Sorry, I’m not in that discord myself and the image there was the only thing I got my hands on. Should have clarified that.
Guess someone from Funcom decided it’s been a minute since they’ve dealt with a proper torch and pitfork posse.
Ah yes, disabling it to deal with cheaters… when the game peaks around 6k players… and most of those are on private servers. Sigh. Oh well, off to refund all that DLC.
While this will impact me, I do not have an issue with them removing the family share as there are many games that do not allow it.
What I have an issue with is that family share has been allowed for some time and then they abruptly remove it without any warning whatsoever making the game immediately unplayable for some.
To add to the frustration, had they simply given a heads-up, many of us could have prepared with no game interruption and would have purchased the game while it was on sale this past weekend. To have the game on sale, not say a word about discontinuing a service that has been allowed and doing it the day after the sale on the game ends, just very very tacky.
I do see a reason. I think people may be exploiting the vacation break and going after their server-mates, using Family as a cloak. I would think if it’s been toggled off, it can be toggled back on. So let’s all hold tight with the pitchforks. Most of us ain’t had our tetanus shots in a while. I have, that’s why I’m appealing for cooler heads until folks are back on the clock.
That’s… kind of thin, to be honest. I’m waiting to see what their ‘statement’ is going to be but the fact it was a willful decision on their part very strongly suggests it isn’t being turned back on. They also apparently blocked some new regions from Officials today so I’m guessing we’ll get the cheating excuse.
Funcom came very low. You spit in the face of players who have more than 4-5K hours. We have been with you since the release and some since the alpha version of the game. Many have made their own content in this game and remained your loyal players thanks to the family sharing feature. Thanks for these years of great game play, but the servers emptied 2-4 times after a sudden shutdown. Some game servers will simply cease to exist. I and hundreds of my friends on different servers LEAVE YOUR WONDERFUL PROJECT because OF YOUR lack of foresight. sayonara funcom
Well PvP players on Offical servers are not their entire player base. A great many people use it for RP alts, for admin purposes, for NPC purposes on servers that create interactive quests. If they didn’t want family sharing to be a thing they should not have allowed it in the first place, to take it away at this point is going to make them hemorrhage players. - It’s not the hardcore pvp guys buying their fluff DLC anyway it’s the server mods/admins, the builders, the rpers, the casual but dedicated players. They’re punishing the wrong group here with this ‘choice’ if it was one. I just hope someone gets off their butt and makes a statement ASAP - this isn’t the first time oddness and fail has happened due to the mandated Norwegian vacation period.
Funcom…you need to plan better. Seriously.
Also, you need to rethink this decision.
If it was a choice, doing it immediately after the Steam sale to make certain your game was full price before you pulled this feature - seriously a – insert expletive --move. The fact that it happened while you were all conveniently out of the office on holiday and without an announcement makes it that much worse. I really hope this was a mistake. If it was not, You’re going to lose more folks who are upset than you will get to buy a second copy of your game.
And another thing… We understand you’re a business, and not a charity, but if it was just to sell more copies of your game… listen.
I will give you all my money for new content, new features and awesome quests I have purchased EVERY DLC. (and I am not alone) Don’t try to swindle me by taking away a feature I’ve had since launch under the pretense of “fixing a cheat” to get me to buy another copy of the game.
I really really hope this was an accident Funcom, and that you do the right thing here.
RE: Official Statement
I’m sorry Funcom, but it seems like you’re punishing everyone to make certain a very small minority gets duely punished, when even with out family sharing these individuals can just get a new IP, change accts, etc and come back if they really want to be trolls. Why does everyone have to suffer for their crime?
I beg you to reconsider this action.
WELL SAID. Hit the nail on the head.
At this point in time, there has not been any official word as to what is going on. The people that can answer this are presently out of the office for a few more hours and are aware of it. Until then, anything you see or read is purely speculation.
Game mode: PC
Type of issue: Misc
Family share no longer accessible. Steam prompting family account to purchase game.
Please provide a step-by-step process of how the bug can be reproduced. The more details you provide us with the easier it will be for us to find and fix the bug:
- Account shared with Family
- Log In to Family Account
- Attempt to access Conan Exiles - Game no longer listed in Primary Account Library
- Game now listed in Family account library with prompt to purchase
…now this bug report was attached to another thread. And I saw that this was done on purpose. I am speechless, really speechless. Please, fix that …for the sake of all gods you guys created!
This explanation below, and the decission therein, is in the first place an “action against players” who supported the game from the start. Those are the ones who might have used family-sharing the most, the real conan-“fans”. I am for my part are done with funcom, and wonder why I bought every single DLC from you, though I was aware it is cosmetics, with having support for your company in mind, since actually conan is a great game. But never ever will I buy anything from funcom, again. Not that I am not aware that I can live with my toon destroyed, and half of my clanmates gone, too. But, maybe you can not imagine that, some players relate to the little “worlds” and the RP they did build up in conan. And things happen, yes. But why you do not just roll the family-share-ban back, until you have the solution you say you strive for, is beyond me, no offense.
Okay, disable family sharing, but please consider the idea of also turning off online player viewing on the server or at least the steam ID
So, not everyone uses Family Sharing to cheat the system, as FunCom has just learned.
This is how I use it.
I’m a server admin on a small private RP-PVP server that is set up for a small group of friends solely
We are all old schoold Pen&Paper RPers that enjoy non-linear adventures.
On our server an admin also acts like a Gamemaster. For that purpose I have purchased 4 CE accounts which give me 20 character slots, which are all in use.
Archenemies, villains, Kings and Queens, a tavern owner, priests, master craftsmen, shamans, chieftains, pirates, monsters. All are GM-controlled characters, that the players can/will encounter throughout the course of, now, several massive server plots.
