But was he though ? I mean don’t take this the wrong way , but several community managers were layed off during the years, the ones that really cared about us at least left a farewell message on the forum for us to know they are leaving so we can know that we’ll not see them around no more… I believe Andy could have done the same if he really wanted to. I won’t say for sure he didn’t care about us, as a person can be so affected by these kind of announcement that they don’t think all things through. But after a week , he could still have had a thought for us and come back ( even with a new account) to let us know. Instead it’s dead silence and we have to learn it because someone made a post on the dune discord …. So for me I guess it’s sorry , not sorry !

Not if he was walked out. I’ve been walked out of each job I’ve been laid off from. No time for farewells, gathering my stuff or last minute tying up of loose ends.
This is true. Everyone reacts to things differently. Andy should not be judged by how he reacted without knowing why he reacted that way.
That being said, when I worked for Fandom, I was in perhaps 30 wikis’ Discord servers, and when I was laid off, I told everyone what happened and stayed in those servers for about a week afterwards before I started leaving - staying even longer in the servers where I had gotten to know some people. Andy departed from every Discord server he was in without a word.
Sad to hear this. He might be angry, and I’d understand that. The balance between frustration and payment isn’t great in community management, as far as I understand. Being laid off on top of that… well, who’d blame him for kicking a few things on his way out.
Wish you all the best, Andy, in case you read this.
Yes, he definitely was. I cannot suppress this feeling on you buddy, i am sorry you don’t feel the same.
The circumstances are different, we’re on the sunset. Soon enough all of us will have to choose what kind of goodbye we will say to each other. Whatever you choose @Kanza1 won’t change what you have done all these years in here.
It’s not something to “challenge”, this is already a confirmed fact.
No, since he didn’t leave a message anywhere - he also didn’t “leave”, he was laid off as part of Funcoms latest “restructuring”.
Well, some of them mentioned it pretty directly, however it’s probably because public forums aren’t the best place to discuss a person suddenly becoming unemployed, especially if they’re no longer here to address any gossip - which is for example why I haven’t posted about this, until somebody else mentioned it, even though I was aware before then.
As I said earlier, Iggy, who works for Funcom as a CM, stated in the Dune discord that Andy was impacted by the recent restructuring. Sadly, that’s pretty definitive.
It’s a valid issue to question some information delivered via third party. But I think we can pretty safely assume that the information is correct.
For those unfamiliar with corporate dissembling and bs-speak, “impacted” in the context of “restructuring” means laid-off.
“Laid-off” means fired but the company won’t expend effort to try to keep you unemployed after they give you the boot.
In some jurisdictions there are more protections or even the implications that a person can/must eventually be re-hired if they are Laid-off. Also it may impact whether someone qualifies for whatever social safety net is in place (fired = no unemployment, laid off = yes maybe possibly unemployment).
Man I took a break from this place (as I do) and I come back and find out Andy is gone? FFS! I LIKED him!
But look folks, Conan is down to a skeleton crew. We know that. We know the focus is now Dune. We know Funcom ALWAYS runs its games into the ground. More importantly, we know Tencent is an evil and soulless corporation that feeds on the corpses of games until there’s no life left to suck from them and then they move on to a new victim. Conan was doomed the minute the CCP got their hooks into it.
That said, since I play exclusively on private modded servers, I’ll play until they make it impossible to do so. We know Tencent hates modding. So I think eventually they will kill even that. It sucks but that’s the world we live in. Just stop buying Funcom games and any games Tencent has a stake in. Yeah, that’s a lot of games. Personally, my post Conan life is going to consist of reading as many books as I used to.
Like other said when ‘we are restructuring..’ is the soft way to say ‘we dont need you anymore, you are fired’. And if Andy has been fired I perfectly understand he wont come in here to say farewell. If was me after being fired I’d have more important things to worry about.
Normally when you are fired your userid and access credentials are revoked, and if was the case for Andy I doubt seriously he was thinking about creating a new account just to come in here to say farewell. If was me I wouldnt do it , and the last thing I’d do is still participating on things that belongs to the company which just throwed me away like a used tissue.
Wish you all the best Andy.
The game that is now down to steam numbers that are only 50% higher than CE numbers? Dune’s first DLC was a huge let down from what I could tell and that was what killed them from 20k to 13k player counts. I’m really starting to get concerned it won’t be available for console if this keeps up. I also think Funcom may pivot back and add more support to the game that keeps on giving since Dune revenue seems to be….problematic
its not fair compair a game their had 8-9 years of devellopment to a game their had around 6 months deveollopment, beside that console dont have the game yet to dune
they can problerly earn more money on console than they can on PC when it comes to survivel games.
the first DLC was forced on funcom frome steams side of this.
dune has a good fundament, im waiting for the revamp they have planed for with the endgame that can allso impact alot of good posivetive but it can allso go the other way around
Yeah I’m aware. But that’s also probably part of WHY it’s got their focus over Conan. They can’t afford to let their new baby go down in flames. As someone who loved the Dune books growing up I was really sad to see them get their hands on it and even sadder when I saw what they did to the lore. I know, everyone says it was the Dune estate that forced that but it absolutely killed ANY desire I may have had to play it. I don’t blame the folks who own the rights to Dune, they would have been very foolish to let Funcom have their way with the IP. Look what they’ve done with Conan after all. LOL But for me… it’s not Dune. It’s just a generic Sci Fi game with a light dusting of Dune over it. So… thankfully I wasn’t interested and now don’t feel as if I’ve missed anything.
From what friends tell me and what I see in the way of non paid reviews Dune is actually a good, enjoyable game right up until the end game. No comment on the lore because I know very little about Dune.
That said it’s apparently also fairly short and those friends are already losing interest.
I’m wondering if they’re going to put everything in the Dune basket via fixes, alterations and new content or veer off to a new project. Doing both doesn’t seem feasible given the layoffs and apparent resource crunch though it may depend on how much funding Tencent is willing/able to provide.
I have to admit I’m also curious as to what a new project would be. Something off the beaten path, which has been the attraction to Funcom for me, or some mock-up of mainstream pablum. I suppose there’s no way to know how much influence Tencent will have over that decision.
It could be worse. Look at what has been done with Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2. ![]()
Talk about a CLUSTERFVCK of a game launch and a BUTCHERING of the established lore / expectations.
sorry becuse i am wordblind and sorry i cannot spell correct
and if you dont like how i spell PLS dont comments on it, becuse this is a persenol thing.
No worries. I’m fluent in Typonese.
Hard to believe no one has mentioned the server transfers and mergers announced for Dune. Not unusual in itself but it certainly seems it got to that point very fast.
Could be that’s just modern gaming. Locust swarms r us.
