cannot be attached close to benches. Which means that the space that they consume is almost 2 foundations wide and they cannot be placed if they don’t find at least 2 walls high! In this space I can fix chests to gain at least 3 times the capacity of an Arcane cupboard. So.
Wouldn’t be best to raise the cost of construction than “nerf” the capacity of these beautiful items? People will always cry for pay to win my dear Mayra no matter what. Yes, in a game that someone spend literally a lifetime and he - she could play ONLINE for a few decades of Euros, we have complains for pay to win… Omg. I do understand that for the “western” Economy this game is not expensive but for other Countries it may be very expensive, I have friends from Brazil too telling me that one dlc costs there 50 euros and not 10, which is expensive for me too. It’s a gaming company not Troika! Funcom all these years try hard for us, it’s obvious. I play a lot games, online games and I felt robbed, not in this game. @speedice send me a message with my hours in this game some months ago and the amount that I payed so far for all these hours is like I robbed you, not the opposite.
This item made us really happy!
This item made us reorganize our bases and change our building styles.
Above all, now we are about to quit a nusty habit that all the grinders have and effect the server performance very much.
We NEED to have at least a chest full from every single item this game has. These cupboards released me from this idiotic habit. Please don’t take me back. Thank you for your time and excuse me for the tag.
Ofcurce we love you and will support all your decisions nonetheless!

I’m of the unpopular opinion that the cabinets and bookshelves needed a nerf, but they didn’t need to be nerfed into the ground. Funcom needs to take into account the size of them vs. the storage potential. These things are now a huge waste of space.

Nice job (no)funcom on ■■■■■■■■ up the only decent thing in the cash store or battlepass - A M A Z I N G Fail.

Unfortunately, in your quest to

you have harmed those who did. I received the Curio Cabinet from the Battle Pass. The bookshelf from the Bazaar is very similar. Both are overly large, and are the second smallest for storing items per container.

I can turn cabinets sideways and get three on one foundation, or do the same with chests. Also, at two wall heights, I can add a ceiling piece to do it twice.

Storage Comparison on a 1w x 2t space vs cost (no stacking, on floor and ceiling only)
Large Crate - 2 @ 50 slots = 100 Free in game
Small Crate - 6 @ 20 slots = 120 Free in game
Wooden Box - 6 @ 20 slots = 120 Free in game
Chest - 6 @ 45 slots = 270 Free in game
Cabinet - 6 @ 45 slots = 270 Free in game
Eldarium Chest Small 6 @ 50 slots = 300 DLC purchase (Siptah)

Arcane - 1 @ 40 slots = 40 (Battle Pass or Bazaar) BUT, I need 2 wide

Players bought the item because of the storage. I personally eliminated 300 placeables from my base with the additional storage, even though I did not particularly care for the look of the Curio Cabinet, or it’s size. I had to rebuild some areas to handle the height.

However, the rendering was greatly affected for the better by the reduction. But, If I have to rip out the ugly things to put in old, chipped up cabinets (would it kill you to make better looking cabinets?), I will do so, because the Arcane pieces just aren’t worth the space for what you get.

This is their only option when it comes to nerfs pvp to pve they have no concept of balance

You are correct in a way , but containers do have an inpact too , just swap all you decorative planters to real planters with only a single plant in it , you’ll see that containers are taxing too even if almost empty . The real question that needs experimentation is does one large , well detailed , light emiting storage unit full of things tax less than than the same things stored in multiple , less detailed , non light emiting storage boxes . :speak_no_evil: :see_no_evil: :hear_no_evil:

Actually a large chest has 45 slots so it would be like 4½ of those to get 200 slots… I know minor detail, but for example the Arcane Curio Cabinet takes up way more space than stacked chests offering the same amount of space, also it is a very detailed and complex model with animated lights, I’m guessing that even 6 chests would be less taxing than 1 of those cabinets.

However all that said, I don’t really see any P2W or other advantages to those over chests, heck even Siptah has chests with more space in them than regular chests, also Funcom really need to add proper information on what people are buying from their Bazaar and don’t change things far down the road because “Not intended”, it is simply misleading and frustrate those that bought the item because it had those 200 slots - They are not doing themselves any favor by waiting so long to change an item

That kind of implies people constrain themselves to a fixed square footage… which they dont. They just build as much as they “need” and fill it up.

