I like your comment alot, I am just worried about this fanbase dying, if its actually agreed by the community that the mere word isn’t harmful then good.
One person out of thousands gets called a horrible word and it’s Funcoms fault? The servers a safe space for racists?
Are you for real? How do you even come to that conclusion?
Well, behaviors such as these have been around since the dawn of human civilization. When should we start accepting that humans can just be jackasses?? Never?? Behaviors such as this are pretty normal for humans, y’know. You can easily see that in human history.
Honestly, people that get offended in video games are either new to games or too insecure to know how to handle subjective comments that may be seen as inflammatory.
You should never take anyone’s words seriously online, regardless of the platform. Many people use the internet for anonymity and as a means of escape from a reality where the things they say can hurt them.
If you can’t handle being called a n***** or an a******, you probably shouldn’t be playing a rated M game to begin with.
When people call me things, I just laugh at them. If you can’t grow a thick skin and handle hearing things you may not agree with, you should take some time away from the game to work on your confidence and lessening your insecurities.

Also, what you believe to be “socially unacceptable” is subjective. Some people don’t care if you use offensive language around them, and some do.
And to add, I could walk into a public place and start screaming racist comments left and right. Nobody is going to come up to me and punch me in the face - that is, not if they don’t want to be charged with assault and battery and pay for my medical bills.
You need to stop being so easily offended by what others say. This is part of the problem with western nations and especially the USA. The people that get their panties in a bunch because of words that flutter out of someone’s lips hinder progress on many fronts.
It’s actions that count, not words. Remember that as you gain more maturity.

As a black guy, from Venezuela, living in Mexico… Let me give you a piece of advice. Ignore the comments, enjoy the game and dont victimize yourself because of some dumb kid traying to sound gansta. Like many people said. Grow a thick skin. This is the internet, the oposite of a safe space. And speaking particulary as a Venezuelan: If someone insult you, you insult him back, If someone push you, break his face, if some one hits you, get a baseball bat and break his legs. That idea of Cracker being the whip cracker is fairly modern. A way to make it seem less slur like or more slur like. It is actually used to basically described a disgusting white person. The decedents of Convicts, or a synonym for Jays (as in Jay walking a term invented by marketing people to convince government bad drivers didn’t kill people it was stupid Jays walking in the street even though that is where people walked) It also may have meant someone who is a loud mouth. In the sense of Crack a Joke you’d Crack a Conversation.
All meanings of the word though are generally meant to be insulting and solely intended as such. Though it didn’t become racial until the 20th century.
As for the Racial Bull crude and insulting language. Give a person the ability to hide and they will insult. Acknowledging it bugs you just fuels their sad, pathetic need to make up for their flaccidity due to morbid obesity and too much time in their mothers basements. Or the fact that they realized how much of a loser they are in life with their unloving marriage, over sized mortgage, poor financial planning and lack of ability. Or the were born with a silver spoon in their mouth and with they could be painted orange and sexually objectify their daughters.
It is best to ignore them you can have multiple chat windows. Close General. hide it away.

This can include stuffing your mouth with a sock, a fist, whatever.
Your last post and the somewhat-forgivable predecessor vitiate the most critical part of this whole discussion. The issue is we have looked away for too long, abrogating responsibility for our public interactions, handing it to the Authorities, and turning a blind eye to verbal violence. I’m part American Indian*, but looking white I’ve heard horrible things in my life. And I do not let them stand.
To the room, word to the wise: turning off chat means turning off communication with someone who could literally save your (in-game) life. I saw it happen last night, and even as a disinterested observer it was really pretty magical.
* As a rolled member of the Cherokee Nation, and a Son of The Revolution, my lineage calls us Indian. I pin American on it for online communications. I would suggest never calling someone American Indian or Native American without knowing their preference.

I think you guys in US (no offense, my mom its actually from Georgia and live in Houston now), give to much attention to this kind of issues, bullying, hate speech, pronouns… I mean some people are aholes some times, some people make inocent mistakes and some people just dont have any moral sensibility or historical understanding about certain subjects (without beign actual racists). There’s no issue, just humans beign humans. Talking and expressing should’nt be an ideoligical mindfild. And I think people should settle this kind of things privately, not publicly, just like in the old days… Like I said: someone push, you push back. End of story.

I think this is less of an issue of people being offended by everything and more of an issue of schadenfreude. Some people want to see others hurt when they know there can be no real life consequences for them personally. It is not a matter of politics, race or religion and all sides get offended and cause offending. However, there are the “special” cases that just want to see the world burn.
Thank you internet for allowing people to spew whatever toxic garbage they want and to allow them to shelter with whichever falsely idyllic group they deem to be “like themselves” without ever having to leave the bubble.

I pretty much have to agree with this.
Dude I went through life having ethnic slurs shot at me by Polish students because my Great Grandmother was from Prussia and I cheered for Germany during a world cup. I have been called Sparkles the *** Pirate, a word that gets filtered on the forums that normally means a person that packs boxes at a fudge factory, Elvira, and Devil Worshipper by managers at jobs. I have been called Dumbo, Bonk, Big Ears, Peewee, as well as the standard group of homophobic, racial and general insults. All because I was generally meek doesn’t matter that I’m a straight male.
This like that has an impact. Trust me. You don’t know who is on the other end. If you casually using racial, ethnic, sexist or homophobic slurs without meaning it, you have no idea what the person you are using them towards is going through, and you have to ask yourself why you use them in the first place?
Would you use these words in public where you could get punched in the face or called out by people much better than you when your daddy isn’t there to protect you? Or when you aren’t waiting on your mom to bring you a pizza pocket? if you aren’t willing to walk up to a black person in the middle of a black neighbourhood or go into a gay bar and use the same language you use online then you have to ask yourself… should you be using that language? and should you have done better at school or maybe learned to use your bathing suit area better so your spouse would actually be satisfied?
If words aren’t a problem for you then nothing in here should really bother you should it? Being a fat, flaccid, idiot that requires mommy to buy you new computer parts every 6 months because your mcjob can’t afford it and no girl wants to touch you really would have no bearing on you mood and you’d see no reason to be even slightly miffed at the suggestion.
If you are annoyed even slightly at being called a sad loser whose kids won’t ever respect him, whose co-workers make jokes about him at the social events that they don’t tell him about and even if you drove a nice car and had a nice home you’d still be looked down on by the person pumping your gas because the stink of pathetic desperation flows off you like stink lines in a peanuts cartoon, well then… perhaps you need to think how you communicate with others?
And if not… well you still need to think about how you communicate with others because as I mentioned you don’t know what the other person is going and words do impact peoples emotional state. Particularly in gaming where stresses makes us more easily impacted by outside stimulus. Which is why even the Dali Lama can throw a controller if they played Dark Souls long enough.
