Yet some of them have more players online then Conan does…
Don’t get me wrong. I love Conan and its survival custom base building rpg idea. I’m trying to increase its popularity,
You can’t really compare online numbers between survival games and MMO’s
Just as you shouldn’t try to make MMO type mechanics in a game like Conan.
Conan has massive amounts of information moving between the server and the client,
and is heavy on the server side. it’s why ping jumps up just by connecting.
Games like WoWarcraft are heavy on the client side with minimal data transfer, low ping = more connections per server.
The only reason I brought up MMO’s in the first place is because everything you are asking for is a staple in a MMO. But really not beneficial in a survival game where everything is a opportunity for griefing other people.
Granted a player store would help RP, But I think mods are the answer here, not core game mechanics.
RP communities usually police themselves, PVP communities would be a nightmare.
Thrall Merchants would become an exploit unless a lot of work was done to prevent it.
People would rob the merchant unless as you said more coding was done to the AI
More data transfer = lower connection numbers
I played in a MMO with in game player stores, people go get mats or gear from one area and move it to the newb zone and mark it up 100x because the new people don’t know any better, and they do it not to build a player economy but to fleace new players just to become wealthy in game. The same things happens in auction houses, in MMO’s.
I really like Conan also, that why I don’t want it to become just another wow clone where you need to eat and drink once in awhile.
I’m all for mounts if done right once the technical issue is worked out of course. There are several really good ones already in AoC they could port over easily I would imagine.
Regarding flying mounts, I’m not really for them frankly speaking as such things give me the sense of superhero shenanigans. Nonetheless, if they are included at some point, I hope they are stupidly hard to get and expensive to maintain.
Wasn’t Joel himself who stated … “We won’t make fly mounts because it makes the world feel smaller…” I hope they keep the word.
It works for me.
To do mounts right is easy. Don’t add them at all.
There will be no flying mounts because they don’t fit the setting. Joel said so repeatedly. He even said in the latest stream there will be no “gliders” like in Zelda. So we don’t need to discuss that point. I think people are making too much of a big deal out of mounts. The traversal system in Exiles with climbing, teleporting will be much more practical than mounts.
A good example of that is actually Zelda, where you get a horse - which is super awesome fun, beautifully animated and I love it - but very, very soon after you realize you have shrine teleports, climbing and gliding and you stumble off in some direction and leave your horse. I rarely use my horse now and rather climb, glide, teleport my way through the world.
bad idea, flying mount, for this game…
tamable merchant thrall, would be a good idea, and terrestrial mount too
I support the mount idea so long as obtaining a mount is a process that involves taming, training and maintaining it, and not simply purchasing it from a vendor.
As far as flying mounts are concerned, I don’t like that idea because exploration is a big part of the game mechanics. There is also world PvP. Conan is not WoW, it doesn’t need flying mounts.
Well, I would modify that suggest about mounts just a bit. In fact, I’d put them in two categories:
Basic mounts (starter type mounts): sold at merchants/vendors. These would have standard stats and do the job of basically getting a person from point A to point B. Nothing fancy about them.
Advanced mounts (ones that you develop yourself, customize stats, and so forth): have to be captured, tamed, trained, and maintained.
And I agree, no flying mounts, please. The climbing mechanic is great on its own for reaching high places.
The exiled lands seem pretty short on equids and all the other species we have been exposed to seem too aggressive to tame, there is a reason we don’t ride gazelle or African elephants in real life. Seems to me, problem solved.
As far as merchant thralls, what’s to stop them from just running off with your stuff? Maybe some poor smelter sticks around because you could return home at any time and hunt them down but a merchant would be so long removed from your presence that fear wouldn’t keep them returning to you.
If they implement mounts, they can always add wild horses to the game to be tamed for mounts. I’m pretty sure crocodiles will not be an option.
You should say that to Hannibal Barca.
Joel is the Creative Director, but that doesn’t mean he controls everything that is created in the game They hadn’t previously planned on including Elevators in the game at all — and yet they were created, and are one of the most important parts of many bases.
I’d love to see slow, lumbering, siege elephants. Imagine taming an elephant, equipping it with armor and a harness, to ride it into a raid. Very vulnerable against arrows, so you would need allies beside you, protecting you from wandering archers. Eventually you arrive at the enemy base, and stomp it underfoot. Siege mounts could be a hard-to-use, yet efficient way to raid bases. Instead of spending explosives and orbs, it would require taming, feeding, and protecting a siege beast.
Not to mention the elephants in Conan Exiles are pretty clearly not African elephants anyway, having an extra set of tusks and all…
Personally, I’m pretty ambivalent towards mounts. A horse or a camel would be neat, but as others have said a lot of the map’s terrain isn’t exactly mount-friendly.
If it were up to me I’d rather be able to take one of those baby animals home and raise it into a pet. Not necessarily to ride it, just so I can go full Frazetta and run around a primordial landscape with a big cat or a hyena or whatever at my side.
A rhino to tank with.
i would love to have pets as well, but i am afraid this would be super hard to make it work correctly. Such AI would take too much work to make and it would be most likely extra bugy… Following is issues, keeping it alive in world full of savage monsters would be super big issue, making it attack what you want and stop it attack what you want could be like in ark… but then we would play Conan Ark, not exiles… Best option would be to make a pet thrall to help you guard your base from the Purge.
I would love to run around the world with my animal (i played WoW and GW2 for many years and always as a hunter or ranger with pet, because that is what i LOVE!) but i am afraid we wont see this any time soon and if - it will be thrall like concept
To be fair, we have no idea what type of elephants Hannibal rode but I understand that I was posting in the wrong neighborhood.
Can you elaborate on the contractual obligation? Who was it with? I haven’t heard about this until now.
