I am sorry Funcom, but this is a HORRIBLE idea! Half the survivability in this game is being able to hide a base. Sure, someone can run around with a foundation to try to find them, but that is them wasting their time. Let them. Why don’t you just put a big X on the map whenever someone places a base; lets just stop beating around the bush.
Maybe some people will like this, maybe they won’t. At the least, this should be something that can be turned off SERVER side, NOT client side. And all officials should NOT have it enabled.
One of the TOP SERVERS IN THE WORLD, Wars of Elysium, has a rule set that models medieval feudalism. It is HIGHLY entertaining and makes Conan extremely fun to play. IF YOU DON’T MAKE THIS A SERVER-SIDE SETTING - IT WILL BREAK THE #2 CONAN SERVER IN THE WORLD!!
Personally, I don’t think anything needs to change. Players can already add personal icons or markers to the in-game map. There’s no need for anything to change. Its fine the way it is, IMO. But if you are dead set on implementing it, at LEAST make it a server-side setting so that server administrators can control the feature.
Ragnar - Rising Storm Lieutenant, Wars of Elysium Season III.
This new “Feature” is going to be really terrible, with a 100% chance of rain…seriously…what? It potentially can cause so many problems and display issues. it should be a server side setting for custom online pvp servers
I don’t like the idea of announcements. As others said, what’s wrong with expecting players to have a further look around if they want to locate another one’s base? It doesn’t add anything, except a convenient popup, but does hinder people that rely on playing with a hidden approach.
Saying the existance of undermesh bases justifies this, is just short-sighted as well. Just work on fixing undermesh bases, as a completely different task of its own, instead of introducing a new bandaid that just cripples the playstyle of others.
I personally think it’s a neat change. But then I play PvE and am not trying to hide my base. It’s unfortunate that it’s another blow to a play style that already got sucker punched (the sneak thief) though. Maybe should be off by default on PvP servers?
This should never be implemented. Hidden bases will be too easy to find. With all this said, i also still think that event log and player list should be removed aswell. Anything that ruins a solo player or a small clans chances is very bad. It seems that all of these changes are just favoring big clans.
Flagging everything, whether it is an Event Log or a Land Claim is driving players away from activities. You now have a surveillance state on servers. It is really creepy.
I don’t log-on to certain servers anymore because it just feels creepy that someone is reviewing your every action. I was wondering why people stop logging into certain private servers. Often it is because the event logs are re-enabled. Creepy is insufficient to explain the sensation.
Better to flag servers that have turned off event logs for both client and admin. Watch those servers flourish.
Rectal examining player activity is creepy beyond compare.
I cam safely say that my activity in the game greatly decreased since the new event log took place, playing since EA day 1, now im certain my Tree house will be find, having a small clan and being solo most of the time, my days on the game is getting to an end.
On the other hand, good job on the new animations FC, they look beautiful, keep the polishing comming.
Land Claim Markers, Event Log and Player List - this is for PvE. On PvP servers all of this should be turned off. Most people play in small clans or solo/duo, all of the above puts them in a disadvantage. It’s an offset balance on PvP servers, and no fun what-so-ever.
(And I’m speaking from a big clans perspective where no one wants to even touch an open chest i put in the open, because they know that I will know instantly.)
It should be enabled only for testlive to help in testing, not online, and even less on PvP.
The game dosent have a minimap/compass (wich is great) but has and event log that tells you who stole fish from your fish traps and now a GPS annoucer you are entering land of LordBritish.
