Hello Exiles and happy Monday!

We have a new juicy Live Patch for you. Besides a whole lot of fixes we also have a few new, exciting mechanics and improvements go live today.

Important mentions are improvement to archery, a completely new weapon type, the katana and that we are releasing the audo-mod updater along with a few first, small RP mechanics in the form of a land claim announcement.

New weapon archetype: Katana

We have introduced a new weapon type to the game. An ancient type of curved sword from the remote land of Yamatai: the Katana.

Katanas are two-handed swords with an entirely new and unique moveset. Their damage sits comfortably between spears and hammers with an armor penetration equivalent to that of the greatswords.

Katanas sport a range of unique features:

  • The katana light attack combo is frontal set of attacks with a fair amount of forwards motion. The light attack finisher does damage equivalent to the heavy finisher of other weapons and applies bleed.
  • The first light attack comes out very fast.
  • Katanas do not have a heavy combo. Instead they can be charged with the Heavy Attack button in a special stance that leads into a very quick dash-attack. This dash-attack does more damage the longer the Heavy Button is held and is released by pressing the Light Attack button while in the special stance.
  • Katana dash-attack goes through targets, ignoring collision. It’s a powerful tool to escape tight situations, even when not fully charged.
  • Katana dash-attacks can be used as a wildcard replacement for any combo step. This means you can use it as an opener, a link or a finisher and combine it freely with any of the light attacks.

Bow improvements

Bows have gotten faster and more deadly! We recently added a selection of new advanced (and deadly) arrows and now we are happy to finally roll out a new feature set for the Bow.

  • The bow light attack combo is gone and has been replaced by a single fast shot with minimal after-shot recovery.
  • The heavy attack has been revamped and is now a charge-able aimed shot. Hold down Heavy Attack and then press Light Attack to shoot.
  • Holding down the Heavy Attack button increases the damage of the shot and if you hold it for long enough, the shot turns into a Power Shot with a flatter trajectory that is perfect for snipe shots!

Arrows

We’ve done a number of balance tweaks to arrows in order to increase the usability of specialty arrows and taper the power/cost ratio of some specific arrow types:

  • High tier arrows now do more damage. This affects Razor, Hardened Steel and Star Metal arrows.
  • Snake and Light Arrows now do minimal physical damage. Snake arrows poison damage remains unaffected.
  • Light Arrows are now much cheaper to make. They require no feathers anymore and a single craft makes a stack of 10 arrows.
  • Healing Arrows are now much cheaper to make. They require Water Orbs instead of Dragonpowder.
  • Gas Arrows are now more expensive to make. They now require a Gas Orb instead of Ichor.
  • All specialty arrows are now much five times lighter!

Locomotion animation improvements

We have improved all jumping animations, including new take-offs, falling and landing animations that depend on the length of the fall.

Throwing weapon improvements

Lots of improvements coming in for throwing weapons with an aim to establish them as a very strong Cripple and damage option for short and mid ranges.

  • All throwing weapons can now be recovered! If you hit another player or NPC with your axe or javelin, the weapon will end up in the target’s inventory. If you miss and hit a surface instead, the weapon will be pickup-able by interacting with it.
  • All throwing weapons will cripple regardless of the body part hit.
  • All throwing weapons do not aim compensate for distance to the target. This system was making throws unpredictable and we have decided to remove it. Throwing weapons will still aim at the center of the target if you are target locking, but they won’t compensate for other types of shots. This means that you can land your shots more reliable in situations where you’re prediction your target’s movement or throwing before your target shows out from behind cover/corners/battlements.
  • Throwing axes now stack to 10 and never break!
  • Throwing axe throws now recover faster!
  • Throwing axe throws can be used as a wildcard replacement for any combo step. If you’re wielding a throwing axe, you can simply throw instead of attacking without losing your combo count. This means you can do stuff like Light -> Light -> Throw -> Heavy Finisher. Enjoy!
  • Throwing axes have a new flight effect.

Land Claim Announcer

You will now get a popup on your screen when you enter the area of another player, informing you who owns the area and structures placed. You are able to toggle this feature on and off in the settings.

Admins have the choice to enable or disable this for their servers.
This feature is by default OFF on official PvP Servers.