With Family Sharing disabled, the server theme and plotlines are pretty much torpedoed, until a fix is in the works.
For as long as it takes you at FC to work out a fix, the server is non-playable as we log in to RP, not to build and gather ressources (players are provided with all materials and gear). Special gear is acquired as part of storylines; as part of the ongoing RP that has at this point lasted about 1½ year.
I understand the reasons why FC disabled Family Sharing, but to do so without warning, so precautions could be made to see that the RP could continue, or without providing an alternative (x number of character slots linked to one account like in AoC) is laudable to say the least (as you have already mentioned).
So, unless a fix is provided within this week, I ask, beg really, that Family Sharing is re-enabled until such time you can communicate the alternative properly and provide a fix that is QAed.
I’d provide screenshots of all the wonderous characters that 4 accounts have enabled me to create through 2000+ hours of roleplay in CE, but it would blur the message and… guess what; they are no longer available to me.
I feel your loss. Myself, I only use it for testing purposes, to spot holes in my land claim, and similar frivolous activities, so I can live with being without the option until whatever fix it is they want to develop rolls around.
I could say much more about this, but this thread isn’t my soapbox, so: my commiserations.
Going on a little bit of a rant here…
Funcom… your community goes far beyond official servers or PvP… I’m a long time veteran of AoC And of the Conan RP Community…
It was this lack of thought and consideration for a wider set of players other than a narrow selection that led to the demise of RP and support for AoC… And alas now it seems the same thought process is endangering it here…
For sure, stopping cheating is important. But you cannot possibly hope to address that in it’s entirety by automated tools and half-assed knee jerk fixes.
Surely the best option would have been to allow family sharing in steam, but be allowed/disallowed via the server settings…
On private servers it should be the admins that decide who is banned and for what… They pay the money and spend the hours making sure their servers are as they wanted… Empower them to make the decisions, not some inappropriate blanket rule that will cause harm and frustration
Seriously… act fast or it will hit private servers, and esp RP communities HARD!
They only need to implement X character slots per steam ID and the problems RP players and server admins are facing now should be fixed.
A ban is based on Steam ID. So if a server will ban a steam user, so will all his characters be banned as well.
Exceptional work Funcom, you just lost 3 players. Good move, my family is so … that they have removed CE fromtheir accounts, now you just have 1 player left, which is also … and will give a last straw at what final decision you make on family sharing. And that straw will last exactly 24 hours before the building decay limit on the servers they play. Way to go…
PS: Just decided to stop until funcom decides to make a decision, if by that time, my family’s stuff is gone, we’ll be all off. Sad to say, but I’m willing to take it up to a level. With this issue, funcom has definetly surpassed my tolerance level. To fix official server problems, you wrecked the vast majority of rp’ers, which by now I would say are the most people that support your game. Until now I bet… expect the private porpulation server to drop dramatically, I feel for admins who pay for real good hardware and now are cut.
well, alot have been said about the very popular use of family sharing…
Rp is the most important core community of the game, and many, many more use family share to create alternative characters in worlds they love.
i played over 4k hours, mostly on rp-pvp servers. running multiple plotlines, as any rp’er knows, is a pure pleasure. not to mention my main characters are on family shared accounts, and now i’m locked away from them to an undefined amount of time.
from the beautiful builds, the worlds i love, the payed purchases on some servers, but most importantly? from the stories. there are 2 wars, a harem, and an inquisition, all on halt, on multiple servers, due to this.
it hurts, it stings, and im in withdrawal.
and i know, and they will know, as this will surely affect every measurable thing about game-play in conan exiles, that im not alone in this.
Agree with every point raised here. Funcom, please take notice.
The damage to RP servers is going to be severe. Some admins split their time between a secret character and their admin duties. Some admins create secret characters to drive RP on and to create new stories. I am on your server, Yaminah (astrid) and already, one of my clan on a family shared account cannot log in. This was a clumsy solution to what is a genuine issue. Allow server settings to enable shared accounts to use or not. That, is a simple and elegant solution.
Like yourself, I am from the AoC background and I have been on your server since beta. I can say this. Funcom have disappointed with this implementation. I feel very bad for the people who will lose everything due to server decay.
As a roleplayer myself, some of the emotional appeals against turning off family share are what make me largely avoid what labels itself the RP community. If, like PUBG, family share is damaging the game, then it has to go. If it is, post sale, been widespread damaging, to the game when Funcom are on their summer break, that is unfortunate. If the damage being done outweighed the need to give notice, that to is very unfortunate.
Dear roleplayerss, sorry your sandboxes got shaken, and a few your pails and shovels broke. But appeals based on your emotions, negative comments toward Funcom and staff, and delusional expectations of support and development focus given what you all actually bring to the player base as a demographic will not help. If anything it puts RPers, as they have been with devs, firmly in the box of ‘These people are never happy and take everything as an attack’, where you for sure are more a liability than strength to the game’s community.
As a long time mmorpg player, suck it up, like has been done on other games since mmorpg started. If you need more structured tools for multicharacter support and customization, since that is the core element of what tou want from the game, why are you on Conan Exiles and demanding this as if you were specifically promised it? Neverwinter Nights Enhanced exist you know.
That all said, would advise being more constructive to getting not what you want now, but at least some sort of tools by looking at the amazing work the CE modding community has done.
NO. just no.
you do not take an option that has been there from the start, without notice, to subdue offenders.
you are correct on a few points, shouting “this is the reason you should treat us better”
is redundant, even if true.
its not about getting another copy of the game, its about having the account and thus story we invested in huge amounts of time, creative effort, and heart, ripped away, without warning.
