Massive FPS drops

Hey @hitdaman

There is unfortunately no other update than our team working on it and aiming to release it as soon as possible. One of the two identified issues has been fixed but the other one was a little more complex and it’s taking a little longer to fully fix.
We apologize for the inconvenience.

All good. The important is communication.

I have seen the contents of this thread since 8th October to now, and would like to just add my own observations:
I had not played CE for a while and came back to it after the recent upgrade. I am playing SP with 4 mods, none of which affect the actual landscape.
If I move anywhere not too far from my base, you either come to a point where there is no terrain anymore, or the mountains, etc are just blobs. If you cross from a point where there is terrain to the void, as it were, you get a lovely animation of falling, you land initially in water, take no damage and suddenly spawn in the desert, again having suffered no damage.
The denizens in the area have vanished, for example the giant crocodile not too far from the main east west river is no more, and his treasure chest has also disappeared.
Them we also have the situation that suddenly the frame rate is appalling and the screen is like stop motion photography.
I have 600 hours under my belt and this is a terrible state of affairs.
Before you say it is down to my machine, I am happily running Assassins Creed Odyssee which is graphically at least as challenging if not more, and that works perfectly.
I see the remarks from Ignasis that Funcom are working on this. It would be nice to think that this will be sorted out; something fundamental has gone wrong, which is a pity.

Just to mention. I do not seems to have any problem with sudden FPS drop. On offical server

My spec:
Intel Core i7-8700K
16GB ram
Windows 10 Pro latest version
Installed on a SSD drive.
Geforce GTX 1070 Ti 8GB with latest nvidia driver

FullHD, vsync and capped on max 60 fps.

The problem should be the same that happened to bethesda games, a mod is baked with data that it should not be touching (like you said, you dont use mods that change the landscape). We call those dirty edits, on the bethesda toolkit just looking at some records would mark then as edited by the mod, thus saving said record as part of the mod even if the modder didnt mean to include any edits to it.

What happens then is that the mod has this dirty edit that is a snapshot of say a region of the map at the time the mod was made and as mods load after all game files it will aways overwrite the default game files even if they are more recently updated.

Since this update changed the way the game loads the map chunks to acoomodate the mounts faster movement, it’s easy to guess that this is what is hapening: the mod has baked into it dirty edits to the map loading chunks, but the game dosent load the map in the same size it did before, hence the map loads with broken terrain because it dosent find the data it expects to find.

So short of updating the mods, there is no way funcom patch will fix games using those mods.
Probably someone should study epic toolkit and find a way to remove dirty edits in the future or those will become the same nightmare they were in bethesda games.

Would this be an issue with mods that do not touch the map in any way? Nor does it account for those who have reported missing map chunks in unmodded games.

So, we’re at the end of the week now, is there any sort of ETA on this hotfix that was planned for the start of the week?

So guys, anyone came with at least a workaround?

My experience:
independent on mods/vanilla or MP/SP
independent on settings
2 months old and newest nvidia drivers (updated after the stuttering began)
cache of course verified through steam

PC SPECS:
i7-8700, GTX 1060 6 GB,
16 GB RAM, WIN 10, installed on SSD

11 days since game was broken. Still can’t play it…

I’m a little late to the conversation. Playing SP on a Ryzen 5 2400
16 Gig Ram
GTX 1060 6 Gig
Found the horrible stutter on heavily modded game. For comparison I tried Test Live Client and found same thing. (it was modded as well)
So I took everything off Live Client and game ran fine. Started adding mods and still running fine. Today I went back to the regular modded game but removed Exiled Lands Improved. Game is running great! Now to reintroduce Exiled lands on both and see what happens.

Any update on this fix yet? It has killed my server.

Hey @Sahbrena,

We’ll release this update this week. It´s currently undergoing some testing on Testlive at this moment.
You can check out the patchnotes here:

You’re certain that it’ll be this week, right? We were all looking forward to it last week, but it didn’t happen and we heard nothing about it until the weekend.

Confirmed to be this week on PC.

Thanks

Hello everyone.

Does the update fixed the problem for you ? Because for me it didn’t at all.
I still have those massive random FPS drop from 60 to 3 or 4 fps, making the game unplayable.
If I stay still, I can watch the FPS meter go from 60, to 40, 30, 15, 10, 8, 7, 5, 3… Then oscillate between 3 and 10. Then jump back to 60, and gradually go back down.
Only way to get rid of this for a few minutes is to relog.

I have the issue regardless the mods used, and no change if the graphic settings are in ultra, or in “low end laptop” setting.

This has been going on for three weeks and it is very frustrating…

Hey @Kzertus

Welcome to our community and apologies for the frustration.
Could you try re-validating your game files on Steam and trying on a vanilla server/single player to see if these issues persist?
Otherwise, could you list your system specs and share a video of this issue in action so we can get a better look at it?
