I never said you guys cannot stop complaining. I’m just saying that it’s wrong to try to control what other people say, especially when it’s on a computer screen.
I may not agree with those racist bigots, but I’ll defend their right to say it.

Some of us understand that even though humans may be intelligent, we’re still animals in nature, and sometimes our nature is not so good. The best proof of it is in human history. No matter how many people have been good, there’s been just as much bad. It’s just who we are as a species.
When I was younger, I dealt with a lot of hatred because of my skin color, and also because of the things I enjoyed. Try being a gamer in the late 80’s to early 90’s. That’s when playing games wasn’t cool like it is today, and people harassed you for it. It may have just been the town I grew up in, but gamers were looked down upon.
After so much time you realize that people will hate no matter what, so you have to ask yourself…do you want to be angry all of the time because you can’t stand this, or would you like to just enjoy your own life and be happy??
As one gets older, one realizes how short life can actually be. Many of us get tired of the anger, tired of the hate, and just want to be happy. There are plenty of things in the world to be angry at that are worth being angry at, and other things people get angry at because they have no actual purpose in their own lives, so they wish to be all self-righteous so they feel like they have a purpose. If I see someone actually harming someone because of their skin color, or someone wanting to attack me because of mine, then yes, I will do something about it. In fact, there has been times I have. Typed words over the internet are easily ignored, as long as someone has control over their own emotions.
It’s really your choice, Shadoza. You can “stand your ground” all you want against all of these people if it makes you feel good about yourself, if it makes you feel less racist because you stood your ground against an internet troll. Many of the people who say grow a thick skin are people who’ve dealt with a lot of stupid stuff in their lives, and I’m certain many times it’s actually gotten to them as they grew up, I know it did me. After so long, though, one decides they don’t want to allow that stuff to get to them anymore. One chooses happiness. If I let the things people said to me affect me, then I would never be happy. I don’t know about you, but I like being happy.
No amount of “standing your ground” will change them, and once you understand that then the choice will be yours: Anger, or happiness??
They are more likely to shut down the servers.
You say they could simply flip a switch and make it work. Ok. Why isn’t the switch flipped if its so easy? Because Funcom is giggling their rears off when they see these posts? That they did this on purpose to make everyone squirm? Seriously, if it was as easy as you claim, they would.
The MMORPGs you listed having functions built into them had them built into them from the start. CE didn’t. CE was never intended to be moderated like you all want it to be. For example, the server logs cut out after 500 entries. Meaning if I say a bad word, and 500 entries of errors, chat, and other server messages go by. That bad word disappears. It only poofs out a text log when something crashes.
Next up is an interface for GMs. In case you noticed, the way PC players login is through Steam. That means GMs need a Steam account which starts involving Valve into the process. To put it shortly, they’re going to have to redo an entire new login system.
The whole process I’m going to say right now would take longer than the lifespan of the official servers. This isn’t a pay to play game. This isn’t a free to play game with microtransactions. Those servers are not bringing people in. I’m sorry, they’re not. They are just there for someone to go “Oh, this is an official server.” If that person is turned off by the experience. Well… they have already spent their $40, its nothing for Funcom to lose at this point.
All the bad press will do is cause them to close the servers earlier. Cause at the end of the day, they are temporary. And I agree with that. We shouldn’t have official servers. It just brings Funcom unneeded grief.
What you all should be doing is blowing up Gportal’s forums for allowing Funcom to let this go rampant. I’ve been a Gportal customer myself. It is against their TOS.
Not at all. By all means contact every news outlet you can, post threads on Gportal, and make every ruckus you can.
I actually want to see the servers shut down. Funcom already made their decision to not moderate them, suggesting for you all to play on Private or Single player to avoid such nastiness. And they have doubled down on that stance.
So the decision left to be made is yours. Do YOU continue to play on Official and tolerate racism, homophobia, and cheats and exploits? Or do you find greener pastures?
