Dune: Awakening

When you presume something you assume something. The terms are virtually synonyms.

Is an assumption, not a fact.

But you played it so not dead. Go play radical Heights, tell me how that goes. THAT is a dead game.

Based on how you were posting I thought it was a fairly safe assumption.
Am I wrong?

That associates is from 35 years ago. GWbasic is a long dead language, MSdos is like Latina for PCs. Any one can learn to model, UVmap, texture, and animate. The apps are free and all it takes is initiative and understand.
You know this if my previous assumptions were incorrect.

:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

My point being you seem to young to remember when games where released on CD, finished, out of development, never to be fixed or updated. By your definition games were released dead.

remember when this topic was about dune awakening andd not my personal education? fun times

I see, cosmetics are more important than than good gameplay.
consistency, focus, balancing and fixing bugs or broken mechanics is overrated!
Why didn’t i think of this?! :joy:

We take an insane amount of time to farm weapons and thralls and other stuff like REPAIR KITS, remember them?
But no, they just decided to change already existing mechanics, what is basically a big middle finger to their players.

A very important thing for a video game is accessibility, but changing numbers and basic gameplay elements all the time just adds confusion.
I feel really bad for those guys that have to keep the CE-wiki up to date btw.
And players feel cheated because all they grinded for is not the same anymore! :man_shrugging:

But if you have cosmetics and that’s all you want… good for you :+1:
Tell me, how much did you already spend on the bazar?

If you check funcom is doing a dune fashion show on the Dune discord.
I’m along for the ride, I know what to expect of funcom, so if it’s a good game I wont be put off that easily

I think i‘m just done with funcom at this point.
CE had a great concept but was horribly executed.
After 6 years i have enough, and the majority of players is not that patient to wait 6 years only to get disappointed every time they add something.

I hope the players won’t forget all this, and don’t allow funcom to fool them ever again.

It’s a sandbox multiplayer survival game. Including multiple worlds would be close to impossible. That would work for a RPG like Starfield, not this game. Then again many wanted DA to be a RPG. Not me though, I think Arrakis is the perfect setting for a multiplayer survival game. There are many distinct factions, several crucial resources to compete for and a very harsh environment with serious survival challenges. I think this game can be very good - the question is if Funcom can pull it off. I’m hopeful - but not at all certain…

…but then you can murder someone and steal their already recycled urine and feces!

You know this is conflicting, right? The game has lasted this long isn’t a failure but a success.

There will be 1000+ players on a server The map is very big. That actually use AI optimised compression to keep the download size of the terrain files at a reasonable level. ? I am not sure if we can build all over because there will be non PvP zones and then there is no building on sand in the open desert. The devs said that there will be seamless transition from walking to riding a san buggy to flying an ornithopter. Water discipline is to be important to keep your strength and stamina, but you won’t die right away if you don’t have any discipline. There will be old imperial research stations all over the map where you can find valuable resources. Progression will to a certain extent rely on using spice on a regular basis to learn faster. Spice will also be an important part of the in-game economy. All this is discussed in an interview with the devs: Dune Awakening - Web Resources

This is the sort of thing I realized a few years ago. There was a point in time where even I was like, CE is probably on its last leg. This was near the end of the summer of 2018. Where the numbers were dipping at their lowest. At time I was playing on a unmodded server that routinely was full at 70 players during primetime (you’d have to remember to login early to get a spot), and 40+ during off hours. And then it just died.

Looking at the server list was pretty bleak. Unmodded servers in general were just dead at the time. The server tried a few mods to see if people would come back, but the numbers never really did. Instead I moved to another server that seemed to have a decent population but even it was a shadow of what it was.

For some reason despite those odds, the game rebounded. It never went back to that low point for the next 5 years. Now this sort of follows the population trends. But those don’t always tell the whole story. In the lowest point that I’ve seen Conan I would say the population was at its lowest point, and at the same time, spread out. Which made the multiplayer experience pretty underwhelming.

There’s been some lows since then. But from what my memory tells me, the servers I played on afterwards usually stayed full. And I do remember there being quite a few servers competing for highest players indicating that the playerbase wasn’t so spread out. So while the game has had its low points. They weren’t as catastrophic as the ones at the end of summer in 2018.

We haven’t seen a low point ever since Isle of Siptah. That isn’t exactly a positive comment towards IoS since I do think that just a correlation at best (I don’t have a high opinion of IoS as a concept, even if I do like the map, just being honest). But over all the game has had a healthy total population (on PC) for quite a few years.

So with al that said. Why do people say this is the most horrible game ever? How do you all play a game that is so unfun, unfair, anti-consumer, broken, glitchy, developed by horrible human beings, and is generally regarded as a waste of time?

I’ve seen excuses such as there isn’t any other games out there like it. That its Conan. That the graphics are great. And so on. Here’s the thing… there’s dozens of games like it. Conan is just a generic Sword and Sorcery (how its applied as a game) that has been done hundreds of times, and its graphics are 2015. All the things that the detractors actually say about the game are almost objectively wrong.

When I encounter a bad game. I don’t sit there for years on their forums saying how bad it is, and continue to play for thousands of hours. For example, the game New World. My friends and I played that when it came out, and had a little fun with it, until I guess around level 40 or so (I think max is 60?). And then we got bored and moved on. Beautiful game. Combat was sort of interesting. Characters looked great. But the content was boring.

What did we do? Uninstalled. Left a review and dumped it. Haven’t posted in their forums or even in steam comments. Wasn’t worth the effort.

