Event Log Player names: yay or nay?

There is an easy way to tell who is blowing up your base when offline if you don’t mind sacrificing your character. Remove all items from character before logging off and store in “safe” place. Put character near main door or near largest group of locked chest, or on top of. When they kill your character blowing into the base, chests, or whatever you will get a notification when you log back on of who killed you. You called also create a second character on a second account and use them as a door stop. You only need to log into the alt enough to keep it from spawning to desert or when it is killed.

Carebear? How does the event log prevent you from stealing, raiding, griefing? And while we are on the subject, how does the event log prevent you from making your own fish traps?

How…? How does it prevent you from attacking anyone? Could it be that you are actually defending being able to grief while the other is offline, with no possibility of reprisal - that your advantage of anonymity is what you are protecting not your ability to raid?

People being offline should not be your advantage to greif. If you want to greif, be prepared to pay the consequences.

But then you are actually part of a clan - the aninimoty clan.

How is the obvious not, well obvious here!!! Its ‘not hard’ because the guy told you he did it!!! It would be impossible had he not.

There are ways to discover the attackers, it requires some “detective work” tho, like the one @jac284 gave, a good one btw.

I know hidden names can be annoying for a lot of ppl, and I understand it should work for loot (theft) only, but not desctruction. I agree that names must be shown if the player destroys, but remain hidden for just looting from bodies, stations, wheels and unlocked containers.

It could even work like this to punish offline raiding, the names stays hidden if the clan/player attacks another clan/player while they’re online, if they’re offline, the attacks will be identified on the log.

No guy killed my camel stole my fish and no it’s not a big thing easy to get it’s the point dont know who not gonna go knocking down everyone’s door to go check chest and stuff everyone just gets destroyed so ppl lose hours of gameplay for what one person sounds fair.

Stealing is stealing fish or a twig someone spent time on these things everyone gets punished for one person or clan to keep myself safe since I dont know who did it no one can be trusted everyone must be wiped.

Yes player killed your camel in the event log dont know who everyone was destroyed if you wanna raid someone then you should definitely be prepared it’s not fair to everyone else but my stuff needs to be secure so everyone had to go. 2 days I can be lvl 60 and raid ready with multiple safe spots

The event log is a mistake, its a debug tool that should never have made it into the live game. Nobody has a crystal ball to magically know who stolen your fish from fish traps.

I wish Funcom would step up and admit they made an error enabling the event log on live servers and remove it altogether.

Protect your camel, your fish, don’t leave them out in the open. It’s a “brutal land”, Conan the Barbarian ? what you expect, hugs and flowers at your door? Stealing is part of Survival, even monkeys do that.

So offline offline raiding with anonymity is something you want to be able to get away with, yes?

You didn’t ask me, so I hope you don’t mind my opinion too. If some player leaves an open tannery on the starter beach, he must expect I will take everything in sight. It defeats any level of immersion to think he has ESP and can know who pilfered his leather from an unmanned station. Moreover, blood oaths and persecutions have been carried out by people wishing revenge on a little petty theft.

Convenient example of an oppressive mechanism: In GTA we all carry personal tracking devices … I mean cell phones – so we’re never off the HUD unless we’re hiding. With a Tattling log, there’s no way to hide something no real Hyborian-Age person would be able to track.

I have always supported the idea of three types of event log at once
If any clan member is online, then all events are anonymous.

If all clan members are offline, theft/looting is anonymous, but any destruction and thrall kills get named in log.
**Offline status starts 1 hour after last clan log in. We know this table exists in db, because it is tied to the new thrall decay system. use it for the event log.

I think that satisfies both camps.

I think this would lead more people to online raid, and make it hard on the offline raiders to act innocent.

**i still wish that the no owner thing stayed on bases. I enjoy investigating whose base is whose. Has opened a stream of communication between non warring (not firendly) clans before we hit it to insure we are at the right target.
The “snitch” or “informant” is a vital communication tool in Conan lore. Someone can benefit by feeding base locations to warring clans. Thralls, FoP…that needs to be implemented permanently imo.

Looks like the majority of people that care want the names back. How soon might we see this implemented?

There is no offline raiding, official servers have raid time now, you can only raid on those times.

Game was dying because everybody got sick of alpha clan revenge trips due to abuse of event log debug.

Yeah that’s the mentality that’s completely alienating me. Why the heck would people want a chaperone when playing videogames? You are there to be free only limited by the games limits. Then people think that’s not fair because you could do a smart raid on a lazy alpha clan.

Well you have?! Just check your event log frequently and you see in realtime what’s going on. I think that’s why we also need a time delay on the log. People should not know another players action in realtime.

The whole event log takes you out of the game cause that’s what it is: a debugging tool.
Btw: just increase the radius of you want to know what’s going on while you are on the other side of the map.

Always show the names!! Especially for pvp

If you’re offline during raid hours, that’s your own fault. 6 hour window. That’s it. If you can’t be on during those consistent hours, then that sucks for you. I work 4 out of 7 days during raid hours, yet I’m not b****ing about being unable to see names. Literally, showing names is only so you can get revenge. That’s it. You’re all looking at it through a tiny hole rather than through a broad spectrum. You see ONE aspect you dislike and it’s supposedly a terrible idea, even though it has way more pros than cons.

Does trolling and cowardly raiding exist? Yes it does. It’s not a perfect change and it will have downsides, but it has more upsides.