I made my choice months ago and avoided official altogether. As I don’t choose to associate with those things. I don’t see why you all do. Emptying the servers would send a message too. But instead you all support those racist and homophobic players by being an audience for them. That’s akin to buying drinks at a bar that says ‘whites only’.
I don’t support that, I don’t know why you all do.
I have never stepped foot on an official server. I knew what kind of a cesspool they would turn out to be from past PvP mmo’s that I’ve played. PvP brings out the worst in a lot of people.
As far as I’ve seen, the ‘Admin Abuse’ argument is a wives tale. I have seen admins on private servers that try to micromanage things that others do and get uptight, but they do it to put everyone on equal footing and not let one group dominate. There is very little evidence that anyone (in these forums) has provided that admin abuse is common (not nonexistent).
As @Taemien has said, official servers are a burden to Funcom, they spend money with no return on investment to provide them for us. Jens mentions this for part of the reasoning of the paid DLC in the most recent Livestream.
If you really don’t want to be exposed to abusive/racist/sexist language, then go to a private server with active Administrators. There are plenty to choose from, each with a different community.
We do moderate our own behaviors on private servers. Those who spout hate speech are immediately banned. As for added cost, it is negligible. A few people foot the bill for 200-300 others. And assuming a quarter is donated from each per month is plenty to ensure a behaved player base.
Think about it this way. If the Official servers never existed, we wouldn’t be having this topic. Players would simply login to private servers and never experience the level of hostility they do on the unmoderated official ones.
Also you can run a private server for FREE. In steam you can download the dedicated server hardware and run a small server straight from your PC at home. I’ve done this myself for a few friends.
And lets do some simple math. There is 387 PC official servers. Capacity is 40 each. IF those servers are at max capacity, that would constitute under a third of the playerbase of Conan Exiles by steam stats. We all know some servers are full, some are empty, most inbetween.
This means less than a quarter of players play official. The others play single player or on private servers. Official server players are a minority. A minority that perhaps should be pushed out of official to avoid the bad press.
There’s decent players on official. Maybe one out of ten. And they don’t need the hassle of being around the other 90%. Unfortunately they’re not a large enough population to devote resources to. So they ought to pick up and start up on a regulated server. Its the only way they’ll get any peace. Or simply call it a loss and find another game to play. Not every game will appeal to every player.
I agree with you, but i will play devil’s advocate here, as I try to see this from all perspectives:
Some people want to play at vanilla settings with restricted times and x1 xp, crafting and gathering rates. This makes the game slightly more challenging, and the grind longer.
Player capacity at any given time on officials is 40. With rotating schedules (night shifts, day shifts, school, timezone differences) and some not playing every day, it is very possible that 100 people play on each server without it staying at full capacity. That still isn’t all of the player base, but it makes the figure closer to 40% of people playing on officials.
Some people are scared of ‘Admin Abuse’ because they heard about this one server from a friend who heard it from another friend who played in another game, that the admins were running around destroying everyone’s bases and spawning in epic armor (the same armor/weapons that everyone else uses a couple weeks in).
On the flip side:
Offical servers are unmoderated cesspools of people wanting to kill everything that moves (and some things that don’t), and want to destroy other peoples creations that they had pumped a lot of time into. These people harass, hate and have horrible character, but they don’t include everyone. I would hope this closer to 50% on pvp servers as a guess, hoping for the best in people.
Funcom spends money on these complimentary servers that they do not make back from people actually spending time on them. It takes money away from projects and staff to fix bugs and add content.
On private servers people are (for the most part) very well behaved, friendly, and quite helpful. Admins can ban rude crude griefers and those who are just toxic, making for a better experience.
Private servers offer the ability to add mods, which can really enhance gameplay and add features and content. Additionally, server settings can be changed so that buildings are raid-able 24/7, or nights are shorter, or characters bodies are gone when logged out, or crafting times are shorter, or harvesting is multiplied, etc…
There is really very little reason for anyone to play on official servers, but I can somewhat understand them wanting to do so.
Oh I definitely can too. But… the cons far outweigh the pros.
