i have played 1500+ hours, and played in every area. i know of plenty of locations, but in reality, everyone can be found. And that is as it should be. If you have a spot and have not been found, its because they aren’t really looking. Its called foundation combing. Get a foundation, select from hot wheel, and start running around. You will come across “land is claimed” warnings. Then boom, look around and you will see where they are.
Also need to delay the log, so prevent it being used as a signal which farmbase is under attack.
No, I disagree. No delays.
If players are “babysitting” the event log, then they get to find out when people are attacking / stealing. If you don’t babysit your event logs, then you are at a disadvantage. That is simply how it is.
It is like a hacking tool. I am sure that people would get banned for unfair advantages of something like this would be stemming from a third-party log script.
It is totally breaking the competitive aspect of managing several places around the map.
Let’s say I built a couple of vaults at a location. I place some skulls on top and next to them. I live on another place of the map. Now I just need to check the event log every couple of minutes. Skull shows up–> vaults are under attack. I go to the next obelelisc immediately and repair those vaults and defend them. This is really lame. Seriously
That is using placables to strategic advantage.
If you are striking someone who has placed tell-tales, then have one person destroy their tell-tales in the decoy raid location, and then high tail it to the actual planned raid location.
If porting becomes a problem, strike at or close down the public map rooms. Knowing that someone is damaging you when they are damaging you is not exploitative, nor does it damage the competitive aspect of the game. If the event log is ruinous and spoiling for your attacks, then adapt. Come up with a different SOP that allows you to leverage their logs as a gain to your tactics. Also, read some Sun Tzu.
I do adapt, but from your own workarounds - do you realise how the whole raiding meta becomes a hassle with avoiding the log to show proper info? This is one thing that I find especially annoying. Straight forward raiding is much more balanced.
I believe that you and I, sir, will simply have to disagree.
Think about it in the reverse. If someone is sinking your assets, and you’re out thralling in New Asagarth, how long of a delay would be “fair” until you have some kind of an indication that your stuff is being destroyed? One minute? Five minutes? Ten minutes? How much of a “head start” do you allow raiders before you are allowed the opportunity to go and defend your stuff via PvP combat? Or, should they be allowed to raid you (while you happen to be online, defending the raid window) with no risk of alerting you to their nefarious strike?
How is any kind of delay, falsehoods, or anti-transparency in the event logs helpful to the spirit of the game? Would you prefer for someone to just raid you, take all of your $*%&, and then just wonder about whodunnit? There is probably an opportunity here for a private server setting, or perhaps mods to add blinders to the event logs. For Official Online PvP… the only way I see it to be totally fair is to simply own your damage.
I have literally been 3 minutes behind raiders before. When I showed up, they were already gone, on to the next target. It was exciting. And when I did finally catch up with the raiders, an epic, totally chaotic defensive battle ensued. I repelled the attackers, about 1v5, me as the solo player. It was fun for everyone, spicy as hell, but they ended up coming back and sacking the asset that they were working on. My defending made the game interesting, and they had to regroup since they were not prepared or organized to raid against a defending player. Probably the most fun I have had in this game to date.
In my opinion like 2 hours
Don’t go farming so far out if you fear raiders. Adds thrill to the game when fear each homecoming.
I mean, I really think a log is a debugging tool and should not interfere with the gameplay in any way except telling you ‘build smarter’.
I always teeter on the fence on this, but i firmly believe if you remove event log, remvoe player list as well. True scouting needed that way. Raiders should be just as ignorant to what is out there.
Both of these can be hidden game logs for bug reports btw.
Yes, I would rather come back to a surprise theft. It would mean I didn’t guard my stuff well enough. I would learn from my mistakes, build a better base, and continue on.
On the inverse, if someone or a large clan were to cause me trouble or be problematic for my allies, l’d wait for an opportune moment to get even in such a way they’d never know who did it. Only that their base of operations has been trashed and they’re naked in the desert for some reason.
That’s how I did it before the event logs when the balance of power was more evenly distributed.
Besides, event logs support clutter by allowing clans to efficiently maintain multiple holdings.
Just this! Imo the more stuff u built the harder it should be to keep track of your belongings. But with the event log, the amount of work you gotta invest to check on each stronghold just remains the same.
Also a friendly reminder that the player list is just good for offline raiding. I don’t know why funcom wants us to track that our enemies are really all offline …
Event log showing PvP related activity is inarguably a crutch that needs to be removed. It vastly favors alpha clans over smaller groups giving them further advantage that they do not need.
I disagree. I played on a server run by a streamer. In fact, several other streamers were also active on the server. Despite being PvP, it was a very friendly community. No one wanted to merge clans as each streamer liked creating and showing off their own base and did not want disruption. However, many liked to work together to complete various challenges. The player list let us see who was online and might want to join in.
I prefer fewer immersion-breaking elements sch as logs, personally for my game style, but I can understand the practicality of it. @Critter667 just reminded me of the early disconnection between players, when those who watched the Steam list like hawks had advantage. It often came down to haves and have-nots, and an unfair leg-up for people like me with several computers, let alone monitors. Thus B was born.
That sounds like a nightmare server, which is basically a PvE server except for new players or chinese players join, who have no ties with the popular clans.
I really don’t understand why people play on a PvP server if they don’t want any disruption. Also various challenges… sounds like you miss the center point of the game.
However regarding your statement that you need the player list for joining into friendly activities… this can be organised on discord and there is really no need to give people an insanely powerfull griefing tool at hand for that.
I am also uncomfortable with the steam list on battlemetrics, but there you can hide your identity, which funcom won’t allow us to do.
Thanks Funcom this will give the game a lot.
Hey all,
We added a poll to get more feedback on this issue. Please take a time and vote in this thread. Thank you!
NO cause now with no name everyone pays for one person stupidity guy killed my camel I didn’t know who guess what had to happen to keep myself safe.
How about you dont play with so much trigger, if you gonna attack the server over a camel, it’s your problem.
The event log is a mistake, its a debug tool that should never have made it into the live game. Nobody has a crystal ball to magically know who stolen your fish from fish traps.
I wish Funcom would step up and admit they made an error enabling the event log on live servers and remove it altogether.