  • Adjusted spawn timers for some of the rare T4 NPCs

  • Fixed a bug that allowed players to loot XX_Unarmed items from Thralls
  • Fixed a bug where the piglet’s and boar piglet’s health points where out of balance
  • Fixed a bug where harvesting piglets would provide Wild Boar Head and Tusks
  • Fixed a bug where NPCs could fall through rocks near Hunter’s View, near the Sinkhole, and Stormwatch.
  • Fixed a bug where The Barrow King couldn’t be shot in the head
  • Fixed a bug where NPCs in the Temple of Frost couldn’t damage the player when hiding between Black Ice nodes
  • Fixed a bug with Yog Priests using Yog Cleaver instead of a proper weapon
  • Fixed a bug where the Swamp King would not aggro on sight

  • Patched up holes and walls where players could get stuck such as inside the crocodile giant, wooden pillars in the Den, fall into cracks in the Volcano biome, certain locations in the Midnight Grove, and many more.
  • Barred places where players could reach an unplayable area in the Temple of Frost, the Archives, the King’s Niche, Bin-Yakin’s Seal, the Black Keep, and more.
  • Adjusted and fixed collision issues and texture gaps on structures, foliage, animals, and such.

animation

  • Fixed a bug where the tools harvesting animation would not loop when the player was holding down the Attack button
  • Fixed a bug where the Polite Clap animation would end too quickly.

audio

  • Fixed a bug with the same SFX being played upon arrows’ impact when hitting NPC and terrain
  • Fixed a bug where water could be heard in areas without water in Hanuman’s Grotto
  • Fixed a bug where rain SFX could be heard inside The Eye That Never Closes.
  • Fixed a bug with muffled SFX being heard from Blacksmith’s Bench.
  • Fixed a bug where the horn sound would loop during a Purge
  • Fixed a bug with crafting audio still being present even when away from a crafting station

Separate TestLive Product on Steam

We heard your input regarding the inconvenience with having to switch back and forth between the main game and our TestLive servers. To make it easier for you and because we really value your testing and feedback, we added a separate product for the TestLive server on Steam.

If you own Conan Exiles on Steam, you should now see a separate Product called “Conan Exiles - Testlive Client” in your library which gives you the option to install an additional instance of the game specifically for the TestLive servers. Please be aware that this will prompt you for a full additional installation.

We are aware that not everyone wants to install or has space for two full installations. For those of you who don’t want to play through the additional TestLive Client, you can still access the TestLive servers through our old method.

Ugh no memtion of falling througg floors or the fact i cant access certain feats in my listvwithout having to use a D Pad. Or the fact that eventhou i have learned a feat its not showing up in any of my crafting benches mostly has to do with the last weapon and armor mods.

Yes i “learned” them.

When are the improved carpenter’s bench and up-gradable all crafting stations, talked about in a stream and rendering/LOD fixes coming??? Also pets/thralls(mine are dumber than a box of hammers) rework???

Wow, really stoked to give these new weapon mechanics a go. Plus, a staggering amount of bugfixes!! Great improvements to Throwing weapons as well, which makes them really viable.

I’m excited to see how the game has changed with these buffs to ranged weapons. This sounds like a real game-changer, especially as far as defensive wall-thralls go.

Looking forwards to the future of this game! I want to see how far you’ll take it!

You broke my game. I cant build now because pushing Lt & Rt just kick & punch😔
One of the biggest draw was building.
Also,the new bunny hop,err,I mean jump…Seriously?? What was wrong with the Matrix over the top hands spread rad jump?? Nothing thats what. The rest like landing & whatnot seems fine,but I dont know about you but Ive never tucked my legs in & put my arms in a begging position to jump. I feel rediculas. The yesterday jump made me feel awesome & with my axe out want to jump more over rocks & things just for the cool factor. Now I feel like I should be hiding eggs for children🐇
And worse,I play as a chick because shes hot,not now. Now shes just dorky. Ever heard the phrase “If it aint broke dont fix it”…?..?..

But the building thing. When are you guys going to fix what you “fixed”?? Because until then I cant build.

Things I did like; The bow. Thank you. At the start I was a bit upset that archery was kinda blah,& Rangers & Sorceresses are my go to & since there was no magic…
So now I have a dedicated Ranger that even bone arrows are viable. I truly appreciate that🤗
Making the gas arrows harder to make(cant believe im saying this)was one of the best things you could do instead of nurfing. They are OP as Hel,so not being able to craft so many at a time(ichor is easy peasy to get)feels balanced,& again I thank you​:clap::+1:
The landing animation is pretty cool too. Seems different, but im old & senile so theres that. A few other things ill get to when my brain fully wakes up🤕
But please​:innocent: fix my building,its not only a big part of the game in general, but its pretty much all I do. I love the freedom your game gives where Fallout 4 seriously lacked without mods. Im trying to build stair on my moutain home & I fell 2x trying to work around not being able to turn the Legos :pensive::cry:

I want to add,I just talked to another player in my server & he’s having the same cant turn the Legos problem,so its not just me Funcom. I hope im being polite,im trying not to be perturbed, so please fix this ASAP . As he stated “…Yes,its making life difficult”.