I’ve heard of admin abuse. I’ve even seen an admin get banned before for doing it. But I mean I’d rather take that chance than have just about every other player commit abuse on a daily basis. I mean we’ve seen what? A half a dozen threads, a media post on it, and several heated discussions on Racism in the past 2 weeks.
Its obviously an issue for many. Its not an issue Funcom wants to address personally (and perhaps they cannot physically due to design limitations, that’s up to them).
Personally, and I can only speak for myself, and I will admit to being selfish in this regard. But I think they should take the money they bleed to the Official servers and turn that back into more content the rest of us desire.
I’d rather get the modloader functionality over a few people getting a few moderators on the official servers. Just being honest. I’d rather see more combat systems added to the game than the devs working on a ticket system.
Sorcery is a big one. They need to hire someone for effects on that. That funding set aside for that aspect will be used if they have to hire moderators for servers that bleed money instead of generate. And lets be honest. I think they stand to make quite a bit more off of sales if they could make that promise come true.
But that’s just my take on it. Figured since you were being honest that I would too.
well, I’m being the victim of a vote kick the whole time in rf, this needs to be taken care of I bought the game and I wanna play and nobody leaves.
Funcom seems to have officially tied themselves to g-portal for server hosting, at least as far as consoles are concerned. I have a private server through them because there wasn’t another hosting option (again, for consoles), but the options and pricing are really bad compared to some other hosting companies. I have to think that Funcom got something out of making a deal like that… you don’t just chain yourself to an overpriced company with bad service for no reason. If it were me, the thing I would get out of it is free (or very discounted) official hosting in exchange for funneling all of the paid server customers straight to their door. Maybe they didn’t make that deal, but if they did the official servers aren’t in any danger of disappearing any time soon.
I for one am glad i’m not the only one speaking up against racism, and i wholeheartedly agree with especially this quote:
Conan Exiles is a game based on the Conan IP and thus, should have everything from the Conan IP. And your dodging my other points only further cements the fact that you are just looking to be offended.
And all still in a game where MURDER for survival is the main part of the game…murder OK, words BAD. ![]()
Real life racism = bad
Ingame/In Character racism = good
As far as i’m concerned, you can roleplay a Shemite that hates Cimmerians all you like (or vice versa), but keep real life racism out please!
Then you shud read up in Conan history b4 you talk!

And Cimmerians are white and Shemites are what? Black/brown…and…ta da. Also, again nothing about the fact the game is based on murder to survive…
Try using the report system on Xbox/PlayStation/ STEAM you’ll have better results as far as having the matter taken care of

You do know the difference between the fictional world and the real world, right?.. right?
Not directed at @Shadoza, just to be clear. You guys can sandbox your theories all you want. I have real-life proof. We got raided. The raider busted in and as he did he screeched “wassup, [epithets]!” thereby unleashing a word I really don’t want heard on my channel. Voice should be muted by default, and only turned on deliberately. I’ll tell anybody who plays: mute the voice in Settings. Eff the broken voice system.
My partner was there and called the raider out on it in chat. Raider then repeated it in type form.
Press escape. Click Player List. Click on one of their names, which will bring up their Steam profile. Report them. Click on the next name in the Player List. Repeat.
I don’t know if it’ll work, but it’s one thing you could try.
Calling people “special” or “snowflakes” or telling them to just ignore things that upset them or that they think are unjust are all ways of telling another person to “just put up with how I think you should be treated”.
Just putting up with something isn’t being mature or strong… it’s rolling over and taking it because someone else convinced you to. On the other hand, if it genuinely doesn’t bother you then not speaking up isn’t weak.
Nobody but me gets to decide what bothers me. Only I get to decide what I’m willing to put up with. Telling me to “grow up” or “grow a pair” or calling me “special” or a “snowflake” isn’t going to make me just put up with things that I think are wrong. It’s a bullying tactic that society as a whole uses to enforce submissive behavior and a lot of people participate in it without even realizing what they’re furthering.