Oh well that’s easy, right? We only had around a 100 hours or so. Not thousands. No sunk cost fallacy (which by the way isn’t an excuse, and something you should actually avoid doing), affecting the judgement.

I’m don’t play World of Warcraft anymore. Despite having characters that have way more hours played into them than all of mine in Conan Exiles combined. The moment that game got boring and the moment Blizzard turned to crap. Left it, no problem. No issue with doing so.

Same thing with Everquest 1 and 2 on their live servers. Now those two games I wouldn’t say are bad in themselves. But due to both games being out for over 20 years, they are bloated with unnecessary content and itemization bloat that takes the fun out of it. The games themselves are actually quite fun. And I do on occasion enjoy new TLP (EQ1) or TLE (EQ2) server. And both those games I probably have characters with 7-10k hours played (on the character alone). Some of which I’ve deleted recently on EQ2 to make room on the roster for the TLE server.

But this just goes to show that my standard for a game being relevant to me is very strict. If a developer goes down a route that I think is wrong. They will get dumped quickly. People shouldn’t be meandering on a game they don’t like for days… much less weeks, months, or years.

But I would say most don’t. What we see is a bit of sensationalism. Conan Exiles is genuinely a good game. There isn’t a game in my Steam library that even comes close to the time played. Empyrion and Space Engineers are at 1200 and 900 hours themselves which together is only a third. And those two games cheat, since design sucks up so much of the time played. Conan would too for its building if I didn’t streamline it with 3rd party tools. It would be bloated probably by another 50% otherwise.

But I mean if you think CE sucks. Play another game. If you think Funcom sucks, then play games by other companies. It really is that simple.

Don’t be buying and playing Dune Awakening if any of the above sentence is true for you. Because that is unhealthy masochistic behavior. I mean you all do what you want with your money. But if you do something that contradictory, then don’t be surprised when its pointed out. Its not normal to continue to buy things you don’t like from people you don’t like. This is a video game, not your water or power utilities.

It’s not conflicting. CE was a big deal when it was released, it had a lot of momentum behind it.
But it didn’t work all to good from a technical pov.
Could have elevated funcom into the triple A league.
Before AoS i played it on PS4 pro and had a great time!
And i thought: wow, they got it working! They used some of the money they earned to improve the game. I even got the siptah dlc, i had the others already.

And then AoS hit. All my stuff was gone (thralls, gear etc.)
And that’s the reason for my anger, if it just was a game i didn’t like or care about i would just move on. But i already spent a ton of hours and money on the game, and i won’t get anything back. None of us.
And i joined this forum some weeks ago, because i don’t know what to do anymore. … and im obviously angry

I‘m plying on console. And i‘m not in this form for 6 years, i joined it about a few weeks ago. And that consoles suffer more issues than pc is well known at this point.

And i don’t accept that, if you sell a game on whatever platform it has to work. A good gaming pc will always outperform any console, i know that i‘m not stupid or naive, but at least to work it has.

And i didn’t say it’s the worst game ever, but they‘re wasting so much potential.

Before the AoS it was almost perfect on ps4 pro. And i have a ps5 now, and it’s even worse than ever before?!
This has nothing to do with the hardware, it’s the programming. There is no way around this.

I’m really happy for everyone who gets to enjoy CE as it is intended, i honestly am.

I played Monster Hunter World: Iceborne for a long time, almost 7000 hours.
So i‘m willing to dive deep into agame.
And in CE i had 1000 hours, before AoS came upon us.
If i just wouldn’t like the game, or would have never liked it to begin with, i wouldn’t be so upset.

Maybe you can at least understand me now.
I just don‘t know what to do anymore, and i read a lot of the threads in this forum, i‘m not the only one and it’s not only console that suffers from funcom‘s weird decisions and performance issues.

:man_shrugging:

I can only speak for myself with the following statement, but… if I bought CE on console and played it with the issues it has there, I’d be seeking a refund ASAP. I wouldn’t tolerate a game with the issues that it has on those platforms.

FC does have a responsibility to get CE working on console, even if it means drastic decisions like having non-parity development to PC. Its not sustainable to have quick fire updates for PC and then expect the consoles to just be dragged along.

Now I am biased as I play on PC and I wouldn’t want to see our updates slowed down so they can work out every issue that crops up on console, but that is an option they have available. Square Enix does this for their FFXIV which has cross platform cooperative play.

But I feel like the best option would be to remove the parity, and just let consoles lag behind as much as they need to in order to get them working in an acceptable state.

it’s to late for a refund
But thx man

Edit: and i‘d be fine to wait a little longer if it would work then.

They did that and it failed horribly as console updates were just getting ignored. Hell there was a time that PS was behind one revision and Xbox was behind 2.

No if I was an executive, i would have done the same thing to enforce updates getting done on the consoles and link it all.

It goes back to the Quality and relying to heavily on beta testing to weed out the bugs (which consoles don’t get this feedback at all and hence the larger issues we are seeing in consoles over the PC) . We can point to Quality Control not getting resources necessary but blaming QC for game crashes is like blaming your airbag for your death because the brakes fail.

So did you play CE on console too, or just on pc?
Just out of curiosity

I’ve read the complete Dune saga.
I seriously doubt those rookies will come remotely close to making Dune worth playing.
The movies that were made about it … TRASH.

I am 100% serious when I say this:

If there are no pugs on Dune: Awakening, I will not buy it.

No pugs?

No buy.