That guy got back to me on a sort of TEMPORARY fix. Hint,hint😉Temp,please.
After pulling the Lego out,kick or punch then itll disappear back in your pockets. Bring it back out & it should now turn. It worked 2 outa 3x for me,so im gonna try to finish my moutain stairs & hope for a permanent solution :v:

This keeps happening to me too with the building. Also, not a fan of the new, ahem, “jump” animation, there was nothing wrong with it plus it made my Cimmerian look badass as hell when sprinting. Have you also noticed the constant hiccuping/freezing while trying to do just about anything. Dirtbag, you are right about the lot my friend, they broke it bad

The katana is available to everyone, no DLC needed (it’s under the bruiser tab). The DLC feats you currently see are in preparation for a future DLC and can safely be ignored at the moment :slight_smile:

I am level 60, but still can’t figure out how to make the katana. The recipe does not seam to show up in the blacksmith’s bench. Do I have to unlock it some how?

There seam to be a bit more lagging after this update, especially when I go into a fight with animals. Not enough to make the fighting impossible, but enough to make it a bit annoying.

Is the new jumping animation a bit slow? I feel a bit like a ballet dancer :sweat_smile::dancer:

Hello, playing XBOX single player offline. The game had been running much better since after the last fix from the Halloween event. After this update have been having screen freezing or lag when moving/running. Also having lag time with the environment loading. Not sure what changed with the placing of items, however when doing so the commands do not work as before, and keeps going to a fighting stance or kick, and then you can move or place items after a few tries. The NPC in the city of the Relic Hunters have doubles, NPC standing within each other so they have like 4-arms and 2-heads, see this on the NPC in front of where Conan is located. As well as animals, such as in the North Mammoths are triple stacked on top of each other. Elks are attached like Siamese twins.
Good to see the fixes have been worked on and like the improved storage space in some of the containers.
I would suggest removing the need to feed thralls/pets from the game as well. As I don’t have 2-3 hours to run around feeding everyone as well as my own character. The thrall pots are also a pain and junk up the camp/bases for me. I would prefer to just be able to focus on playing the game instead. As thralls don’t do much anyway and wont hold any weapons anymore and just stand there.
The game still crashes a lot and have lost my 1st game and was not recoverable. Had to start over with a new game. Most games seem to have a hard save available to go back to re-start from.

Have any of you at Funcom actually read any of the Conan stories? Or do you just make anything up and say it’s Hyborian? Katanas and Yamatai were NEVER a part

It’s a game, mate. It’s an abstraction of the lore to fit a fun, balanced game. If you want to play accurate to the cultures, you can join an RP server and restrict yourself to those practices. I know of RP servers who do enforce certain behaviors if your character is from a given culture.

Cimmerians, Aesir, etc. may not have kept thralls in any of the literature or film, but they were certainly capable of doing so if they had wanted to, or been forced to. Just as you are in-game. There’s no mechanic that forces you to play any way that you don’t want to. And if you look around at the NPC camps in-game, I don’t believe any of those cultures have slaves…

I’m fully aware and accept that it’s a game. I run my own RP Server, and it’s dedicated to the established lore. I accept that the Aesir had the capability, as do the Vanir, perhaps even more so than the Aesir…but that’s a moot point. I do NOT accept that the Cimmerians, (a fictional proto Celtic culture) had the capability. The Celts never wanted, needed or kept slaves as we know according to antiquity, so neither did the Cimmerians. Slaver races: Shemites, Hyrkanians, Kothic, Stygians, Ophirieans. They got that sort of right in Sepermeru

No worries, I think we’re on the same track, just arguing over semantics. What I mean is that a “true Cimmerian” wouldn’t take slaves, but I think that a born Cimmerian who lost their ways may take slaves. So I think it should be possible for a player (being an exile), but of course they should avoid it if they’re roleplaying a “true Cimmerian” with Cimmerian values.