Popularity doesn’t equate to validity.

I used the storage and light source in my stuff and it is something that I have that does this easier for me, so I can see the p2w argument
But also see how easily the normal items can provide equivalent storage

They should…because IMHO, going outside of a zone means you are exposed and therefore your removal is just a matter of when and not if.

The nerf was definitely not PvP driven. These cabinets were huge and had very low hp. RPers usually use mods and have much better storage options. Instead of nerfing their capacity, Funcom could have increased the costs to make them … but they decided to nerf them in a way so that no one gets tempted to spend money purchasing them.

That’s another perfectly reasonable way to remove the so-called “P2W advantage” the curio cabinet and the arcane bookcase are supposed to have.

Honestly, the more you look at the damn thing, the more it seems like yet another exaggeration by the Nerf Brigade, and the less obvious it is what the P2W advantage is supposed to be.

Is it the storage density per volume occupied? No, it’s not, as @speedice’s excellent analysis shows.

Is it the health? It has only 5000, as opposed to 25000 of the large chest.

Is it the illumination? It’s not like you can’t craft a variety of light sources to place near or on other containers.

Is it the material cost? The bookcase is only 80 wood and the curio cabinet is 40 wood, 50 stone, and 10 iron bars, but cost itself is not a useful measure. Cost-per-health doesn’t really look unbalanced, but cost-per-slot ratio can be considered a slight advantage.

So the only real advantage you can see up to this point is the material cost, and that could have been adjusted just as easily as the number of slots.

Here’s where the real advantage lies and it seems like we’re all beating around that particular bush and trying not to talk about that particular elephant in the room: stability bugs.

Come on, let’s face it, that’s the only real advantage these items can. If you want to build storage for 200 slots in comparable volume, you’ll have to stack chests, and we all know that means that there’s a chance of losing a whole bunch of stuff because Funcom still hasn’t ironed out all the stability bugs, and they most likely never will.

:man_shrugging:

Honestly, ever since this whole BP and BLB fustercluck started, I’ve been feeling like we’re being handed one juicy :fu: after another. I’m starting to wonder whether it’s always been like that, and I’m only more sensitive now because money is involved more closely than before.

As a slow-learner PvPer, we know when vaults are “full” when they take longer to load. Or when chests are “full” there’s a lag while pulling up its health. These are indicative of the problem: the more occupied slots, the harder it is on the server and client resources.

There was a similar problem in SCUM recently: with an upgrade in storage slots in the world, all city assets now took 1.66X the effort to pre-load. So every time you drove past a city or big enemy cache, you’d be alerted. It happens.

Therefore a 200-item bookcase loaded to the brim would be pretty taxing. I’m with @LostBrythunian on simply conforming storage to what we get in the base game (slot wise.) Also on the disclosure bit.

I mean… I thought they were joking with this
Why?.. because when it first appeared on the scene there were already cries about the Curio cabinet and we had a few threads here in which even regular PvP players said that it’s a joke and they can stack chests in that footprint to store way more stuff and have way more protection for their items so it’s more like “pay to lose”

“Cancel culture” is hitting the land of Conan hard though  Nerf this… nerf that… I’m starting to feel like Funcom is in the wrong “zone” when it comes to taking feedback… they should either toughen up and ignore all the cries equally and just be more stubborn and do whatever they want… OR find some more organized and balanced approach of taking community feedback and not just the “whoever yells the loudest” even if it’s the same person over and over… This way it always takes them several tries till they even start approaching the mark

I try to give people the benefit of the doubt and I know a lot of times players jump at devs driven mainly by frustration and often unfairly blame them or even start organizing the riot to pick up pitchforks just because they had some inconvenience…
However… I’m not entirely sure what’s been going on there lately… what I do know is that for this particular “major fix” of the Arcane bookshelf… Dana had to press more keys to type up the patch note entry than what it took to make the change… while other similarly trivial changes are still being waited on. :joy: I’m just saying I feel like we’re slowly running out of what the “we had to release the update ahead of time” can cover…

What we could use is chests that can be wall mounted. I miss my organization of mats with chests balanced on shelving.
